beer is good for your health if you take it moderately.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Soul singer Barry White, whose rich bass crooning stirred romance in the hearts of a generation of fans, has died at the age of 58, his manager Ned Shankman says.
Shankman told reporters White, a two-time Grammy winner, died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in Los Angeles where he had been battling kidney failure brought on by high blood pressure. He suffered a stroke in May.
Born in Galveston, Texas, White had been hoping to regain enough strength to undergo a kidney transplant, his daughter Shaheara White said in May.
With smoky ballads like "Can't Get Enough of Your Love" and "You're the First, The Last, My Everything," White provided the soundtrack to countless candlelight dinners and late-night trysts.
He also found success as a composer, a conductor of instrumental recordings and as the producer of the female vocal trio Love Unlimited.
"The Doctor of Love" achieved pop icon status as a romantic mentor in the hit TV series "Ally McBeal" and on the animated TV series "The Simpsons."
He reached the peak of his popularity in the mid-1970s, but won two Grammys in 2000 for best male and traditional R&B vocal performance for the song "Staying Power."
White's was the classic rags-to-riches tale -- raised in the Los Angeles suburb of Watts, he was exposed to gang violence on a daily basis. He burgled homes, stole cars, drank and fought. He became a father twice while still in his teens.
While serving a five-month jail stint in 1960 for stealing tires, he heard an Elvis Presley song that changed his life. He took the words of "It's Now or Never" to heart, and decided he had to change his life.

Prison For Spitting On Cop 7-4-3- OKLAHOMA CITY (Reuters) -- An Oklahoma man arrested on suspicion of beating his wife faced year in prison and a fine. But when he spit in an arresting officer's face, he got a life sentence instead, officials said Wednesday.
- John Carl Marquez, 36, was convicted of "placing bodily fluid upon a government employee," a felony that can carry a life sentence because of the possibility of transmitting a potentially deadly disease.
- State judge April Sellers White sentenced Marquez this week even though Marquez and the officer tested negative for any communicable disease.
- Marquez also was convicted of assaulting a police officer, and a jury recommended the maximum sentence because he had previous convictions.
- Marquez, arrested several months ago, could have received one year in prison and a $3,000 fine for wife beating, according to the Creek County court clerk's office.
- His lawyers said they plan to appeal.

Cassiline, I think those who foster can be from a variety of backgrounds, religious and otherwise. Fundamentalist religion is always going to be a problem. I dont know too many that would let their kids die, though, like JWs.
IMO, you could do without the JWs who are guaranteed to screw up the already mixed up kids even further, don't you think?

I feel that questioning the fitness of a JW as a foster parent (based on their religious? cultic? beliefs) can call into question their fitness as a parent--of their biological children too.
The issues of JW upbringing was one of the reasons why I left. I did not want to bring my kids in the JW mindset. The problem with JWs is that they do not bring their kids up with a balanced, wholesome view of life, people and society. I have known of 3 people that have killed themselves because of their JW life. I wouldn't recommend the JW life and do not think that vulnerable children need the added burden of being brought up into a destructive cult.
In the case of JW kids born to the family, they should stay with their parents unless it can be shown that they are in danger.

Hi John, I think the £10 is a standard charge. It covers the photocopying and admin expense of the whole thing. If you want to get your records from your GP, you will pay a similar amount. Its not excessive. I would pay and see what they have on you!!

nilfun, we are talking about fostering here. These kids come from difficult backgrounds, family breakdown, abuse etc. You would expect that the parents need to be able to understand and relate to these ones. I don't think exposing already vulnerable kids to the dangers of a destructive cult do much good. Its not just the blood issue, its the whole WTS scene with its view of society in general.
Since the teachings of JWs are so harmful, should JW kids be removed from their homes?
Well they have become wards of court on occasion and would be removed in cases of abuse etc.

The deceased was an adult, but he was influenced to give his life up for nothing by his JW indoctrination. Although it was said it was his own decision, we all know what that means don't we? He would have been DF'd - disowned by his foster parents if he had gone against the WTS dogma. Did he have any real choice?
I would not allow dubs to adopt. Their teachings can kill.
