  To my way of thinking, a Christian is a "follower of Christ". Jehovah's Witnesses are "followers of Jehovah".

  That is a very valid point.

  I think that in terms of creeds, thet are CHristian in the since I showed above BUT in practise, that is harder to accept.

  The thing is that there is a direct command from Christ in Acts 1 that states two very crucial things:

  1) We are NOT to try and figure out when the end is, that is God's decision alone and NO ONE will know or should try to "guess":

  7 He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or epochs which ( N ) the Father has fixed by His own authority;

  2) We are to be witnesses to CHRIST:

  8 but you will receive power ( O ) when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be ( P ) My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and ( Q ) Samaria, and even to ( R ) the remotest part of the earth.”

  It is thought provoking that the JW's break those two direct commands from Christ before He left.

  To be a Christian is to believe and proclaim that Jesus Christ is Lord and Saviour, that He came in the flesh, that he was crucified, that he was burtied and rose on the 3rd day and that He will came again.

  That is the crux and core of being a Christian, beyond that is a denominational thing.

  The sin of Sodom and Gomorrah- What does the bible REALLY teach?

  as with most doctrines, the belief that the bible condemns homosexuality is multi-layered and allegedly supported by several scriptures.

  when he raised his eyes he got to see the man, the traveler, in the public square of the city.

  let me bring them out, please, and you rape them and do to them what is good in your eyes.

  The sin(S) of Sodom and Gomorrah were not just ONE ( homosexulaity).

  Whilie it is cleaer that, for a Jew, homosexuality is a sin ( and preseumably for anyone that is part of Israel even if not a Jew by birth), it is not as clear as to who other nations are judged by it, BUT assuming it is the same regard then, yes, homosexuality is a sin.

  THat said, the issue seems far more than just homosexuality as the passages in Genesis and the verse in Ezekiel show.

  It seems to me that Sodom and Gomorrah were gulity of multiple sins against God and because they were to such an extreme and against His people, God acted.

  this is new to me,im a little nervous, its for me and than later for family, wifey does not like the idea because its not the elders,and she doesnt want the org to look bad.

  she more worried about them than our marriage ,im only doing this for us and my sanity,whats you guys thoughts?.

  Therapy is a excellent step BUT realize that you only get out of it what you put into it.

  It is important that your wife realize that you are doing this for BOTH of you, that you are doing this to get closer to her, not further away.

  Reassure her of your love for her and your devotion to the marriage.

  When you are ready and your therapist agrees, you can bring her but for now it is important that you deal with YOUR issues.

  Whatever you do, be 100% HONEST with your therapist.

  I just watched "It's a wonderful life" for the first time....

  cagefighter has been a little down in the dumps as usual around the holidays, short days, lack of clear family status and plans for the pagan rituals like everyone else.

  i have also been struggling with my belief or lack of in god and god letting idiots with guns run around while he does nothing for children dying of cancer hasn't helped either.

  you can say, i have been in a extreme rationalists state of mind.. last week for my small group from church (the umc equivelent of the book study in jw land) we just decided to pop this little movie in the dvd player and light up the fire place.

  We never really know how much we truly matter in the lives of the people we know.

  It is a rare gift to be able to see what their lives would be like without us.

  Christmas carol is another great one for the Christmas season.

  there was a big "one" candle on the cake and we had a blast.

  what does studying the bible mean?

  what is the study of the bible?

  do you go into it knowing its the direct word of god or are you... this is somewhat confusing to me, how can someone who believes it is the literal word of god critically study the bible?.

  im atheist and unconvertable but i like to talk about the bible.

  I've been a student of the bible for the last 5 years.

  The last 3 of them in Theology class and a local University (part time).

  It is a whole different world, truly.

  The massive amount of research that there is out ther ein the variosu fields of bible scholarship and theology is mindboggling at times.

  Suffice to say that there are NO NEW arguments, LOL !

  For every argument I have heard there are a dozen books on it, the pros and cons and fors and againsts !

  To study the bible is to study two things: History and Theology.

  JW's do NOT studt the bible, they study the WTBTS approved literature.

  for the record, i don't think a person should be able to use "assault weapons" or "machine guns" or "rocket launchers".

  i do think guns should be allowed.

  but certainly not everyone is "qualified" to use a firearm.. even if you legally, rightfully can have a weapon, it doesn't mean that a "kook" wouldn't steal it and use it in a nefarious way.. i am convinced that you could take licenses away from drinkers and they still could get behind the wheel and wreak havoc.. you could ban switchblades and gun silencers and people will still find a way to quickly slice you up or muffle a sound.. you could ban or try to curtail cough medicines and people will still find a way to get high.. we cannot, government cannot---control what people will do.
