How did you feel when you got baptized?
by Schnufti inback in 2005, i remember sitting in the stadium in the special rows with 42 others.
8000 people were looking at us - maybe even with a binocular - while listening to the speech.
my family and my friends among them, being all proud of me.. i don't remember being enthusiastic.

Went to the assembly..some.personal thoughts on it.
by integ ini've been as honest as i can on this forum throughout my time bouncing in and out..and been jumped on for saying anything positive about the "truth" or my experiences at the hall, but it's been a few years now since i have been attending meetings.
i go to the memorial for family reasons and went to the assembly today for the same reason...but one observation i have to make is most of us have all dealt with years of hearing how gawd awful "the world" is and how the only happiness is going to meetings and out in service.
now that is total bs.

Hi integ,
I don't think I've bumped into you on the forum before. Keep posting as your perspective is interesting. You seem to be in the "perfect" faded position with a family that is prepared to tolerate or even be content with the way you conduct yourself.
If you have no anger yet no belief in the BS then that is not a bad place to be.
A very balanced post.
Spare a thought for those actively shunned by their family - especially for those believing little different from you and harming no-one.
BTW - how many were baptised as compared with attendance?

I just don't have the lies to give...
by Captain Schmideo2 ina friend of mine (a jw) delivered a premature baby, and the outlook is grim.. she is posting updates on facebook, and where everyone else is offering prayers for them both, and how "jehovah loves them both very much", and i got...nothing.
nothing that would be comforting.
big man in the sky has zero to do with this, only medical science and chance will have any bearing on this.i wish i could lie convincingly to her and to myself and have something nice to say.

I can't take much credit.
About two months ago I googled "what to say to friend diagnosed with cancer" and similar to that came up somewhere. She seemed to appreciate the sentiment and so it seems appropriate.

Funny old world bulldogg - welcome by the way; I was just about getting baptised when you were born and wish I hadn't. I've been an auxiliary pioneer, MS, Elder for over 25 years and the JW religion left me frustrated, angry and saddened.
I'm coming through it now and finding spirituality without the charlatans in New York and their self-preserving mistakes, errors and deliberate lies.
Best wishes on your journey.

I was visiting (with a JW family member so I behaved - sort of) a different country last weekend and in a city by one of the Metro stations was a cart with literature in (a European language) and English.
The young couple had good understandable English and I introduced myself as a "brother" and asked if they were "having a successful day."
"Oh yes!" said the young brother.
I smilingly said "Oh, good! Have you started any bible studies?"
"No, no." He said a bit sheepishly. "No bible studies."
"So, how has it been successful?" I asked, all innocently.
"We place literature. Look."
And he showed me a little slip in a foreign language which looked like "video showings" "return visits" "placements" "bible studies" and such like.
There was a number 3 in one column and a number 1 in another and a 1 in yet another. It meant 3 placements of literature and 1 showing of a video and 1 RV. I asked if it was for their shift or for the whole day. "From 8 until now." I was informed.
It was about 3 pm and the spot had had pairs of witnesses on it from 8 in the morning and the 3 placements and the 1 showing an the RV weren't for the last 2 hour shift but for the whole day up until 3pm!
So there we were in dry weather in a busy square by cafes and restaurants and shops and bus stops and tram stops and a metro station in a busy metropolitan city with lots of tourists on a Saturday afternoon and they had placed three friggin' pieces of literature and had one video showing and one RV and that counted as a successful day!
Jesus wept, what a complete and utter waste of time - 7 hours and 4 pairs of witnesses for that. I could have done that in twenty minutes on my magazine route back in the day.

Well the fact they had a local needs on it is a sign it rattled their cage somewhat.
And if anyone seeing the ARC thought that O'Brien and Toole and co gave a great defense then I've got a bridge they can buy off me cash up front.
