Okay, back on topic...
I haven't read the book yet - but in skimming that link I provided, it appeared that the Book of Enoch was trying to encompas the entire Old Testament in one book.
It sorta made me dizzy.

some critics question the authenticity of daniel, assuming the position taken by a third-century heathen philosopher and enemy of christianity, porphyry, who contended that the book of daniel was forged by a palestinian jew of the time of antiochus epiphanes.

[sorry to tug this slightly off-topic... ]
"Thank god you posted this clarification before bedtime. Thank you, zid.
whoops! I already said aloha...."
Well, you could always start a "goodbye" thread and then we'd throw you a party - well, some of us, at any rate...
i showed my wife the new light, it did not go over good.
i started with all the publications and asked her three questions 1 who is the fds 2when did they start 3 when did they get appointed over "all the belongings"?
using the recent publications she said 1 the fds is 144000 2 they started in the 1st centry 3 they were over all belongings in 1919. then i showed her the annual meeting report on the jw.org and went over each point.
I have a suggestion...
There was a study - I think it may have been sponsored by Pew Forum [ http://religions.pewforum.org/ ] which indicated that the best way to get a Jehovah's Witness to leave the religion, is to get them to study the bible and JUST the bible, by itself...
If you're still in a position of "headship" in the family, perhaps you could re-think "family study night" and encourage her to read the bible along with you.
Then let the bible itself do the convincing...
[I need to mention - I'm an atheist. However, I think that a person who believes would be much more likely to listen to the actual bible, than numerous arguments...]
Zid
coming from aguest's thread where she showed us the article that describes a "brain drain" that has been occuring for centuries do to "mutations" i can't help but be a little fed up with how much negativity comes from the land of science.
sure, facts are facts and they do not set out to sound good or bad, but instead of identifying the problems of doom, like our brains are devolving, why not focus on the solutions to those problems?
where are the hopes and dreams that our culture so desperately holds onto which actually provides the drive to progress towards them.
In the long run, all species of life eventually become extinct.
In the short run, this probably WON'T happen within either your lifetime or the lifetime of your children.
If you spend too much time dreading what COULD happen, you'll waste your life living in fear.
At the risk of quoting something really corny, I agree with the "ghost rider"...
"You can't live in fear..."

there is a saying that goes .no man can for any considerable time wear one face to himself and another to the multitude, without getting bewildered as to which one is the true one...so do you find this to be true, when you have to wear a different face when you are among jws ..do you get tired of it all?.
Say, since this thread is directed to the attention of the "lurkers", let me add something here...
Please, please, PLEASE - if you've done the research, have come to the realization that you no longer want to be a "Jehovah's Witness, and you've just about reached the point where you think you're going to explode from all the internal or mental conflict...
Please DO NOT ANNOUNCE THIS to your still-believing wife, still-believing husband, still-believing children, still-believing parents, the elders - unless you want some SERIOUS counselling sessions that could lead to a judicial committee... And do NOT announce it to any so-called "cool" Jehovah's Witness friends that you may have, if you do not want an upleasant realization regarding the true value of Jehovah's Witness "friendships"...
Instead, use the "SEARCH" function on this website and look up terms and phrases like "fade"... "successful fade"... "quietly leaving"... "how to leave quietly"... "how I got my family out"...
And so on.
Trust me, it will save you a LOT of grief, later on!!!

Relax, Glander... It wasn't a SERIOUS rebuke!
I just wanted you to give the guy a little respect - this is a question that I've not seen on this board before, and I'm pretty sure I_love_Jeff would have appreciated fairly serious answers...
But you COULD go play on the "Wibble" thread...
are humans really getting dumber (may you all have peace)?
there have many positions on this for both sides.
saw an announcement on the news this morning and was intrigued: could it be true?
(I'm way back on page #2... Catching up...)
"Crabtree, a professor of pathology and developmental biology, suggested our intellectual peak came when humans were mostly nonverbal and were stressed out trying to think of ways to not get eaten by wild animals." Sizemik quoting Gerald Crabtree
"I also think the article debunks the notion that belief in God is what dumbs man down; rather, it seems to be saying that reliance on science is the culprit. What do you think?" . . . AGuest, OP
"I disagree. When you look at the possible time-frame covered (verbal communication in hominidae may be as old as 2.5M years), then this process has been going on much longer than the influence of science . . . ." Sizemik, page 2
Oddly enough, MANY animals have primitive forms of VERBAL communication - birds, whales, dolphins, to name a few - and there's no indication that developing primitive forms of language negatively affected THEIR brain sizes.

Glander!!
The OP poses a legitimate question...
i was a jw for a lot of years, like many of you.
i wanted to try an experiment and try out my jw apologist chops.
since we have such a hard time finding a jw apologist that can argue well, i thought i'd give it a whirl.
Well, Christ Alone, you could take this topic to PMs - "play" only with those willing to play...
Or start another thread with a clearly-stated title to the effect that you want to "play" or hone your skills and would anyone NOT interested in doing that, please post elsewhere?
Just a couple of suggestions...

Wow, I'm surprised no one has commented on this interesting subject...
I would guess that the Watchtower Society has found it useful to incorporate various prophecies from Daniel into their dogma.
I have never read the "Book of Enoch".
Here's a link to an online version of the "Book of Enoch", though:
