so serena williams lost the us open final 6-2, 6-4 to naomi osaka, her japanese-american opponent.. williams received three code violations from the umpire, carlos ramos: .
1. a warning for illegal coaching (subsequently admitted by williams's coach).
2. a point penalty for smashing her racquet.
She will start losing more and more. She's certainly a powerhouse, but at 36 she will find the youngsters ten and fifteen years younger will just catch her up. Can't fight nature.
Now she can coolly and gracefully play for another couple of years raking in the lolly and the plaudits like Federer (just turned 37) might but getting beaten more and more, or she can have hissy fits and tantrums.
If the latter then she could just throw in the towel.
in today's wt study, 9th sept 2018, para 14. we learnt that jesus mother, mary, is one of the 144.000 anointed at penticost.
just another classic, we know more than what is contained in scripture..
I suppose it depends whether the "they" in this ...
(Acts 2:1) Now while the day of the Festival of Pentecost was in progress, they were all together at the same place. . .
Encompasses this ...
(Acts 1 v 13,14) 13 When they arrived, they went up into the upper room where they were staying. There were Peter as well as John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bar·tholʹo·mew and Matthew, James the son of Al·phaeʹus, and Simon the zealous one, and Judas the son of James. 14 With one purpose all of these were persisting in prayer, together with some women and Mary the mother of Jesus and with his brothers.
the following letter was read in the congregation today.
it's for all the congregations in india.
i have pasted it as it was.
“‘Zion’s Watch Tower’ has, we believe, JEHOVAH for its backer, and while this is the case it will never beg nor petition men for support. When He who says: ‘All the gold and silver of the mountains are mine,’ fails to provide necessary funds, we will understand it to be time to suspend the publication.” - Zion’s Watch Tower July 1879
Well they're getting closer to "suspending publication".
Just ten years ago it was two 32 page Watchtowers a month. Each printed in the tens of millions.
Now it will be one study copy for how many JW's? Plus a crappy one every so often for the "ministry."
i have a long time “friend” around my age, she and her husband are big sheeple who have been raised to practically worship elders and view their as police angels.
anyways, they recently arranged to have a meeting with the elders to ask for their blessing pretty much to go to a wedding of a relative of hers who is not in the best standing, (she just recently got baptized and her husband was recently reinstated) anyways, the elders told them of course that it was their choice, but warned them that every time they ask for the elders advice on something, it is recorded whether they heeded the advice or not and looked at for things such as ske school, which is a goal they have to do together.
and of course they advised them not to go so they didn’t, especially since they want to go to the ske school, and i guess they only accept people who let people have full control of their lives.
Addison - as an ex elder I believe that this was local speak for "we can't force you but you'd be wise to".
I remember a fuss made about a wedding where a pair of pioneers were intending to go and another pioneer made such a fuss that a conversation with elders was had and the phrase "you can go but you might have your privileges reviewed if it stumbles others" was used. (Elders on a power trip)
Other times - usually when Daddy power elder WANTS to go himself or his kid wants to go then nothing is done.

Xanthippe (You also have a PM)
SKE = School for Kingdom Evangelisers (mini Gilead)
NVM means "nevermind" and from the context I guess that Doubter/Bobby/Fisherman/Richard Oliver/TROLL posted even more hypocritical nonsense than normal and got called out on it OR he/she was disrespecting Addison's post.
december 2018 study article :.
honor “what god has yoked together”.
17 admittedly, there have been instances where an “unbelieving husband” seems to prove that he is not “agreeable to staying with her.” he might be extremely physically abusive, even to the point that she feels that her health or life is in danger.
The world (in the west) has really really changed in just the last ten years and the WT is lagging woefully behind.
But ... the GOOD news is that normal women in "the territory" and many "daughters" growing up in the halls will not be attracted to this sort of nonsense. In England, among the mainstream population, if a man raises a hand to his wife nowadays then his derriere will be reported to the police pronto.
In the 70's and 80's - in the general population - families would close ranks out of shame, some non jw wives would "put up with it" - but especially jw's.
Now it is so, so different.
In a congregation I am familiar with, out of 65 publishers there are three "separated" couples where one or both still go to meetings. One couple sit apart, another couple go to different halls, the third couple, one never attends and "listens in" while the resolute husband comes to every meeting. There is no suggestion of physical abuse, just that they can't stand each other, or one can't stand the other and so they live trapped by jw rules - but separate.
There are no teenage girls/women left. The last few (five in the last four years) reached about 17 to 18 and either "faded" or got announced as no longer an unbaptised publisher.
I hear four of these five youngsters are career oriented - going to college or University to get better educated. They have boyfriends. One went into the workplace at 16 and has taken night classes and "day-release" to qualify as an accountant.
The only women who come along now are the mental, desperate and lonely; the older ones are dying off.
the wtbts/"faithful slave" have been promising/warning bible students & jw's for over 100 years that the great tribulation of matthew 24 was imminent.
this fear-factor is also used annually to "motivate" inactive jw's into attending the memorial.. does the bible teach that the tribulations of matthew 24:21 & revelation 7:14 are one and the same?.
the great tribulation spoken of at revelation 7:14 cannot be the same one jesus spoke of at matthew 24:21 - for two reasons: .
The Fall Guy said ...
"Use the scriptures to readjust your thoughts & fears regarding the org's"impending" great tribulation"
Excellent advice!
I would amend it slightly to ...

a thought occurred to me about the perpetuation of jw abusive culture.. (i do not mean sexual abuse - i am referring to emotional, or behavioural abuses).
most jws are raised in the oppressive and abusive culture of jw life.
they have been raised with low self esteem.
Diogenesister ...
That was a very articulate and profound post!
that expression is a no-no now.
it is racist and hateful.
some people just need to get the monkey off their backs..
Being from the UK I've never heard it either.
The word comes up in the phrase "You cheeky little monkey!" which was/is used by parents countrywide to admonish rude children of both sexes (more usually a boy) and all colours of skin.
Oh and occasionally you might hear "grease-monkeys" referring to mechanics of low grade or dubious skill. It is usually used in the plural to refer to the lower grade of mechanics that might be found in (e.g) tyre replacement establishments.
E.g. "My car was fine until I let the grease-monkeys put new tyres on it!"
