ok before i start i know my mum was um "special" and had some, well...... bizzare training ideas.. .
i was one of 7 kids, dad didnt help much coz he was sick, so my mum was left to run the 'ship' and she did it with an iron fist.. .
we were never late for a meeting we sat, parents and 2 kids in one row the other 5 in row in front.
Hi God Chick, sorry to hear about your upbringing, mine was nowhere near that bad.
Yeah, we went through a few wooden spoons, but my Mum had her strange answers to everything in relation to Jehovah’s view on matters. I regret that she took everything and I mean everything that was said from the platform as coming from Jehovah’s mouth. So many things were said that were obviously elder’s personal views o n matters, but no she took them as being Jehovah’s (still does) and we paid the consequence... (Dam lost my smurf collection)
Education/sports/clothes/hairstyles/movies/music.... the list goes on... “Jehovah doesn’t approve of that...” No. Some elder or his wife didn’t like something and we all had to fall in line...
Sorry, Saturday morning rant...

mrs mattieu went running out the doors with kids in tow (yes, i helped them get ready) in state of panic because tonights km part is all about showing respect for being taught by jehovah by being early to the meetings and how latecomers should be put before a judicial committee.
ok, made that last bit up.. i used to hate these parts on being late to the meetings as most would judge the late comers without fully understanding their work/family/health issues.. i dont have her km with me, but it mentioned that being late is something that should not be a regular occurrence and that we should be early to sit down and be ready to be taught by jehovah.. not sure if this article is particular to the australian km or being used worldwide, though will try and scan it through tomorrow.. mattieu...... .
.
TOH, true, the parts not that bad, the part about saving seats for kiddie families was quite practical though was always ignored when I used to go.
The k’hall that Mrs Mattieu goes to has “old school” attendants who like to embarrass late comers by seating them to the front. But it’s always articles like these that create a panic on the night to be there on time!
I will never forget one elders/ms meeting when the p/o more or less read out a roll call from the last months meetings reading out the names of the late comers, they needed gentle shepherding calls.... barf

i got this email:.
knocking update january 2010. www.knocking.org.
knocking subject needs second bloodless liver transplant.
Knocking back a glass of scotch right now, so mine isnt up for grabs.... Though do feel sorry for his situation. Mattieu
while you were a witness, did you ever play the what if game?
i would occasionally sit with my friends and wed bandy the ideas around...if we werent born in would we be interested if someone knocked at our door...would we want to go to college...would we be promiscuous.... it was interesting to hear the responses and i think about that now.
one thing i always knew was that if someone knocked at my door a) chances are i wouldnt answer and b) although i would be polite, i would not have any interest whatsoever.
Hi Poopsiecakes, I’m a born in who grew up wondering the same things. Though now I have left, I look back with a lot of “what if” moments.....................
Mattieu
hi all, its time i stopped lurking around here.
i've been posting at jws for just over a year, i know a few names here and it looks like there is lots of good banter going on.. i am a second generation, born-in who grew up in west-central scotland.
i pioneered in edinburgh and later married and settled in berwick just south of the border.
G'day Cofty, nice to read your account, look forward to hearing more.
Mattieu.
we use to joke around and use the line from danny deveto on romancing the stone where he is asking michael dougless when he is coming back, soon very soon as a way to make fun of the believers who would keep telling us on stage the end was soon very soon.
they started this after the 75 and 2000 failure.
what are they saying now?.
The buzz word used at this year’s district convention (in every 2 nd talk) was that the end is not close, “it’s imminent!”
So, you guessed it, at every lunch break all you can hear was the robots saying “I’ve never heard them use the word imminent before, we must be close!”
One of my self-righteous super spiritual facade family members was going into overdrive over the word imminent being used, and it means we are on the verge of the big A! She kept trying to give me the guilt lecture over being inactive and not going to meetings anymore “but Mattieu, the end is imminent!” That was until I mentioned to her if she really believed it, she would give up her material way of life and start pioneering immediately in view of the imminent events......
5 Months later and she is still not pioneering, though keeps using the word imminent and raving about how close to the end we are....
Mattieu.
this brought a tear to my eye:.
