Depressing isn't it?
Especially when you've been brought up in it - brought kids up in it yourself and/or married in it and none of them are on the same page as you.
i thought, ok the case in australia would open the eyes of the world about this dangerous cult.. well that passed without a ripple.
we talk about the un and the wt link, none jw's don't.
understand the significance.

As LUHE says: Are the records verifiable? If he was born early 20th century Indonesia he would have been registered under Dutch Colonial control and that would give a semblance of credence to any record he has.
But in 1870 the Dutch control was tenuous and only in coastal areas would their records be reliable.
Then there was Japanese occupation and the fight for independence in the late 1940's where things would have been more fluid and records lost.
If it was a woman and the age 120 or even 125 I might believe it possible but I reckon 110 - 115 tops. which makes me think he may have his father's or older relatives birth records.
i am of the opinion that the wt doctrine is influenced more by external factors that it is by internal ones.
one of the doctrines that has puzzled me for some time is the armageddon prediction of 1975. why would the wts make this prediction?
what was their real purpose?.
@Orphan Crow
Sorry. As other posters pointed out - when I posted "Mad Freddy" I did mean Fred Franz.
As in he was the chief architect of 1975 and all it's life-wrecking ripples.
ok so this week's wt study article is entitled "why must we keep on the watch?"..
it is filled with statements on the importance of "being watchful" for the beginning of the "great tribulation".
paragraph 2: “keep looking, keep awake, for you do not know when the appointed time is.”after that, jesus admonished them repeatedly: “keep on the watch.”.
Luke 21 v 8 anywhere in that article? No? Thought not.

Not just Mad Freddy's pet subject then?
He doesn't look much like a boxer.
besides being raised in the religion , why do people become jws?
.
Resurrection hope seemed to be a common theme among otherwise indomitable ladies - those that came in in the fifties and sixties. That and the 1975/generation malarkey kept them in and brought their husbands in and their children too.
I think the 1980's brought in the last of the "normal" cohesive families of Dad/Mum and kids. The quality dropped off until about the year 2000 and since then it's been the whack-a-doodles and "issues" types.
i’m sitting there in the kingdom hall just thinking how rich it is of the gbojw to preach about materialism when they have recently been evidenced to be using bro’s & sis’ contributions to the world wide work to travel business class!
just that thought alone was leading me to read scripture while they were all engaged in the wt “study”.. however, then it came to paragraph 17 and i blurted / choked a little.
the paragraph said that “we should not imitate the people of ‘the nations,’ who have no real faith in a loving heavenly father who cares for those who put the interests of his kingdom first in their life.”.
Amen to that Blues Brother!
does anybody remember some of the sensational demon stories jw's would tell back in the day?
i was a kid in the early 80's and i remember a few times hearing of people having real life encounters with demons.
for example, one sister claimed that before she became a jdub she would regularly talk to demons and they would even fix stuff like her washing machine!
@quincemyles
That's a bloody big word! I'm gonna have to try and use it more in conversation!
and why he doesn't go to the gym, jog or workout!
also no survivalist mentality is required.deciphering warship has posted a youtube of part of the speech given by the one and only, anthony morris the iii at last years imitate jesus convention.deciphering warship makes this comment.
governing body member anthony morris demonized preparing for this disaster by building such a bunker or (bomb shelter)going so far, as to warn even against stocking up food.
I'm sorry to say I think he really believes his own words.
Anyway a little thought ...
When the Big A hits he says - with a sweeping gesture - the anointed "whoosh" are gone!
So an earthly survivor stood there next to him won't know if AM3's lifeless corpse is the result of his being destroyed at Armageddy or his being taken up to rule with JC, Mad Freddy, Ted J. and others of the same overlapping generation that would "by no means pass away"?
