Hello everyone
by Lancashirelass ini just wanted to add my name to the many number of people who have awakened from the cult.
i have been lurking for probably 2 years now.
and i'm quite certain there are many more lurking and reading just like me.. i have to be honest and say that i most likely will not be contributing much to the discussion board.

A soft spot for Absalom? Why would David be condemned for that?
He wasn't condemned for having a "hard spot" for Bathsheba was he? Who suffered for that little episode? Her husband did and of course the baby that lingered to death for a week at the hands of Jehovah.

Need input: elders showed up at our door today
by de-opresso-liber inso as i announced last week, my wife and i started our fade and i sent in a letter to our body that i was stepping down and cited the arc as the reason and insisted that we not be bothered.
my wife told a few relatives in person that we weren't going to attend meetings any longer (immediate shunning occurred, the new videos must be effective) and that what we found with the arc shocked us etc etc.
i have an inside track on how this is all going down by an awake elder on the body, co told them to handle the matter quickly.

If you have an elder on the inside helping you then can't you ask him what their intention is?
Rest assured they are there to ask you the "Do you believe the GB are the FDS" question.
If cornered just lie if you don't want to be DFD just yet.
But why let them corner you?

Unofficial Year Texts
by sir82 injust got done watching the november broadcast.
for the umpteenth time this year, the message was clear: "shun your adult children, no matter how painful it is for you".. which got me thinking, the "real" message that the watchtower wants to impart to its adherents seems to be varying year over year.
if they were honest, their "year texts" would reflect that.. here is my compendium of what the true" year texts have been of late:.

Just think of all those "exemplary" brothers that worked on it and built it so that "we can get away from worldly venues" who will see Theocracy's decrease in action.
And that little group of circuit heavies, pioneers and wives who volunteer to maintain it and sit behind desks up there and make a note of the time spent doing it on their ministry reports. And the Hall Overseer who will be chucked out of his apartment and be told to go and be warm and well fed.
Tough. You'll have to go and stand next to a trolley cart instead.

Canada Bethel (Georgetown) to begin renovations early 2017
by Richard_I ina letter was just read at my midweek meeting that georgetown (canada bethel) will have renovations done on it beginning spring 2017. the letter asked for publishers who are electricians/plumbers/etc.
and in good standing to apply to help out.
those helping out will be considered "part-time commuters" and will only be at the property for about 3 days a week and must reside outside of bethel and pay for all their own expenses.

GB thought process.
Right remember how the Nazis made folk dig their own graves? Well, we need to empty Bethel and maybe sell it so let's fire everyone we can. Then when the place is almost empty we can renovate it so that it would make a good business HQ for a buyer by asking any of the old bethelites and the new bethelite wannabees to volunteer to commute on their own dime while giving up their secular work.
When the job is done we can send nearly all of them away and A) save loads of money B) have a nice new property worth loads of money C) sell it when we like!

The one oclock meeting
by Steel ini go to a hall (very rarely) with a single cong of about 60 people in a small city of maybe 10000. our board of elders is a bunch of childless weirdos or at least the ones that make an effort.. they recently changed the sunday meeting time from 10/12 to 1/ 3. a number of us are pissed off.
its makes to hard to drive to the city or go to a football game.. i just know the gestopo elders behind the change.
if your life isnt as miserable or pointless as theirs, they arent doing their job.

Bit of a bump. Well after missing two mid week meetings in a row I thought I would turn up for one yesterday.
Did a quick count. 38.
Yes 38 bums on seats from 75 publishers and none of us live more than 5 miles from the kingdom hall and the weather is mild.
The last mid week meeting showed 41 on the noticeboard and 53 for the one before that.
Grand theocracy ever decreasing!

How about prayers being used as a talk?
by NikL inanother thread on here made me think of it.. its a personal peeve of mine.. you bow your head in prayer and the brother says thinks like thank you for the lessons we learned today like bla bla bla and for that wonderful point about yadda yadda yadda.
jehovah we know that etc etc etc therefore we must...well you get the gist.and on and on it goes.
absolutely drives me mad..

As a "reaching out" eighteen year old in the late 1970's I occasionally ran the sound desk and I had an assistant to put the roving microphones away and make sure the record player needle was lifted on and off carefully so as to not scratch the kingdom songs record while I switched it off and switched on the speaker's microphone for the closing prayer.
We used to time the prayers (and place a non monetary bet with each other as to what the time would be - the closest got bought a pint of beer by the other at the pub afterwards) with the stop watch used for the student talks. The longest was 7 minutes 11 seconds.
I bet 5 minutes 5 seconds and my mate reckoned 5 minutes 20. He was closest and got bought the beer!
