Lady Lee (Lee Marsh) could use help

she can't read this now because her computer has been broken for several days.

lee is not a complainer now would dare ask for help, but though she can even build computers, she has ancient equipment and if you know her, little funds.. bottom line: she needs a $500+ cpu box to get updated to the 21st century.

if you are interested in helping her (don't email her because she won't get it, and don't call her and embarrass her yet) but this girl needs a "working car" to get back on the road, if you know what i mean.. email me at [email protected].

Strange and heart-breaking manipulations and deceptions have been orchistrated on the internet - some of them taking years to accomplish. While I'm certainly not accusing anyone of anything - I'd hate to see that sort of thing become a possibility for a manipulative sort to accomplish here because exceptions can be made for people who stick around long enough.

I appreciate that sometimes mods/admins have to bend the rules - but respectable mods enforce those rules to themselves just as firmly they do to everyone else.

Authority without accountability - being 'above the law' - breeds corruption.

Did they apologize for falsely claiming "Millions now living will never die?" Or did they sweep it under the rug and repeat the sin?

Did the WT show any repentance for stumbling their flock with false teachings and hype regarding 1975? Did they actually appologize for any stumbling they might have done via what they printed about 1975 in the 1980's yearbook.. or did they blame the victims?

I think "Jehovah of Armies" is a strange name for a "god that personifies love" to take for himself.

And yet, his actions and attitude clearly reflects that of a bloodthirsty warlord.

Hmm, not seeing any pics, elderelite... Is it not letting you hotlink them?

EDIT: Nevermind, there they are. I was in Oahu last year for a wedding, but didn't really take many pictures - for once I wanted to put away the camera and just hang with my friends and have fun. My friend who got married there is big on photography though, and wants us to make another trip just for shooting.

I had a similar problem about an hour ago - it wouldn't let me log in on one PC, but I could on my other. I deleted my cookie for JWN and that fixed it.

Oh yeah, the auto-focus on my entry-level D40 is much quicker, and frankly just better than the Rebel's. The nikon is quick (nearly instant), silent, and gets it right immediately. The canon is slower (takes about twice as long), noisy, and glitchier - it'll focus near to far 2 or more times on occation before it gets it. Not sure what's up with that.

Still, the canon is the one in the bag, because I want 1080 video on-hand, 3x more mega-pixels, live preview, etc.

Some of the pictures I posted were on a Nikon D40 (the lake, berries, and ship) - It's a suprisingly good camera for what magazines labeled an 'entry level' dsl. I still find it pleasent to shoot with.

At the beginning of this month I bought a new camara - I went with the Canon Rebel T2i. I need the ability to shoot some high-quality video through a good set of lenses - there are places where my usual HD cam just doesn't perform well enough. I want to start building up a real kit, and eventually (when I have the money) go full-frame. I chose canon because I think it's a little ahead of the game tech-wise, and I like their lenses.

I also use circular polorizers, ND filters, time-lapse remotes.. etc. I always keep 3x the number of batteries and storage cards on me as I think I'll need - just because you never know. Don't want to be 6 miles out and see that battery light flashing.

I will say tho, I took a class a few months back to refresh myself and hone my skills more and half the class had Nikon, the other had Canon (8 students).

I would agree. Even as I've gotten used to my canon, changing settings on the nikon is just a little faster. Nikon lays out their user interfaces a little cleaner, I think. My rebel has buttons in akward places to reach.

Leolaia: You might try Amazon. Amazon offers some cards now without the packaging (they just come in a plastic bag with the plastic cover) at 1/3 the cost.

I try to always carry 3x what I think I'll need worth of storage and batteries.

Is your camera dSLR? Or point&shoot?

Personally, I always turn the EV to -0.5 myself. Noise can be easily removed in lightroom - but an overexposed area is information lost forever.

A question for all who posted photos, can you say if you photoshopped them or were they SOOC?

CuriousButterfly: I wouldn't say 'photoshopped' - in fact, none of the ones I posted above were taken into photoshop. (Photoshop is more what I'd use if I needed to remove something, like power lines, from a shot. Obvoiusly you can do level adjustments as well, I just prefer other tools.)

I use lightroom to tweek the exposure, white blance, color balance, etc. I consider the ability to immediately make digital adjustments like these, combined with RAW shooting modes, to be one of the prime advantages of digital SLRs. (And really every digital camera does it's own internal image optimization - white balance for example is not a mechanical adjustment. So at some level every shot has been adjusted. I just prefer to do the adjustments myself rather than relying on a camera preset.)

In my local photography meetup, there one guy with a 5D Mark II who insists on his shots being SOOC. It's just silly to me. The rest are of the 'use every available tool' sort.

In fact, I'd say that once you have a good camera - software should probably be the next investment. It'll present more potential to produce eye-catching photos than a new lens will.
