DON'T pray for the victims of the Japanese earthquake/tsunami disaster.
by nicolaou init might make you feel better but praying will do them no good at all.
please, please consider donating to a legitimate disaster relief charity.

For non-believers: What evidence would it take for you to believe in 'god'?
by jay88 init all comes down to evidence (but funny how we tend not to accept the evidence that indicates that what be actually believe to be true might be wrong).. this is a statement made by nick in previous thread of his.. >>>>>>>>>>.
if the ot 'god' reappeared today, would that be evidence of 'god'?.

I seek Him, through His Son, though He is always there. I 'knock' and I keep 'knocking'. I practice quieting myself, in spirit, to listen for Him, to see Him... and I keep doing these things.
How can you possibly view this as anything other than deliberate self deception? Seek him? Belief first? Keep believing?

Out of all the religions in the world our family chose the Jehovah's Witnesses!
by RULES & REGULATIONS inaround 1970,two jehovah's witnesses knocked on my uncle's door and handed him a watchtower magazine.
he read it and started a bible study with the two witness brothers joined by his immediate family.
my uncle soon called my aunts, uncles, and my mom and dad.

PSac I think dan has stated before that he needs a literal A&E or he will have to throw the bible out. So he's gonna feel the same way about biologos that the Answers in Genesis peopled do - namely, they are just as bad as atheists, possibly worse since they are distorting the faith.

Our Circuit overseer thinks people will return to the WT because of what is happening.......
And he's right. Never underestimate the stupidity of scared people. It can only be combatted by their apathy. People flocked back to the KH's after 9-11, too. Then, once they got back to their routine of work and watching Maury, apathy set in and they fell back off the wagon. I'm sure those same geniuses will come plodding back to the KH now, too.

I hate these threads.
Evolution is a fact. It happens all around us every day.
However, it doesn't matter to me ONE BIT whether or not believers accept that fact or not. Believers could all trot about declaring that gravity is a myth, too, and it wouldn't make a bit of difference - SO LONG AS they keep their idiotic ideas to themselves and don't try to influence school curriculums so that they can spread their lies to the next generation.
Same thing here. Noone gives a shit if you "believe" in evolution, dan. If you want to watch these idiotic youtube mininformation disasters rather than actually doing a little studying on your own - more power to you. Embrace the myopia. But you started this thread to call out everyone who is actually comfortable with the realities of our world, so you rightly got smacked around a bit. Feel free to hold on to your delusions - just shut up about it.
Now I'm off to say 50 'Hail Dawkins' since apparently he is my lord.

The natural disasters have been happening forever. BUT the complications have not such as nuclear threats in Japan.
We didn't have automobile crashes in the first century, either.

Make ambiguous "prophecy".
"Guys, at some point, some time in the future - now, I'm not going to give a specific date, I'm just saying SOMEDAY - some bad things will happen. This will be the sign that more bad things are about to happen."
When quacks today pull that nonsense, we rightly call them on it. Yo, either give us a date and something specific or piss off.
But for some reason we can't apply this same critical lens to Biblical "prophecy". Shams by Charlatans. A bunch of morons who had no idea what they were talking about, and never got a damn thing right anyhow. And now more charlatans use their revered words to profit off of people's fear.

There is no secondary evidence that could possibly do the trick. Even if an amputee grew a limb back, at best this is a phenomena that we cannot explain yet - but is hardly evidence of any sort of deity.
Nope, all that will do it is personal revelation. Nothing else is sufficient.

Redemption, Salvation, Atonement? The fly in the ointment
by SweetBabyCheezits ini posted this paine quote in the middle of another thread but thought it deserved its own.
this principle eluded me before reading the age of reason.
it's such a simple, basic concept of justice and yet so many christians miss it (as i did) or ignore it.. .

Well hopefully we can have a conversation about the meaning without being greek scholars with a thesaurus.
I disagree that Paul in any way suggests that "enemy of God" is merely someone who is directly opposing him. A reading of Romans chapter 5 suggests that all mankind were enemies of God before the propitiation took place. As it states we are all saved from God's wrath through Jesus. This would hardly apply to people who are directly opposing Jesus.
