I spoke with a CO about a year ago, as we were entering the recession, about collectivising food and other supplies in the congregations to help each other out ala Acts, he just stared. The congregations use to bring food and clothing to the Halls for distribution. To many good things have been supplanted for the rigors of the ministry as they see it being done.

does anyone else work in the insurance industry, or are you involved in regulations or benefits plan design and administration?
if so, would you be interested in a discussion of the speech and perhaps healthcare reform's anticipated impact on their own profession?.
Good ideas are being floated in these discussions. Currently many insurance plans have caps and exclusions that go into effect just when you need them the most.
In my parents case they had Federal insurance since my father had been a federal employee. In the last year of both of their lives they maxed out the allowance for medical coverage. My father was moved from a general hospital and received good care at the Veterans hospital during the last few months of his life. He qualified for both programs. But what if they hadn't been federal employees. Tax paying citizens all of their working life and then when serious illness strikes not having the insurance to cover their needs would have been a disaster.
No one likes higher taxes but some of the 'cradle to grave' plans in Norway and other countries has its appeal and can cost less than private insurance premiums without the fear of having caps or running out of funds.

the recent "generation" explanation redo says that the generation means the anointed living now, and we can still have more anointed, therefore there is no limit on how long the generation can run.
this is an attempt to keep 1914 alive and healthy.. however, the wts still teaches that the great crowd began to be gathered in the 1930's (ex: rutherford had people stand and said "behold, the great multitude) since revelation defines the great crowd as coming out of the great tribulation, doesn't that create a life span problem?
what is going through the minds of even the youngest baptized 10 year old members of the great crowd in 1935 who are now in there 80's.. the other sheep of john 10 seems to fit a discription of gentiles.
The current teaching by the Society on "generation" is a recycling of a view Rutherford expressed back in 1927 while still a Bible Student Assoc..

The movie has some flaws, particularly the slow motion falling scenes in the passion walk,and I wouldn't let a child view it because of the violence, but it was an interesting retelling of the story.

CTR had a lot of funny ideas but rejecting the evils inherent in the trinity was a good move. Being raised a Presbyterian and steeped in Calvin's doctrines of a God who hurts people in the afterlife was damaging.

my wife is a jehovah's witness who is currently an unbaptized publisher hoping (as she stated as her goal) to become baptized.
needless to say, i am not and we go to different churches (hers is the kingdom hall and mine is a small community church).. anyway, this past sunday (september 7, 2009) one of the brothers gave a talk about how some people pick a church based on the fact that it seems to "feel good to them" rather than base it on whether or not they truly teach the bible.
The superstitious get more superstitious until it finally dawns on them to change.
