hi, sherri.. i want to thank and commend you for your efforts in exposing the watchtower society for its history of deception, doctrinal flip-flops, and false prophesying about the end of the world.. i belong to a discussion board of mostly ex-jehovah's witnesses, and your revelations about the wts on the view have caused many to seek out our site.. one thing i'd like to ask, are you aware of the wt's past view that black people are inferior to others?.

Sylvia, nice job, indeed! I have no truck with anyone or any organization that has these kinds of prejudicial views. Did the WTS print any retractions to this? There was a recent news report ( http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/176485/1/Yikes-The-end-is-immenent ) that had a Black Witness talking about the 'imminence' of Armageddon. I guess they feel it is ok now for a Black man to represent them on national television. What changed their minds?

Maybe "The View" could have a segment on destructive cults or on different religions (including cults) and what their beliefs are. I'm sure they'd have to be treading some fine lines as they wouldn't want to get sued. It could make for some interesting, if not comical, television and could inform a lot of people who may not be aware.

everyone seems to just hate the wt.. i am very upset with the way ive been treated but i dont hate them.. they have given me huge self confidence after helping me out of depression, although i have a fab counsellor, so they cant get all the credit.

they have made me independent as well, (i think my ex-study conductor regrets that!

) i suddenly have a mind of my own and am not afraid to use it.. i owe them quite a lot they have really helped me through some bad times but they have created some bad times for me too.

In my opinion, they are not. The individual people who I associate with that call themselves Witnesses are multi-faceted human beings and do not make the policies of the WTS Organization. They also choose on a daily basis what policies they agree with and are going to follow and not follow.

I work for a company, let's call it ABC Ltd. I do NOT consider myself 'the company'. I am an employee. I don't always agree with my company's policies and I don't always follow what I'm told to do. If I feel I am being told to do something that doesn't sit well with me, I don't do it. I have told managers to their face that I will not do what they asked of me because it was not proper. One example was when my manager asked me to spy on one of my colleagues. I told him No. And I told him why. I'm still employed and after I explained myself, my manager knew I was correct. He also knew I could get him into trouble with Human Resources if I went to them about what he had requested. If I were a Witness, and that had been a WTS request I was denying, I would have been disfellowshipped. Luckily, I am not.

read the title.

I have. The question was not about gaining anything positive from being a witness or associating with witnesses, it was about the WTS. I do not automatically equate the two.

Anything that I have received that was positive from associating with Witnesses came from those individual people and anything positive related to God or Christ came from the Bible.

I wouldn't say I have received anything positive from them. Because they exist and have exacted an influence over my family, I have learned much.

My father received something positive from the WTS... but it had quite a large cost.

After he retired, my father decided to dedicate his life to 'Jehovah'. This was because he had no plan for what he was going to do in retirement and was having a lot of difficulty dealing with this enormous life-change. And his marriage was not working well. They found him at a vulnerable time.

The WTS gave him what was missing in his life. They replaced the working organization my father had left with one that had a similar form in terms of having goals, processes, and structure. They gave him something 'important' to do. They gave him an excuse to get away from my mother. These things may have saved his life back then. However, in the process of executing on the WTS's processes and goals, his family was destroyed.

What I have learned is that when you ignore your problems and don't deal with them, they just get bigger and uglier. My father used the WTS as a reason not to deal with the issues in his life. Couple this with their 'everyone is bad if they aren't a JW' , you have nice recipe for a holier-than-thou attitude. And this has destroyed much for him.

DV... I believe some individual JWs have figured this out but the Society as a whole.... well, even if they do or have figured it out, it's doubtful they will admit it. If they do, it means the whole fabric of their belief structure will start unravelling. But we can live in hope?
