i intended to respond to globetrotter's ''atheist thread'' as i remember (way back) reading that the origin of jehovah (as i recall) was that in mythology he was one of two brothers.
anyway, i could not find where i obtained this information so i tried to google it....still no joy.. i did, however, find something of interest (but i've lost the ufo thread to respond to, lol) - a quote from ''reconciliation'' (1928) by jf rutherford :- ''the constellation of pleiades is the place of the eternal throne of god''.

can someone explain to me why a witness can't go and buy a lottery ticket for himself, but can keep a ticket they find on the ground or keep a ticket they receive as a gift from a worldly person.. that's the explaination the witnesses gave me when i joined many years ago.. if it's a sin to play lotto, why can they accept a ticket as a gift or keep one they could find?.

i have to be very careful not to leave any plastic bags anywhere around my apartment or my cat will try to eat it.
i'm always paying close attention to the plastic bags that i bring home from the store... they all go straight in to a covered trash can so that the cat can't get them.. now, for the last two days he has been puking all over the place and i can't find any plastic that he might have been eating off of... but i am finding the plastic in his puke... so i know thats what is going one.
I think my cat is a crack addict! :S

well if the Lotto represents gambling and chance, why should they permit someone to reap the benefits of having one with winning numbers, even if the person didn't actually purchase it? a lottery ticket is a concrete thing representing a big pile of money somewhere, created by millions of people gambling...
christmas trees represent christmas, jack o' lanterns represent halloween, and chocolate bunnies represent easter, and if someone put those things in your house you couldn't enjoy them and get away with it.
that's just like saying "you can't actually go out and solicit a blowjob, but if a hooker comes to your house and offers one, we'll just sorta look the other way..."

someone informed me today that in two months time there will be a "special announcement" to all congregations.
everyone must be present at the kingdom hall for it.
my elders already know what it is, but won't tell me.

Why do they have to wait 2 months to say what they could say today?
i think it goes beyond melodramatic - and is something sinister. i remember how i was when i was in, and any time anything like this happened (which was rare), everyone (myself included) would get all nervous and really start redoubling their efforts because you never know, they just might be announcing that armageddon was gonna hit that day... it gets people stirred up and even more clingy.
jon and i need a vacation.
we got married in vegas and that was the last time we got away from everything and had fun (3 1/2 years ago).
we live in orlando, so i suppose at any time we could do vacationy things, but i'm thinking i want to do something or go somewhere out-of-state or at least out-of-city.

the only wt publication i brutally destroyed was a brand new copy of the revalation book.
i was so frustrated with the religion that i ripped the goddam thing into a hundred pieces.
it was a great way to take my anger out on it.. years later when i was dating this one girl, she had a copy of that same stupid book.
i'm not sure... it was on a baptist website called "the rock of ages"...
