You guys are really stretching it. Ask those here who were Bethelites. Sure the GB had apartments, Ray probably did also. That is not living in a mansion. You claim to speak the truth. Speak it then.

Door to Door Message? A DIVERSION! Where does the MONEY go??
by Terry inthe door to door work is a sham.. the central activity of the watchtower bible and tract society is not spreading their so-called "message" about the kingdom of jehovah established in the heavens in 1914.. that's a load of propaganda.. the door to door activity is feckless in producing converts.
in fact, it is an immense failure of mammoth proportions!.
but, it is a diversion.

Who invented marriage?
by doublelife ini made another thread that had nothing to do with this but other people's comments lead me to think about it so i made a new thread.
the comment was from magwitch about sex without marriage not being wrong and i agree.
i know that those who believe in the bible will say adam and eve were the first married couple but i no longer believe in the bible.

Human marriage is the human edition of what is found in many mammals where the male of the species picks and protects his females from other males. Ancient marriage was not monogamous for the men, but closer to what is found among many mammals; multiple female partners and one male partner. Human marriage is very much a part of the territorial male tendency.
It is monogamous marriage that has a religious basis not marriage itself.

Marriage was invented by men who wanted to keep their mate from mating with other men. It's that simple.

THE GOVERNING BODY'S STAKES AND OVENS STILL BURN HOT
by believingxjw inthis thread is dedicated to men and women like ed dunlap and his wife, ray and cynthia franz, the mill hill brothers and their wives, and so many others who because they dared to disagree with the governing body have been made to pay dearly.
the movie, elizabeth, with cate blanchett, opens with a horrific scene.
the presentation of two men and one women to be burned at the stake for daring to be protestants.

iknowall558,
You wrote: "Everyone on this board who has stood up and been true to themselves deserves a pat on the back and a standing ovation for their stance. It can take a lot of courage to do that especially when you are a part of the WTBS"
I agree!

This thread is dedicated to men and women like Ed Dunlap and his wife, Ray and Cynthia Franz, the Mill Hill brothers and their wives, and so many others who because they dared to disagree with the Governing Body have been made to pay dearly.
The movie, ELIZABETH, with Cate Blanchett, opens with a horrific scene. The presentation of two men and one women to be burned at the stake for daring to be Protestants. They did not agree with the Pope.
This was said at their burning:
"By order of their gracious Majesties, Queen Mary and King Philip, we are come to witness the burning of these Protestant heretics who have denied the authority of the one true Catholic church and of His Holiness the Pope. Let them burn for all eternity in the flames of hell."
Ironically, for all their dislike of "worldly" religions the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses likes to practice their own kind of "burning at the stake," they call their delicious form of watching flesh burn in order to save the sinner: disfellowshipping.
When JWs are presented for their trial and subsequent "burning at the stake," similar words as said in the movie could apply:
"By order of the elders, we are come to witness the burning disfellowshipping of these protesting heretic apostates who have denied the authority of the one true JW church and of their Holinesses the Governing Body. Let them burn for all eternity in the flames of hell."
All I can say is, if it walks like a tyrant and acts like a tyrant it is a tyrant!
When did Jesus teach that tyrants should be shepherds of his flock? Elders who disfellowship friends merely because they disagree with the Governing Body are guilty of "burning" their brothers not for Christ but for an authority who plays the "Pope" while claiming to be brothers of Christ. As Jesus said, the fruit identifies the tree. Rotten fruit comes from rotten trees not men who are brothers of Christ!
The Governing Body "burns" people for disagreeing with them just as the Catholic and Protestant Churches have done. They force fellow JWs into ovens to be burned simply for saying, "I don't think Jesus taught this..." The Governing Body's stakes and ovens, though, are ash free and therefore appear to be a kinder and gentler burning a, shall we say, bloodless killing. No smells of burning flesh, no smoke spewing out from Kingdom Hall chimneys. So quiet, so clean, so evil!
Well done, "God's deserved kindness upon you," Governing Body, hypocrites and liars are what you are.

Mill Hill Disfellowshippings
by BorgHater ina few months ago there was a thread about a couple of elders at the mill hill bethel being disfellowshipped because they disagreed with some wt doctrine (i can't recall exactly what it was) and that several other betheliteswere under 'investigation'.
i haven't heard anything since, does anyone know anything more about this?.

Paulapollos,
You first wrote: "We all know that the average Witness is materialistic and selfish – they are obsessed with going into a Paradise, where they get to pet lions, swim with dolphins, build giant houses..."
You later wrote: "I am very very selfish, inherently. I happen to think we all are, when it comes to the crunch. And my personal belief is that Romans 3 applies to religious people, as Paul intended it to - we are serving God, but because of rewards, stability, security - and I think that applies to JW's too."
I suppose, then, to consider the average Witness selfish and materialistic is not actually a singular fault on their part since you "happen to think we all are," but rather it is a human fault. As for hope in a reward...it is, as you know, also quite common to all of us. We all hope for some reward for our work whether that reward is monetary or emotional or moral; reward is just. Sure there are those who are liars and the most base of people within the Witness religion but that can also be said of all peoples in all religions and all cultures.
As for thinking they are the best religion that too is not all that unusual for a religion. Most do. Most Americans believe their country is the best. In fact, I heard a political debate recently where the participants claimed that Texas, their state, was absolutely the best state in the Union! Believing we are special is not just a Witness failing.
The Witnesses most certainly have faults, big ones, but none that are not common to all men.
I hope all the best for you and your family.

Cofty,
Paulapollos was describing the individual Witnesses not the teachings of the Organization. They are not always one and the same. There are many JWs who give their time and their lives to a cause not for material gain now or for material gain in the future. I believe in being fair and honest.

Where is God when the Haitians needed him?
by AK - Jeff inperhaps a hundred-thousand dead.
millions affected.. how many prayed in vain to stop the quaking, keep a loved one from dying, or for saftey?
all disregarded, all ignored.. he either doesn't care, is dead, or never was.

My goodness what whiners. Where was the Haitian government? Where was the U.S. government? Where were the South American governments? Where was the U.N.? Where were the international corporations? When Haiti was being raped and left to die long before the earthquake?
It's so much easier to blame God rather than ourselves. These people were eating clay recently to survive.
Nope the buck stops with God! What God? He doesn't exist remember?
