Mandatory Reporters of Child Abuse
by Dissonant15 inall states in the us mandate health care workers and teachers to report suspected child abuse to law enforcement.
this year our commonwealth expanded the law to include clergy, and to include a mandatory two hour training on what to look for and how to report, required for all mandatory reporters.. my coworker at the hospital said she and her husband did the training together, because her husband volunteers in the sunday school at the church, they required him to take it too.
i asked several witnesses when this law came into effect if all the elders and ms are going to be taking the training and everyone looked at me like i was an alien and they had no idea what the heck i was talking about.

In the past they have used the clergy privilege in order to not report. I understand that hasn't been working for them anymore but that doesn't seem to stop them from trying. -

by Pubsinger inso we know that wt settled out of court for an undisclosed sum and that presumably there was a 'gagging order' attached to the settlement.. not having really thought about what a 'confidentiality clause' meant before, i assumed in the past that it meant that you weren't allowed to disclose the amount of the settlement or any details about it.
but from the total and absolute silence once the settlement was made, i can only assume that it is a total gagging order.. how can the courts allow such a restriction to be put on a victim?
protecting the abusers and allowing the institution to cover up the lengths they go to to avoid admitting their guilt?

Sorry, but you can't sweep anything under the rug that has already been exposed. Candace took this case to a jury and received a very large judgment and at the same time exposed the JW org for what it is.
She also gave countless survivors/victims the strength to make the call to lawyers who were glad to look into their complaints. Many of us are greatful for her courage and follow through.
The fact that she has accomplished so much and now wishes to end it, is in no way being paid off to sweep anything under the rug in my opinion. I think she just wants to move. I certainly can understand and repect that.

he hate`s the fact that they make a point of calling when they know he will be at work.

Depends.
If it's women or a couple with young kids I will open the door and share my experience. If it's elder looking men I tell them through the door I'm not interested.

There is no easy or right way to let your loved ones know you no longer drink the kool-aid, but it is necessary in order to break free and start living your new life.
You will probably go through a roller coaster of emotions but in the end you will be greatful for the freedom.
Hopefully your sister will come around to the fact that you no longer believe what she does. I have one sister that is wonderful and a mother and brother who are very wishy washy. Try to not take it personally, they are doing what they have been programmed to do.
Your doing what is the right thing for you.

A Paso Robles man who admitted to viewing and downloading child pornography for the past 30 years was sentenced Wednesday to six years in prison.
Steven Martin Lindhorst, 53, pleaded no contest the same day to two felonies — lewd act with a child under the age of 14 and possession of matter depicting a minor engaging in sexual conduct.
The case arose when Lindhorst's wife of 13 years caught him viewing sexually suggestive poses of girls aged 13 to 15 on his computer. She also found what appeared to be girl’s underwear in a drawer next to the computer.
While his computer was password protected, the wife took it to the Paso Robles police department. In an effort to prevent his wife from moving out, Lindhorst later confessed to his elders at the Jehovah's Witnesses Church, according to court records, telling them he was not turned on by adult women.
Lindhorst, who is no longer a member of the church, told police he had been viewing and downloading child pornography since 1986. The Paso Robles police said Lindhorst had thousands of photos and more than 200 videos on his computer that showed pubescent children engaging in sex acts.
Some of them appeared to be manufactured by Lindhorst, according to the police, and in one video he appeared to be molesting a young girl, according to a prosecution motion filed in court.
Lindhorst will be given credit for 238 days served.
Because of his conviction he will also be required to register as a sex offender the rest of his life under the state's Megan's Law.
