i threw out my old public talk outlines and notes!.
i spent ages, researching, and writing my talks to try and make them interesting.
so i was rather reluctant to get rid of them.. but today i need the folder they were in for a work project, so hey ho they had to go!!!.
Along the lines of chickpea's comment, I wonder if the mind control is so far-reaching that we inadvertenly block WTBTS literature out... like, it's there, but we don't actually SEE it and REALIZE it's there because we're so used to having it around for all those years? Almost like our minds camouflage it...it's part of the scenery...so we don't think twice until we actually start going through things and go "WTF?? I thought I got rid of all this shit??"
Just a thought...
goin to be some hot love baby this evening..
*giggle* Sorry NRFG...but at least you know you're in good company all by yourself
some brothers at my last kh just could not pronounce the surnames of other members of our congregation especially african and dutch surnames so they used their first name or an abbreviated version of their first name.. i was wondering why we weren't all called by our first names?
much more friendly.
the only time my surname is used outside the kh is by strangers or authority figures so why the use of surnames from the platform by people who would at all other times be using your first name?.
Yeah it's ridiculous. For the longest time after I got married, I was still Sister MaidenName... Then when they finally got used to calling me Sister MarriedName, I got divorced and went back to my maiden name lol. When I was a kid, my best friend's mom insisted that she and her brother call my mom Sister FirstName...they were doing it in public until my mom pulled their mom aside and said "Look, they can call me just by my first name...otherwise, it sounds like I'm a nun!!" Once we got to a certain age (I think for me it was after baptism), we stopped calling adults Brother or Sister and just referred to them by their first name. I don't know why...it just seemed weird to us to have to call someone Brother or Sister all the time.
My parents studied with a married couple and she never did take her husband's last name. The brothers REFUSED to call her by her last name when she commented! They insisted she be known as Sister Husband's-Last-Name and NOT Sister Legal-Last-Name! That would infuriate me beyond words and it's such a STUPID and FRIVILOUS thing to be concerned with. Her husband's last name is NOT her last name, so why should she have to be called that? It's like lying in a sense. I asked my dad and he said it comes down to her "being under his headship and not standing just on her own...it shows the congregation that she is submissive to him and not standing aside and going her own way". How asinine!!
goin to be some hot love baby this evening..
i dont know how many times i have thought i had purged my life.
of all the wts litter-ature, only to find that crap still taking up room.
in storage... .
I went through all my books and stuff and just chucked a large amount of it all. I always get a bit creeped out when I find something I forgot to trash... It's like it creeps in on it's own lol. Honestly, I think it's a testament to just how "involved" we all were...it literally took up every inch of space in our lives, physically and mentally.
if you are a professed atheist, i ask you the question: do you believe in aliens?
could not god be an alien?
how do you know that there is no alien life?
*Sigh* Belief in other beings besides ourselves that exist elsewhere in our universe is not contradictory to believing in the god of the bible. The god of the bible is supposedly this almighty spirit being who you can't physically see and see zero evidence of. Yet supposedly, he spoke to mankind for years...
A belief in other beings doesn't contradict Atheism because Atheism is a lack of belief in a deity, not a lack of belief in another race.. Meaning that a person can believe an alien race exists on some distant planet and that there is other life in our galaxy and maybe we ARE some sort of crazy cosmic experiment...that doesn't mean they are going to worship aliens. It doesn't mean they think that we humans were created AS HUMANS by another race, but maybe we started just like they did...as single-celled organisms on a rock in the blackness of space.
As an Atheist, I am always open to the possibility of "what if"...but without concrete proof that trancends personal experience and ventures into scientifically accurate and plausible, I will remain an Atheist. This has no bearing on whether I believe in aliens or not. The two ideas CAN coexist.
As for the pyramids, etc...well, you say that the bible "proves" humans built them. No, it doesn't. It's a story book full of inaccuracies. For every one truth, there are 10 untruths or discrepancies. What is viewed in the bible as miraculous happenings (such as the 10 Plagues) can be attributed to natural disasters miles away (like volcano eruptions, etc). These "miracles" were simply a primitive way for peoples to explain their world and what was going on around them, nothing more.
around here in fundiedubland, it was considered practice for political elections.
.
we were not allowed to do it at all.. i had to get a parental note stating i wasn't allowed to participate.. watchtower society: sucking the normal out of childhood since 1881.tm.
EmptyInside~ So,many things came up in school that caused me great stress as a Witness. In kindergarten,I couldn't handle the stress and threw up every other day.
Same here...only, I peed my pants instead of throwing up... All through Kindergarten and First Grade... A kindly elderly sister in the congregation who used to babysit me and my brother would come to the school with a clean pair of pants for me (leftover from her grandkids) and a dishtowel that she fashioned into a diaper/underwear... The abuse she ended up going through at the end of her life at the hands of her JW family makes me sick to this day. She was like a grandmother to me because my own JW grandmother was an abusive bitch who didn't care about me and my brother at all.
But,the only thing I wish I would have participated in was band. I just didn't think I could, because all the band concerts were either holiday themes or patriotic.
I did band throughout elementary, middle, and high school, as well as chorus... When the real holiday/patriotic songs would be played at the concerts, I'd stand or sit there with either my mouth closed (chorus), or my mouth closed and my instrument in my lap (band). But, during practice, I always played and sang the songs...so I'd feel a part of it all instead of like more of an outcast than I already was. My biggest regret is that I wasn't allowed to do Marching Band...extracurricular...even though in my Junior year, my mom let me join Drama Club after school...weird. Maybe cause it wasn't on a meeting night or something...
As for the class elections, no I was not allowed to participate. We started with them in Third Grade and I was firmly told by my mother that I was not to get involved at all...not even making the required posters for the art project. All through school whenever we had class elections, I was never allowed to participate.
hey all, i'm still embroiled in my ongoing debate w/a few jw's and now we're on this tangent where they are saying that jws are the most peaceful and law abiding people in comparison to other religious people.
i said that's not true, there's been many news articles that detail various crimes committed by jws.
i couldn't find anything right away when i did a google search, so can someone point me to some threads or links that contain recent and past articles of jw's in trouble w/the law or who have committed crimes?.
WOW Bangalore...that letter made me physically ill...

@ CoonDawg, I agree... Unfortunately, the media doesn't cover whether they were DF'ed or not... I know the one I posted was NOT...but that's hearsay and a JW would quickly give the "But you don't know FOR SURE" argument... Actually, I do know for sure because I saw him at an assembly right after he was released from prison and everyone was saying hi and he was smiling it up like he didn't do a damn thing wrong. But again...hearsay.
