Question about baptism around 1973- can anyone answer for me?
by Virgochik ini am hoping someone will take a look at this and be able to help me with my question.. i was baptized in 1973, you know, because i was a teenager and old enough to stand on my own when armageddon descended in 1975. .
perhaps elders, or any former elders especially, but anyone who was around then could help me with this question, because i honestly don't recall, and really need to know.. what were the baptismal questions the candidates responded to back then?
were we still asked if we repented of our sins, turned around, and were being baptized in the name of the father, the son and the holy spirit?.

Pre 85 it was the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit - don't know if it was different again in the early seventies. -

Give them an alternative that is appealing and rooted in common-sense. Ask them gentle questions. Offer alternative points of view.
E.g.
You to your 5 year old: "Tell me about Noah and the animals son?"
5yo: "Two by two ... built a big boat ... bad people ... etc."
You: "That's great! Then what happened?"
5yo: "Jehovah saved them because they loved him!"
You: "What about all the people and animals who didn't get in. What happened to them?"
5yo: "They all died because they didn't love Jehovah!"
You: "What they all drowned?!"
5yo: "Yes!"
You: "That sounds awful! I'd never kill anyone because they didn't love me. Perhaps some of it is just a story? Anyway, shall we go and get a McDonalds?"
Or ... once a month during summer ...
You to the whole family: "I'm going to the beach/lake/picnic on Sunday, who's coming with me?"
Family: "We've got the meeting."
You: "Well I'd love you to come to the beach - we can have fun together!"
Wife: "Our meetings are important."
You: "And so is family time so I'm going to the beach with the kids. If you want to take the baby to the meeting you can make other arrangements, I don't mind it's up to you."
Little bits here and there. Little and often, little and often.

My brother died last night
by LisaRose ini found out this morning that my brother died last night, he was also an ex jw, 73 years old and died of heart disease and kidney failure.
it was not totally unexpected, as he had been in poor health, but it's a blow, especially as i just lost another brother two years ago.
there were six of us, now only four.

Source tells me Windsor and one of the Slough congregations amalgamated or at least Windsor using Slough hall? And some cuts in Woking?
I'm not too familiar with the area and do not want to ask too many questions but anyone in the know?

Because he knows if he doesn't he's next and he's shitting bricks at the very thought!

Wow! It's there in print on page 3 - what to do if you are asked about 1975 - proof positive they know their date setting (and by implication we can infer their generation setting) is a huge weak spot.
Thank you Wifibandit!

The two paths of exJWs
by Simon init's easy to think of exjws as being a single amorphous group but the more i think about it, the more i believe that there are two distinct sub-groups and wonder if you agree.. there are those who believe and those who don't.
i know that seems obvious but let's break it down a bit more.
there are those who don't and never believed and some who are looking for a religion to match their beliefs.. i used to think this split would be between born-ins and converts but of course it's possible for born-ins to be believers although i suspect that many, like with other faiths, do so simply because they have never experienced anything else or made a conscious choice.

And some people ride bikes for fun, some rid to improve their health while others get very serious about what type of bike and even types of tyres, gears, weights of equipment and materials used in the bikes composition.
The rabid will argue that their bike is the only one to have. But it is unheard of for someone to persecute or kill another bike owner because of what they ride!
So "on yer bike" is fine by me!

Where does WT get their money?
by Dreamerdude ini assume they get most of it from cash donations and assets left in wills.
there may also be some income from invested assets.
i guess they get a lot of money from old jws who die childless or with only df'd kids.geographically i assume they get it mostly from a few countries that have many publishers and strong economies.

One source is old widows without kids. Sometimes even with kids.
Old widows whose unbelieving husbands left them a house and an income stream.
It either gets left to the congregation in which case the puppet elders (eventually) send it to "mother" or direct to the branch.
