The parading of prisoners is against the Geneva convention but it was always going to happen. I also have no doubt that the prisoners will be abused....they were last time in the previous gulf war. British pilots suffered regular beatings, broken legs/nose etc. Nothing happened last time to the Iraqis.
Its no threat to say they will be done for war crimes. That will have no effect on saddam!

well, obviously not in any outright confrontation.
iraq has no chance of waging any effective war without wmd.
Its been a bad day for the coalition.A soldier tries to frag his commander, Tornado gets downed. 5 US captured. The Iraqis are not lying down. It will only get worse as the coalition near Baghdad. It will take a long time to take if it does. I think the coalition have given up on the idea of riding into Basra to the acclaim of the locals. They seem to have changed tack by saying they won't take it and will proceed to Baghdad.
The coalition run the risk of uniting the country against the US etc. The last thing you need is women looking to take on the coalition, suicide bombers etc ala Palestine. I think that's how it will end up. The bombing of civilian areas in Basra, turned a lot of folks off the coalition and added to Saddam's recruitment drive.
If this whole thing is not done in a matter of weeks....it will bounce back and bite.

But with the supply lines being long........going further in terms of distance.....they cannot be protected all the way. They will be sitting ducks.

the british forces are under double pressure as they not only have to be aware of attacks from the iraqi's but they have to keep one eye on their american friends.. during the last gulf war, the americans inflicted more casualties on the coalition forces than the iraqi's did.. friendly fire seems to be limited to the americans.
you never hear of the royal marines accidentally shooting up a car of journalists or blowing an american plane out of the sky.... but, what am i saying, the americans have a president that has attacked another nation without just cause... so thats where they get it from.. watch out boys!...the americans are about.

The destruction of the Tornado was caught on film. It was a night of panic and paranoia as a soldier had already attempted to take out the command structure there! From what I could see of the film, I could hear helicopters and I guess there was all sorts of stuff in the air. they seem to have thought they were under attack from a scud. I would not be happy with the situation to say the least. I would like to think the crew would have had some time to eject etc. but it seems not.
Friendly fire business is bad but the whole thing is bad.

I think the reason why Iraq has paraded the soldiers was because at the time there were denials by all concerned that the US had lost troops. At the time, the video was being talked about I recall seeing on Fox that there was skepticism. The POWs were probably interviewed to show they were REAL US prisoners and not propaganda. After the program, it was accepted that the Iraqis had captured some US troops.
The prisoners will no doubt be mistreated. They were in the last Gulf war. But I can see the whole thing degenerating anyway. As soon as Iraqi forces start conducting a guerilla war, the civilian death count will rise.
With such long supply lines, the coalition can expect more hit and run missions with the attendant loss of life and capture.

I'm sure the video won't be shown on the usual networks. There has been criticism of Al-Jazeera for showing it in the first place. The whole thing is gross. I have to say that on the same program there was graphic shots of civilian dead from Basra. There was a camera-man who was going round the hospital filming the dead and dying. Obviously no censorship.

I've just seen the Al-Jazeera footage. Its truly shocking. There were about 6-7 US soldiers. They had been partly undressed. Most had shots to the head. One Iraqi guy in a blue shirt was grinning from ear to ear trying to move some of the dead to get a better camera shot of the wounds.
They was also some interviews with some very scared captives. One was a black lady who was close to tears.
Its the worst nightmare for the coalition forces.
