Finally posting and I'm FRUSTRATED!!!
by stephanie61092 inokay, i'm about to engage in a major word vomit.
just giving you fair warning as your time may be better spent somewhere else.. so, i'm sitting on my lunch break, bawling my eyes out, and writing on this forum to people i don't know yet probably have a great deal in common with but at the same time, used to scare the daylights out of me.
for years, i would come across this forum and 'lurk' awhile if you will, or see things on youtube.

Do JW get counseled for buying a home?
by thedepressedsoul ini was curious, i couldn't find much on it.
if anything, there are a few articles that give advice on how to properly buy a home, mortgage, good location etc... .
do you know if the elders can counsel on this matter or remove privileges over it?

In the glorious decade before 1975 there were hints and comments about not buying "so close to the end". Couched in terms of "Reports are heard of brothers selling their homes ... [to] pioneer ... Certainly this is a fine way to spend the short time remaining before the wicked world's end. - 1 John 2 v 17." (KM5/74 p.3)
Mind you some also mortgaged to the hilt thinking they wouldn't have to pay it back cuz armaggeddy was a'comin'! Ha!
But after the '75 debacle there were enough with their fingers burned to warn their kids. So no aggro round here about buying a property since then.

They won't outright tithe but the CO enforcer will bully the elders - after looking at the accounts - to "resolve" to raise their contributions.
CO "Well brothers what was the result of your "review" of donations this year hmmmmm?" I see you have $5000 bucks in the bank.
Elder 1 (wants a part on the assembly) I think we should raise it.
Elder 2 (wants a part on the assembly too) And me! They've (the flock) all got two cars and can afford a holiday so ...
Elders 3 to 6 (Nodding)
Elders 7 and 8 (Snore zzzzzzzzz)
And a resolution will be read raising the contributions.

Honeymoon over for the carts
by Deltawave inspeaking with inlaws i another congregation today who said exactly what is being said in our own hall.

If the complete juddering halt on building becomes "Move Ahead! Move Ahead (tm) to fleece the flock." Then the busy busy pioneers can get back to being tradespeople's assistants for free.
This equals even less ministry time on the carts and D2D which means the hours per baptism will rise to the 10,000 mark.
I cannot see any "crafty act" - other than "if your kid is unbaptised at ten he's birdfood!" by the magnificent seven that will change the fact they are peddling crap and more people will go online and check it out.

RANT ON
Is it coincidence baptisms fall as yet more pioneers and elders wives waste their time stood next to these trolleys? The pioneers used to call door to door and pick up on those "sighing and groaning" (barf) - the vulnerable defectives that show any interest in jw-ism nowadays.
People who pass these trolleys have got lives - they pass them going to work, the shops, while out and about. They aren't the natural fodder for jw recruitment - the sit at home mentally ill/can't work/drug users/depressed/unwell souls that "respond" to two pleasant concerned women showing an interest in them.
"Round my way" all the pioneers - especially elder and min. serve pioneers are off on "metropolitan" in a nearby large city. They neglect their groups and shepherding and teaching others in the ministry, sacrificing their flock on the alter of "hours" (and now "video showings") and "visible ministry."
Hours and hours and hours and hours and hours and hours and hours and ... stood there doing F - all only to run away when someone gives them a hard time. What an utter waste of time and energy and life.

JW Expressions We Hate
by Socrateswannabe ini was browsing through stuff on jw.org recently and ran across some expressions that really grate on my nerves: loyal love, loving-care, and loving-kindness, as in: "please exercise loving-kindness toward your servant.
" who talks like that?
they must be relics of the fred franz era.

@LUHE "Praise us with your valuable things" = "Give us your f**king money!"
Bwahahahahaha! Brilliant!
How about:
"adjustments" as in "we goofed up again and time has caught us out so we need to make an adjustment to our prior understanding"
"prepare our hearts" as in "we need to prepare our hearts for the next truckload of bullshit coming down the pike"
"jw.0rg" as in "the new Golden Calf"

The UK has this "unprepared" problem.
Anywhere south of Scotland and the North East of England and we hope the flood/snow/ice won't get us this year and so "chance it"!
If we live in the Midlands or south then nine years out of ten we get away with it. The other year we get really caught out and moan and whinge and blame the government.
This year it was reported that trains in the South East would be delayed because of "low-sun" dazzling drivers at commuting times! I mean - as if the Sun changes it's trajectory each winter! Infamously "leaves on the line" brought commuting around London to a standstill one autumn because the wet leaves stopped the locomotive's engines gripping the tracks!
As the German guest laments about the English in WW2 in the Fawlty Towers sitcom "However did they win?"

I was in one cong. as a child and up until my thirties.
I did not see this one man/woman in charge syndrome.
The original cong. servant before the elder arrangement was a very kindly unassuming but well organised man, his wife had been imprisoned as a pioneer for not joining up in the services in WW2 and their daughters even now in their 60's are really pleasant supportive elders wives (in the best possible way a jw can be) in their respective congs.
He worked for a living, owned a very modest home and was the nearest thing to a true Christian I ever met. If it wasn't for him I would have probably woken up and left around 1980 when everything jw-wise got harder and tougher. He taught me three scripture sermons at the age of 12 and was a genuinely good father and grandfather and he didn't make a fuss about beards and petty rules when other congs did.
He became the P.O. aged about 60 and carried on the same and of course the positions rotated for a few years.
The next P.O. was younger, 40's just as kind - a bit "look at me" and "big-headed" but he was reasonable and a solid decent hard working chap with a supportive wife and young family.
The next "permanent" PO was a younger again ex bethelite pioneer who had just been put on as a sub CO when his wife fell pregnant. This was a great leveller and again he was a kindly decent zealous chap with a supportive wife. Having young kids made him realise it wasn't easy in the real world and that helped his attitude enormously.
It was during his time I was appointed an elder on a large body of 15 or so. I did feel there was sometimes "a body within a body" but it wasn't two or three but about half a dozen older elders in their 40's through to 60's who perhaps got consulted and made decisions and got them rubber stamped by the rest of the body. But the rest of us would stand up to this when needed and they toed the line again.
But I heard horror stories within the circuit and often there were troublesome bodies of elders where there seems to be a little "Napoleon" at the helm and power struggles.
Queen Bee elders wives and their over-ruled elder husbands didn't seem to last long in our hall and they either moved away or resigned.
I sometimes wish my "home" cong was a bit more hard-nosed and unpleasant as I would have surely gone years ago!

Ex elders vs. Current elders
by dothemath inin our congregation there are now more ex-elders than current ones.
(probably very common).
what i notice most of all, is that the ones who were the best speakers (we actually had some good ones) are the ones who have all stepped down.. i'm of the opinion the better teachers recognize its all a joke, and can't be bothered to reach out again.. so the ones left who are taking the lead are the most boring ones available.

7 elders serving, 6 ex-es "round my way".
Of those ex-es (including me) I reckon (out the loop but there is a long history) the reasons are "probably". Some may have more than one "problem" hence adds up to more than six.
Woken up (me)
Crazy wife and drunkenness (1)
Nutjob (1 or 2)
Porn habit (1 or 2) - mind you I think one or two still serving might do this!
Long term sulk, may be awake too, not sure (1)
