I correct hubby's use of Witness-ese. If he calls it "necessary spiritual work", I call it "cold calls" or "peddling magazines". If he tries to correct me, I tell him what else can it be? You are calling on people who did not invite you, to speak to your agenda, not theirs. The very definition of a cold call.

The frustration of talking to a person with a closed mind
by TheStumbler inokay, this is going to be a bit of a general rant.
i had a long conversation with a jw elder recently about shunning and evolution.
i became qunite frustrated with the conversation and admitted this at the time.

Have you read 1984? There's plenty of examples in there how a totalitarian regime can rewrite the dictionary towards their own ends. So goes the WTS.
I don't talk to the cultic side of Witnesses. That's a head-brick wall exercise that only hurts me. I do my best to address their natural personality. I learned this from Hassan's books about distinguishing between these two sides of a cultist.
Of course, that means that controversial subjects such as evolution are off the table.
If you are going to engage, pick one point and drill home that point, asking questions and let them hang. Make him think. People's natural reaction to "dead air" is to fill it in with words. Don't do that. Sit in silence and let him stew.
If he goes off topic to wiggle out, politely tell him that you really can't move on until he addresses your original point, and then end the conversation.

I'm just looking for good resources to pass on. I don't think my recommendation can be equated to "worship". I've been sincerely asking for alternative resources multiple times on this thread and all I get is *crickets*.
Now keep in mind, for this particular purpose, I am not looking for a scholarly work that is peer-reviewed. Simply a resource for those outside a cult who can have some sense of how to approach their loved-ones. I know from painful experience that the wrong approach can entrench the cultist, and the damage done can take years to overcome. I would like to spare others that kind of aggravation and pain.

A question for itisme and a watcher. How can you be true to yourself in this organization where you have serious doubts, when the mark of a true Witness is one who goes out in to field service? Do you continue to go out in to field service? How do you honestly express your new beliefs to the householders?

I am looking for titles. Nothing in English, eh? I've been at this for over twelve years, you see. So I would be very interested in anything you have found that is similar or superior to what I have been recommending.

The TRUE story of a Pedophile
by Tech49 inthis is a true experience that i thought i would share, one that occurred just a few years ago in my area.
it is a real experience, nothing made up here.. a younger couple moved into our kh, into the joining congregation (so not ours, but the other one that shared our kh).
they seemed nice enough, they had one boy that was about 8, and a baby on the way.

Question: is anyone requesting a leadership position at the Kingdom Hall required to allow a criminal record check, including a review of the sex offender register? I would consider leadership to include publishers, pioneers, Ministerial Servants and elders.
As far as I can see, people volunteered for these positions are merely asked to self-report.

Pretty awful. This is what happens when an organization is more concerned about it's external appearance than what is really going on.
