@ journey-on, you'd be surprised the JW's who own and carry guns... I know of 3 right now, one being an elder, who has a case of them.

Yes, I'll be looking forward to Mad Sweeney's as well as PublishingCult's! I agree, reputable guests on reputable talk shows...THAT is what the exJW community (and those wishing to join the ranks) needs! Not snake oil and bullshit. Sensationalism will only get you so far. It's like being on a game show and picking the "fabulous" prize behind curtain number one, only to realize it's a gift certificate to Master Bait and Tackle and it's been expired for a year...

Today's WT Study Stupidity About Df'ing
by metatron inin today's watchtower study, towards the end, you had one of those typical comments by a former df'ed witness expressing appreciation for being shunned.
these comments always remind me of a stalinist show trial in which the accused enthusiastically accepts being executed for the greater good (probably to save his family).. after this kind of nonsense is expressed, you will get a flurry of self righteous comments emphasizing how important it is to shun your disfellowshipped relatives, so that they can come back in the "truth".. oh, really?
do any of these people raising their hand realize that, if the "success" of disfellowshipping depends on your shunning, then the "repentant" person is "coming back in the truth" for the sake of their relatives -and not because of fearing jehovah !!!???.

A lot of good points... I really like the passage you used in Luke. I have always had a problem with the DFing policy. I have an aunt who has been DFed since I was very little, and even as an unbaptised JW child, I was not allowed to speak to her. My mom refused to speak to her own sister for any reason whatsoever. After my grandfather passed away, my aunt was angry about being shunned by my mom and another of her sisters. A lot of the other siblings are JW, so she felt it a lot from the family, but it never convinced her that she should get reinstated. Quite the contrary.
My brother was DFed for years and he got reinstated when my dad started studying. He's inactive and living the "worldly" life now. He just wanted to be able to have contact with family, I think. I won't DF or DA for that very reason.

I see Rick still won't fully admit where he was wrong... And holy sanctimonious post, Batman! No matter who Rick has on his shows from now on, I won't be listening for the simple fact that they are associating themselves with his sideshow. They may be great people and have something worthwhile to say, but unfortunately, the ringmaster and his nefarious deeds cannot go unnoticed by me and many others here.
As for being afraid of the WTBTS, no I am not...neither are many here. It's called PRIVACY and we all have a right to it. And many of us still have family who are in and are in situations where outing ourselves would be detrimental to us. Has nothing to do with being cowards. Hell, I'd tell you everything I thought of you right to your face! That's the type of person I am. You ask for it, I'm gonna give it to you.
OUTLAW, I absolutely love the pics . Very fitting lmao.

'Passion' star Jim Caviezel talks about Mel Gibson's troubles, and his own, at Orlando church
by whereami injim caviezel, doin it for jesus.
persecution complex much?.
actor jim caviezel, his voice sometimes cracking with emotion, spoke of being "rejected in my own industry," the problems of his friend mel gibson and his son's cancer in an appearance saturday night at first baptist church of orlando.. the star of "the passion of the christ," whom first baptist pastor david uth described as "more passionate about god" than anyone he's ever met, was in town to give witness to his faith, to urge others to share it and to sell a new all-star audio production of the bible that he has produced.. during a 20-minute talk, caviezel spoke of the troubles that have dogged gibson, his "passion" director, who has been labeled an anti-semite in addition to being caught on tape ranting and cursing out the mother of his youngest child.. .

Will you attend the Kingdom Hall for a funeral of parents who are still JW's? If not, do you tell them beforehand?
by ThomasCovenant ini was recently talking to an ex witness whose elderly parents, and in law parents, are still witnesses.. as shocking and incomprehensible as it may seem to both sets of parents, this ex witness believes that, just like every other human throughout human history, they are going to die.
now this ex witness has expressed to me that he won't ever step foot in a kingdom hall again.. he is in a dillemma as to what to do about their funerals.
he does not want to attend any service held at the kingdom hall as the service will be heavily controlled by the seven members of the governing body that reside in brooklyn and who don't know his parents at all.. he is quite willing to stand outside the hall, or attend the crematorium or gravesite or funeral home and also any wake that takes place afterwards as people are more free to express themselves in a less formal setting.

That outline made me sick...I couldn't read any more than the first couple of sentences after they quit talking about the deceased! That's horrible!! A few lines spent on the person, the rest a goddamned sales pitch! AAAAAH!

I had a huge crush on him before The Passion... Now, though...not so much. All this being cursed and persecuted mumbo jumbo just because he portrayed Jesus in a movie? Really? Lemme guess...it's SATAN! That horny little bastard lol

Abusive JW Mothers.
by Low-Key Lysmith inthinking back on some other posters' threads and experiences, combined with some things i've read on silent lambs, and adding in my own personal history, it would seem that there was/is a lot of maternal abuse going on in the jw community.. brizzzy talks about her hellishly abusive mother.. the_raisin also started a thread about her psycho mom.. my mother was an absolute diabolical tyrant.
i firmly believe that she got a sick thrill out of beating me bloody with a belt, or whatever object was at hand, from spatulas & wooden spoons to cast-iron frying pans.. it just makes me wonder if the wts's stance on women being powerless, second-class citizens has anything to do with their women lashing out violently?.
just a thought.

*sigh* I have spoken to my mother numerous times about this. She denies she ever "abused" us. My brother refuses to have anything to do with her and my dad because of the abuse we endured as children. She claims she only hit us with the belt "twice in your life". No. I'm sorry. If it was only twice, why do I remember it so vividly? Why did my brother and I hide all of the belts in the house while she was out?
I remember being slapped, hit with the belt, being dragged across the floor by my hair... It's ABUSE, plain and simple. There is NO other word for it. She refuses to admit that it was. Refuses to acknowledge that she was anything like her own mother (who was worse!). My grandmother was a horrible mother...but at least she admitted it before she died. She was abusive, both physically and mentally, calling my mom and her sister ugly, stupid, retarded, and telling them they'd never amount to anything because they were nothing. They were the only 2 out of all the kids that got this treatment. They were beaten simply because she felt like it.
My mother went after us in anger most of the time. My brother was a difficult child, but he was an angry child. And now he's an angry adult. And she still can't understand why he can't "let it go". Honestly, he did approach her about it a few years ago and explained why he is cold toward her. He was trying to make amends and make her understand. All she said was "Well, I'm sorry you feel that way, but you needed it".
Both she and her mother were JW's.

I plan to have a regular funeral service for my parents at a funeral home, whether they are cremated or buried. Of course, when one of them goes and the other is left, there will be extensive discussions about it, but I know they will probably want a funeral at a funeral home so that worldly family will come. If the local congregation wants to do something afterward at the KH, so be it... The main even though, the eulogy and anything anyone else wants to say about them, will be held beforehand. The KH service will be held at a different time (hopefully weeks later). I can't take a huge amount of time out of work and I will be living about 1800 miles away, so I really won't be able to be present for that. Usually, a KH service is held a couple of weeks after the death. That's how it's done around here, anyway.

...They must go through a lot of cucumbers in that house...
Side note: There was a Questions From Readers a little while ago that talked about roommates...how opposite sex roommates would be inappropriate, a worldy roommate would be inappropriate, etc...however, I don't think it even touched on same-sex gay roommates...
I bet the old codgers in Brooklyn are going to be shedding some Noo Light soon... Thing is, the way the world is now, they'd have to ask every single person who was in a roommate situation if they were homosexual! But, then again, they stick their nose into hetersexual couples' sex lives, so why would I think they wouldn't go this far?
