This video probably doesn't really go with the topic, but I thought it was a pretty good animation - and decent music, too...

by everchangingworld inafter leaving, i still couldn't wrap my head around evolution (after the years of seing "intelligent design" in everything around me).. there's a series of videos that give a good intro to evolution and critical thinking.

Minimus' Post Gave Me Courage To Finally Post My Questions, New Here
by toweragent ini have been "lurking" for about four years now.. it was an incredibly weird experience just to look at a site like jwn or freeminds.
he came off very loving.. so, i decided that i would talk to one of my elders about the things i read.
if any of you have time to read this, thank you.

Welcome to the board...
It's interesting that it was the loving atmosphere of your old congregation versus the cold atmosphere of your new congregation that prompted you to take another look at the religion, instead of being prompted by factual evidence.

How do you cope with being shunned?
by TimothyT inhi guys and gals.. i have not been a jw now for over 16 months and since then i have been ever so happy and free.
ive also used the time to become a better, more knowledgeable and more fulfilled person.
at that time i decided to study counselling skills and become a psychotherapist and it has taught me so much about the way i think and feel.

Hi, Tim!
I'm marking this thread so I can come back and read your OP more thoroughly - but I agree, you are the 'better person' for not having to hide anything about yourself that should be considered natural but is "demonized" by the Watchtower Society... [And by the three current middle-eastern holy books too, I might add...]

New Pattern regarding Science in the Awake
by konceptual99 inreading the first couple of awakes for 2013 i think there is a pattern developing.. they have the regular "could it have happened by chance" article on something amazing in nature but they are also interviewing a scientist who is also a witness.
this is a pretty interesting tack on a number of levels.. firstly it is sending out the implicit message that "look, this educated person accepts creation, the flood and every other account that is at odds with generally accepted science, so that should give you confidence that you are right as well".
secondly, as a magazine designed for public comsumption is suggests to non-witnesses that there are many well educated people who accept the bible.

I quit being an Atheist!
by cyberjesus ini think the term "atheist" was coined to accomodate a "theist" population to understand someone with an opposing viewpoint.. i find it interesting that for many... their life is arranged around their belief in their deity.. that was my case when i was one... .
i think that calling myself an atheist its accepting a defact stand of theism of the world and extends and validates at some degree tha myth.. i am an "atheist" as much as i am an "adarthvarthian".
i never call myself by the second... nor i have to negate the multitude of fantasies and myths that people choose or are trapped in believing... .

Looking After Widows and Orphans... and Spending One's "Riches"
by AGuest into the household of god, israel, and those who go with... may you all have peace!.
from time to time the issue of how to fulfill the "form of worship that is acceptable to god," mentioned by james in his letter, namely, looking after widows and orphans "in their tribulation"... comes up.
given the issue of tithing, the plethora of institutionalized charity choices, and the existence of ones in need, perhaps in our own households and families... but certainly in our towns, countries... and around the world... how does one fulfill this requirement?

Language and communication are useless if words are not used properly, within the framework of their universally-accepted definitions.
Some on-board want to re-define words to suit THEIR arguments, and then complain about "posts about words" when their mis-use of terms and lack of research is pointed out.

In fact, since we're on the subject of "dragons" and "seraphim", here are a FEW Byzantine illustrations of "seraphim".
The Byzantines may not have had "Jeheshua" whispering into THEIR ears, but at around 300 - 500 A.D., they were a LOT closer to the actual origins of Christianity than YOU...
So, here is how the BYZANTINE Christians represented "seraphim":

No snakes or dragons THERE...
Must be because THEY understood the CORRECT interpretation of the term "seraphim"....

"...but paganism, as the Latin root word paganus suggests: folks [usually from more rural areas] whose gods/deities are closely related to nature and the earth. ..." AGuest, page 5
And AGain you're basing your opinion on modern pseudo-information without doing the RESEARCH into the historical realities.
Just like your ABYSMAL mis-interpretation of the "seraphim" as "dragons".
The term "pagan" was an insult - and was NEVER used in the period of Imperial Rome to describe the various pre-Christian religions practiced in the Mediterranean area...
In fact, the early Christians came far closer to a common interpretation of the term "pagan" - country rube, ill-educated buffoon - than the many well-educated so-called HEATHEN philosophers of the time.

"...I realize that today the word "pagan" covers just about anything and anyone that isn't "christian," ..." AGuest, page #5
Wrong again.
Jeheshua must be on the toilet, eh? Not whispering the correct answers in your ear right now?
Christianity in ALL of its various forms - even, or more accurately, especially your version - is rife with paganism; pagan symbols and beliefs.
