I was there. Questions were asked and homework assignments were given out and discussed at the following weeks meeting, by 66/67 this faded away.

Swedish government declines to give JW financial support
by InquiryMan inquite recently, watchtower in sweden applied for governmental financial support, as they are entitled to as a registered religious community.
however, the government declined to accept the application, stating that the reason was that the jws do not adhere to democratic values and standards and do not support mainstream values.. the witnesses are upset, because they feel discriminated against.
they state that the financial issue is not the real issue, but to be treated in a similar way as other religious communities.. they have appealed the decision and plan to send a report explaining the witnesses views in more detail.. the branch office chose the religious, pentecostal (assembly of god) newspaper "dagen" to make an interview.. here is the photo report of the article.. .

That is the irony. They are a non-player in helping and supporting any social or environmental causes or government led initiatives to help those in need unless forced to pay SS taxes and workmens compensation like they have in the USA for a few of their workers.
But the hand goes out to the public trough. They also applied to the United Way for funds....how much did they donate to the United Way (with our donations).

Is it disrespectful to call GOD by his name JEHOVAH?

calling our god the creator by his first name jehovah takes alot of nerve.
my 10 year oll son doesnt walk around calling me by my first name.

For the moment I was sidestepping the critical apparatus of the story being fiction or true or embellished, but that is a good discussion in itself.
How the story came to be known or recounted is a void. How would a playwrite or story teller write or create this event to tie down certain loose ends in the Messiah narrative. If a Jew wrote the story or an Asian or African wrote the story how would it change the details, which 'Jewish' things would be important and over looked. Like in the Talmud, is the devil a literary device or personification of evil. Taking for the moment that it happened would Jesus as a devout Jew quote a Hebrew, Greek or Aramaic text, or as many Christians believe Jesus pre-existed his appearance on earth was he quoting himself in Deuteronomy. If he is quoting himself would he paraphrase the text or be precise to the original.

Jehovah will "bring to ruin those ruining the earth"
by teel inrevelations 11:18. this was a stumbling block for me (shame on me eh).
when we were studying the revelations book, the elder took his time to elaborate on how wicked this world is, and went on and on about the ecological disasters our world is facing, and how those wicked people only care about the money while they destroy the earth.. now, although i live in a middle-road developing country (romania), the people here by no means are ecological friendly.
those wicked people who are destroying the earth, are not some special class of people isolated in their ivory tower with elaborate plans to harm any living, but it is us.

This community apparently kept writing up till the close of the 1st century when they disbanded. What it can show is the range of the religious Jewish community in the time of Jesus. Did any of these scrolls find their way into the Jewish communities in southern Judea, hard to say.
Sometimes you have to peel the onion a little in doing historical forensics, set an hypothesis and see if it holds water. When Jesus quotes the Torah in Matthew 4 did he speak in Aramaic, Greek, did he quote the Torah in comptemporary Hebrew of the day or in the dialect of say King David's day. I bring up the later because in the DSS the Tetragrammaton is written in the Hebrew characters from the time of King David but the main text is written in the Hebrew characters of the 1st century.
The Jews who were believing Jesus to be the Messiah in the 1st century show an interest in their Jewish roots and a certain interest in the indentifying markers of a Hebrew Messiah.
When revisions of history and historical figures are made it shows the editors know something of the original on which to build their newer version on.

As much as the NT may have or may not have been edited and filtered thru the early Church an observant and astute Jewish man comes thru in the Gospels, one who found his way into Sabbath gatherings. The early community that followed the Way were connected to their Jewish roots for many decades until events caused a more permanent rift.
The Dead Sea Scrolls show the use of the Tetragrammaton in the time of this good Jew.

by highdose init occured to me today that while all of you guys were noticing all the "new light"s and flip flops from the society, i didn't while i was in.
i've asked other dubs that i know and they are not aware of it either.
and i think i figured out a large part of why.

The Society missed a huge opportunity in expanding their message to tell their members to help out in the communities they live in.
They just are not engaged in the real needs of people and their surroundings. Loyalty and door to door service are very narrow themes to try and build a strong movement on.
