Am I the only one that thinks Bruce Martin Chua looks more "fabulous" than Elton John? Just sayin.....

So awhile back I mentioned doing an 'Out of Your Comfort Zone' project for a class I'm taking. It's due on Monday, so I have no choice but to bite the bullet and deal with JW's this weekend. It figures that JW's are like Fred Flintstone when it comes to the Internet. I Googled high and low and cannot find out when these JW's meet at their Hall. I have a couple of questions:
Should I assume they're like most other religions and meet at 10 AM on Sunday?
Does anyone know how I can figure out when they meet? (I even tried calling the KH but there was no greeting on their answering machine.)
I got desperate and even called their "Assembly Hall" (which isn't too far away). That did have a recording that listed meeting dates and apparently there is an assembly this weekend. Would that be a better opportunity to interact with JW's in the wild, or would going to the KH be a more intimate setting? (Keep in mind I'm planning to spend no more than an hour on this project, so I wouldn't be hanging around that assembly all day.)
Thanks for any help you can provide! xD

Studying JWs?
by bazackward inso i read this board quite often, but i don't post a lot since i'm not a jw or ex-jw.
i recently had an idea that i thought could be a lot of fun, but i wanted to get some opinions on it.. i'm going to school for my mba and in my business ethics & social responsibility class, i am required to do an "out of your comfort zone" project.
i'll paste the rules for the project below.

@InterestedOne
No problem, yeah, I'm thinking I'll have no more than about an hour's patience for this project. hehe
BTW I enjoyed reading your study experience. Among other things, I had always wondered how long it would take them to start the hard sell.

Those are some great ideas! Maybe I'll read Blondie's WT post before I go. Who knows? Maybe some of her comments *will* be heard at the WT study. The only thing I'm concerned about with regard to going to a KH for my project is that I've read enough on this site that I doubt much of what I experience will be unexpected. Hopefully they'll surprise me, though!
@wyorobert
I'd say the chances of me becoming a JW is about the same as the Pope becoming a JW. I've seen how this religion has affected my family, I'm as non-religious as they come (IMO the Bible is a book written to fill in the gaps for people who can't stand not knowing the answer to everything in the universe), I think logically, I hate hypocritical authority figures that have no idea what they're talking about, and, above all, I've been reading this site for a couple years now.
My prof didn't say anything about anyone joining a religion, but he did explain why he put in the disclaimer about being safe. Apparently he once taught the course at the undergrad level and a girl went out at night to a homeless camp in a really bad part of Seattle. She made it back safely, but he decided to be proactive about the safety thing.

lol well I didn't plan on being as popular as the only girl at the frat party without a shirt. However, I have no intention of dressing up. They're getting jeans and a polo shirt and they're going to deal with it. Do they think jeans and a T-shirt is Satan's uniform?
Of course, if I do this project, I'll be sure to report back to you all.

I'm going to school for my MBA and in my Business Ethics & Social Responsibility class, I am required to do an "Out of Your Comfort Zone" project. I'll paste the rules for the project below. I was thinking it could be quite entertaining to experience the "love bomb" first-hand (trying not to laugh, of course) and kind of match what I've read on this site for the last year or so to some faces. I've only been to a KH twice in my life many years ago (both times were when my grandma was watching my brother and I while my non-JW parents were out of town). If I chose to go this route with my project, how would you all suggest I have fun with it?
Project Details:
Go to an event you that is out of your comfort zone. This could be a student group, an interest group at work, a church, etc. Do not put yourself in danger! Always be safe! The goal is to see what the world is like from another point of view. You are there to understand them. They are not there to understand you. Write up your experience in a 2 – 3 page paper (800 to 1200 words). What did you learn? How can the class material help you better understand your experience. How can you apply your learning to the workplace?

