Is I Later Than You Think?
YES!! I thought it was only 4:30pm, but it's 5:30!! I'm late starting dinner!!
well i can't be bothered printing this off and going to the kh parking lot tomorrow morning, so i did the next best thing.
an anonymous email to my jw contacts with this all by itself.... subject line: can't wait for the special talk tomorrow!.

come this july, i will have been out of the jw's for 20 years.
and it has been quite a long time since i've really spent any serious time studying up on jw news and doctrines although i do still read here occasionally.
but after today looks like i've got some work to do.. my first sergeant called me this morning asking for my help to fix his dad's truck as i'm an auto technician in my civilian job.
No it wasn't the 7th Day Adventists, but I attended a 7DA funeral once...and it sounded EERILY familiar!!

NCO, will do!!
i just read this in our local newspaper this morning and thought it is very interesting.
this law is aimed at door to door marketing by companies but i am wondering if this may end up including religious 'sales persons'.
the comments below the story are worth reading as jw's and religious callers are definitely who many people want stopped under this new law.. .
@ Hopscotch, then as far as I can see, they can easily skirt around this law by saying they aren't selling, there's no set price, and that if the homeowner is INCLINED to donate, they are willing to accept it.

Unfortunately...I already know the scripture that they JW's will use in their defense of going against this law. "We are not peddlers of the Word". In other words "We're not SELLING anything". They're considered a non-profit (and non-prophet) organization. Many don't even ask for the donation anymore.
If they were to re-write it to include all types of door-to-door activity, that would include things like church groups and the like. I kind of wish they'd do that around here. My only thing is that organizations such as Girl Scouts might be affected, but as far as I've seen they do more sales through family and their parents' coworkers than actual door-to-door sales.

Wonderful job!!
Just another voice chiming in about warning them that the JW's will call you an apostate and deny deny deny. Definitely counteract that before they talk to the JW's. If they already know what to expect, when it happens, they'll know you were telling the truth.
One more thing: My boyfriend (former Army) and I thank you for your service.
the more i'm reading and thinking about what i have previously learned it just opens a whold new can of worms.. my husband and i have been reading/comparing the nwt, diaglot, reference bible, etc.
and i saw where the society added words, changed meaning, even added an entire sentence without ().
i have seen where they have emphasized sayings in the watchtower that are not in the bible like "paradise earth".
Hi SC,
I'm so sorry that you have to go through this...yet, on the other hand, I'm so glad you're seeing things gradually for what they are!! This is such a difficult stage. You want it to be true...a part of you NEEDS it to be true...yet, somehow...it isn't. It's a mental and emotional limbo. "What else is there?" and you're faced with the daunting task of accepting that you have this one human life to live... How do you make it happy and worthwhile?
You mentioned that your life has been more of "going through the motions" and waiting for paradise... You can be proactive in stopping that cycle right now. At this time, do you enjoy your job? If not, look for one you do enjoy...or maybe a field you always thought was out of reach because it involved going to school and higher education. The possibilities are endless...limited only by your imagination.
One thing that I'm thoroughly looking forward to is sharing with my children the things I lost out on growing up. You're lucky in that your husband is waking up too. Mine didn't. And I ended up losing my children in the process of me leaving the JW's. They are currently being raised as JW's, and I hope that when they are older they will seek me out. I still find much joy in seeing their world as they present it to me, but it's sad that it's tainted by Watchtower dogma already. I have another child on the way and plan on making sure he or she has everything I missed out on. I guess what I'm saying is that you can find happiness just in seeing the world through your child's eyes. Your baby is still young enough to never ever know what it's like to be raised as a JW and miss out on things. Your child is a blank slate... That opportunity that you have now is incredible.
So many people wish they could change things, reinvent themselves, live a better life...but never do it because it can be uncomfortable. You have to face some uncomfortable truths, not only about the world around you, but about yourself. If you can take an honest look at things and be willing to change what needs changing, I guarantee you won't be sorry.
Your husband is right. Life isn't about a destination. As a JW, that's all it has been, hasn't it? It was all about going "home" to paradise. But real life is about the journey. It's about asking the questions you want to ask, finding answers (or not) and continuing to learn and enjoy it. Maybe you'll find another church or group that you enjoy and you'll make genuine friends. You never know unless you try. Until that point, why not find a hobby that you like and a group for it that just so happens to meet on meeting nights? You never know who you will meet.
The first thing I did when I decided I was really going to fade was take all of my JW friends off of my Facebook and make it private. The second thing I did was add all of my DF'ed family and friends and begin again with them. The funny thing is, if they are completely out, not just physically but mentally as well, they KNOW why you treated them the way you did. They'll just be happy to see you're waking up and will be willing to help and support you in any way they can. So don't worry about that. Your sister is your sister first and foremost. She understands why you shunned her. Get in touch with her and explain how you feel now...and apologize. It goes a long way in healing.
Lastly, I don't know if I welcomed you before, but in case I didn't, WELCOME. Please don't hesitate to vent, ask questions, ask for clarification, etc. So many people here are a wonderful resource of knowledge and experience.
My PM box is always open if you want to chat.
I've met people of many faiths/belief systems, and can honestly say that there are loonies in every one... Not as a whole, but individuals. I've encountered bible-beating Christians who yell that I'm going to hell for being an Atheist. I've had JW's say I'll die at Armageddon for not believing. I've encountered Atheists who are just as hateful and vehement about their stand as some fundemental Christians and JW's. I've been judged by many, no matter their belief, simply because I have none.
When it comes to taking care of others who are not their own, no I certainly don't think JW's hold a candle to, say, some Catholic/Baptist/Protestant/Methodist churches I've seen. But when it comes to being judgemental? There are jerks in every religion, every group, every walk of life. The JW's are no better or no worse in this area, even though they claim to be.
years ago my mom sold avon and i bought a necklace from her that had a bull head as the centerpiece.
(looks like the one above) i was first admonished by the overlords to not wear it because it was like walking around with a golden calf around my neck.
when i kept wearing it my mom was scolded for selling it to me and i was then scolded as well.
LOL @ zid...
It's the DEEEMUNZ!!!!!

LOL Low-Key Lysmith... My mom was the same way as that dubbie mom... Anything that remotely LOOKED "worldly" when it came to music was off limits. My brother had some AWESOME music...one day, she went through his room (he was 18), bagged up all of his tapes and CD's and dropped them off at a dumpster. When he and my (then worldly) dad went to go get them, they were gone. He's never forgiven her for that. He had so much awesome music. My brother is the one who introduced me to metal back in the days when it was new. Side note: As an adult, my mom almost shit herself when I walked into the house with my Disturbed Asylum t-shirt LOL... I mean, how evil do they make that character "the guy" look??
