Raising Children in more than one language
by SonoftheTrinity ini recently told my wife that i am speaking only in the jamaican dialect from now on in my house because she has failed to teach her children her native language because she has put religion first, manners and discipline second, their education third, and her native language somewhere at the bottom.
while i am not jamaican, nor have i been to jamaica i lived in a jamaican rastafarian community as a rastafarian.
i am now orthodox christian as are many rastafarians and i still consider myself culturally rastafarian but no longer identify with their heresies.

so i told her, rather carefully, how i discovered all the child pedophile cases, went over some of the case details, explained it is occurring all over the world, so isn't just some random misunderstanding, but is widespread hiding of child sex u all abuse.
she was horrified.

Lost opportunity to witness to a pair of Moonies
by jgnat inhousebound at the moment, recovering from surgery, two lovely asian ladies approached me in my yard saying they were graduates from the something-something institute and they were practising what they learned.
they wanted to tell me about mother god.... that elicited a pretty fast "no thankyou" and they moved to the next door.
i entertained the idea of giving those two girls a run for their money, but hubby said no- go.

Elders answer questions about the changes of the blood ban
by opusdei1972 insome days ago two elders visited my sister because she has not been attending the meetings more than one year.
this time she prepared notes containing watchtower past teachings about the blood ban so as to ask them for those changes, and it seems that the elders were also prepared for her past questions.
for instance she showed them that "albumin" was considered "under scriptural ban" in 1956 (read the page 20 of awake, september 8).

Yadda, that principle may apply even closer than mine does. The difference is practicing Jews have found practical applications to take care of obvious inconsistencies (taboo threatens a life) whereas the WT cherry picks scriptures to rigidly apply, injustices be damned.

My evangelical church has mandatory training for children's workers plus reference checks. Other volunteer organizations that work with children also required the check. I was told in training that predators look for fertile opportunities. The factors they are looking for include; lots of children, trusting organizations, opportunities for physical contact, and ideally an authority structure that suppresses objectors. Fertile fields include sports teams, churches, other volunteer organizations.
