several threads on here about the excellent bbc r4 programme this week ('the report') focussing on rape and abuse in barry, south wales, jws.
fat pervert mark sewell later got 14 years and i hope he is enjoying every minute of it.. the courageous ladies who spoke on the programme were articulate, reasonable and made a tremendous impression.. the quote in the thread title made an impression on me, and i hope, on all listeners.. forget religious, theological, 'biblical' issues and cut to the basics.
a rape victim was asked to demonstrate - to demonstrate, ffs - to three unqualified (middle-aged at least, presumably) men just how far her legs were apart when she was raped.. i have rarely heard anything so outrageous, and i used to investigate rape and abuse in my profession.
The way these elders conduct themselves during these " investigations" is criminal in itself!
My 10 year old went through the most horrible experience being questioned by the elders after her abuse. It only added to our trauma and was nothing we expected when we allowed them in our home.

I really think all the recent media attention is really hurting the Org and they deserve every negative report they are getting.

i keep reading of some guy who is so upset at someone that he goes into a theater and shoots 20 people..
or a kid that is so mad that the other kids made fun of him that he goes to school and shoots a bunch of kids..
or some guy that was fired from his job and he goes back and shoots of bunch of his workers.
Sadly those that leave are most likely to act out on themselves. I think the years of being told anything negative we are feeling is because we aren't praying enough, studying enough or preaching enough stays with us longer then we think.
it has been a long looong time since i posted on here, but never ceased reading all the posts and keeping up on the changes that have been going on!
but it just seems that now i have a need to get something off my chest, and this is the one place that will most definitely understand the topic at hand.
i have been disfellowshipped for about 8yrs now, and have dealt with the 'consequences' of that decision: all my so-called friends in the org left and i was also abandoned by my own family.
You did really good! I'm so happy your family supported you and made it clear your parents are in the wrong, because they are.

It's a shame what we put our children through raising them in such a controlling religion.
This video brought back memories of my now 20 year old coming to me in tears when he was in kindergarten because his teacher asked him when his birthday was. He was so scared he would be disappointing Jehovah and of course us if he told her his birthday :(
I have sat down each of my kids a apologized for robbing them of a normal childhood. I hope they get to live it through own children someday.

I'm sorry about your son possum. I absolutely understand the strain this puts on the entire family mentally, emotionally and physically and how it never fully goes away. It's a shame the Org doesn't care about those of us that suffer as wounded sheep but instead take the side of the abusers through their horrible policies.
All we can do is warn as many as we can respectfully and lovingly while exploring our legal rights to try and force change in those policies.
We are not alone, by any means. My thoughts are with your family.

The wife seemed really interested and not at all shocked by what I had to say...makes me wonder if it was a JW that molested her as well? All I know is they both will be a little more careful with that precious little boy of theirs.
I asked her husband if he was an elder and he said no, so I told him to ask his elders if there is any molesters in the hall and see what they say. I hope he does. He seemed a little more surprised by what I was saying, so hopefully he'll do a little more research.
