Furuli's New Books--Attempt to Refute COJonsson
by ros ini just heard that the norwegian watchtower apologist, rolf furuli, who esteems himself a biblical scholar of semetic languages, has completed the first of two volumes he plans to publish on the societys chronology, assyrian, babylonian, egyptian and persian chronology compared with the chronology of the bible.. title of this first volume is: persian chronology and the length of the babylonian exile of the jews.. i hear that although carl olof jonsson is not mentioned by name, or reference made to his book "gentile times reconsidered," it is nevertheless apparent that these volumes are an attempt to refute jonssons excellent study which has exposed the watchtowers 1914 date as total folly.. .
the book can be ordered now from furulis new personal website:.

Hi Alan,
: Weight of evidence is fine, but if all science was simply based on the weight of evidence of past theories than the earth would still be the center of the universe, the stars are still going around us aren't they?
This is a really bad example, IW. There never was any "weight of evidence", scientifically speaking, for the earth being the center of the universe. There never was any scientific evidence at all. The only reason people thought that was because of mythical notions handed down in hoary theological works like the Bible.
Sorry, you are wrong about that. The ancients observed the sky and saw sun, moon and stars crossing above them, this observation led to their assumption that the stars revolved around the earth. The Greek Astronomer Eudoxus, 408-355 B.C., thought the earth was at the center of a sphere within which the stars rotated.
Observation is still a well known and accepted tool of scientific discovery.
"Only reason" is patently wrong.
Also, I must disagree on your claim as to what the parameters of our discussion were. Like taffy you stretch all things to make them fit your argument. Good work, but flawed.

Just because the government can't do anything legally to stop JWs from preaching door-to-door, individuals do have the right to choose whether they want JWs coming to their doors.
You are correct.

If you cannot accept that the universe came into existence "by itself" then how can you so easily dismiss that God did not need a designer? The same God that is even more complex and wonderful than the universe?
Do you believe in infinity? Can you describe it? Where does it begin?

JWs are not the only religion to go door to door. There is a community church in my area that has a regular program of speaking door to door and leaving pamphlets. There also are local ministers, from various churches, that have gone door to door inviting people to their services.
The problem with permits is that permits are governmental controls, governmental controls on religion should only be used for serious infractions of the law not to muzzle unpopular religions. The guarantee of religious freedom is for the unpopular religions, the popular ones need no protection.

WHERE ARE the Dunlaps or Ray Franzes or Cabeens of TODAY? Where are the men of conscience?
I suspect they are in the same place today where those men were 25 years ago. Living with the blood doctrine, the alternative service doctrine, the shunning policy etc. They followed, hoping for change;so do others there today.

Hi Bradley,
So, IW, my loss of faith was like a double helix -- intertwined and dependent on the other. Hope that answers your question.
Very well put!
Thank you.