So some background -- I have two JW relatives. My grandma is something like 85 yrs old and has been a JW for most of her life. She pretty much believes everything from the WT and has dedicated her life to it. She is also probably the nicest person in the world. The other relative is my aunt, who is absolutely bat s--- crazy! (She met her now-reinstated elder husband in a mental hospital if that helps explain anything.) She is also probably the biggest attention whore on the planet ...and it's not hard to get attention when you're whacko. My grandma and aunt both go to different halls.
My aunt has been bugging her elders for awhile about my grandma because my mom, who grew up as a JW but was never baptised (phew!) and is "worldly" or whatever, takes care of my grandma -- including her medical care. (My aunt is under the impression that my mom is just waiting for my grandma to get a hang nail so she can rush out and get her three blood transfusions.) Each week my mom takes my grandma out to do her shopping, run errands, and takes her out to lunch where my grandma will have *one* beer. (After being a JW for 50-something years she probably needs a lot more than one beer!) So my aunt tells her elders that my grandma goes out drinking with her worldly daughter every week. She repeats this enough and finally a mini goon squad of two elders show up at my grandma's apartment.
Grandma answers the door finding these elders there and invites them in. The first thing one of them says is "Oh, I see we interrupted your gambling" because my grandma was playing solitaire on the computer. So the bottom line of the conversation is they tell my grandma that if she has time for gambling and drinking then she has more time for field service.
Fast forward to this past weekend and my grandma is out in "the service," falls, and smashes her head on the pavement. She wasn't seriously injured (she's a tough lady!), but what would they do for her if she was seriously hurt? Would they just be worried about whether or not she's going to have a blood transfusion, or would they actually be taking care of her medical bills or something like that? Would they even ask for financial help from the people at the hall? (Having been a JW for most of her life, my grandma doesn't exactly have any money.)

Is This Pretty Typical?
by bazackward inso some guy on youtube with user name "sweetmikser" posted a bunch of videos about the 2010 convention drama.
my grandma mentioned how much she loves the drama, so i thought i'd see what she was talking about.
wow!

bazackward
This is pretty funny because I was reluctant to post any comment in fear that I would get mobbed by emails offering free in-home bible studies and, instead, I get flamed. Do you think he'll be able to count the time it took him to compose that email for field service?
And lol Quandry, I had never thought of it that way. I suppose if I had to suffer through all of that, the drama would be the highlight for me, too! ...though I'd still want my money back.

So some guy on YouTube with user name "sweetmikser" posted a bunch of videos about the 2010 convention drama. My grandma mentioned how much she loves the drama, so I thought I'd see what she was talking about. Wow! There's Broadway, off-Broadway, community theater, school plays, and then this "drama" where it looks like they don't even let the "actors" even talk, they have to lipsync?! ...not to mention it's all about "first-century witnesses." Look, I was a history major -- there are no "first-century witnesses."
Anyways, so there were a bunch of comments saying how wonderful the drama was and how it is the best part of the convention blah blah blah, so I posted a comment that said: "Silly JW's, there were no first-century JW's ...and if that was the best part of the convention, I'd demand a refund!" Well the kind JW who posted the video replied with the following:
not sure what's wrong with you..... so the un-civil schmuck-turd arrogant sarcastic obnoxious uncool behavior will make me think you're in the right, I guess......
Oh no, blocked?! Anybody get the impression he likes adjectives a little too much?
anyway, there were the Lord's witnesses all through history.......since Abel. Not sure how you miss that. Just cuz the "Watchtower" wasn't around (duh) in the "first century", you whiny arrogant troll, does not mean that "Jehovah's witnesses" (the Lord's witnesses) in the general sense were not around. Oh, and by the way.......you're blocked (as you're obviously either a pagan Protestant, arrogant Atheist, or neurotic Apostate). -

Blood Card
by bazackward inplease forgive my ignorance, but what is contained in a "blood card?
" i am sure it has something to do with the whole not accepting blood policy.
apparently there are two names with contact numbers on it.
-
bazackward
Thanks for that information! Yeah I guess she got into trouble for putting my mom as the primary contact, but my grandma is very clear that she wants my mom to do whatever the elders want regarding blood. My aunt is a loyal JW (my grandma's only other child) but kind of "psychologically challenged" so my grandma did not want her to administer her living will -- hence my mom as the primary contact on the blood card.
At lunch, my grandma did mention that she told the elder she might have to keep a secret and not tell my JW aunt that she is no longer the primary contact on the blood card. Is "keeping a secret" something evil with JWs? (As a side note, I'm sure it was my aunt that sent "the brothers" to talk some sense into my grandma.)
