I'm not comparing their success at all but they are a bit similar. Linus was one of the first voices in the custom PC community on YouTube. From there it grew really bit. It did help he is more entertaining than Lloyd but they both reaped the benefits of having the perception they were first for many in their communities. Linus has a MASSIVE following. With way more to lose of course. But now Linus is getting dragged super hard for his response to all this and mysteriously it shares the same "ex-jw" mindset we supposedly all have.

Fair point Jehalapeno, also his response was only the GN video, it looks like it was done before the working conditions issues came up. Linus' initial response though was horrible. Shirking any responsibility, gaslighting, etc... The video also didn't do him any favors. Even if you can't outright apologize due to liability issues it could have been handled better.

There is a big scandal in the tech sector with a hugely popular YouTuber Linus from Linus Tech Tips. All over unethical behavior. They didn't kill any kittens or anything. I guess the tech sector is filled with people who have a JW mindset. By the way Linus in his apology video also monetized his video and never really apologized for their behavior.
It's really crazy how Lloyd and Linus are handling the scandal in a similar way. Everyone is like, "just apologize" and he refuses to.

The next betting line should be on when/if Lloyd releases the letter on his channels before we find out. He hates it when he isn't controlling the narrative. Wouldn't be surprised if he tries to get ahead of this with some silly spin.

Awesome Kim. Am also curious if the lawyer had any thoughts on the matter. As in did she feel confident this was thrown out and like 99% of the people who hear about it had the same reaction of finding it ridiculous?

I don't think his looks carry much into it. There is a rule in marketing that it's always better to be first in the eyes of consumers than best. You actually see it a lot on YouTube. People who would never fit the "mold" of commercially viable looks wise have huge audiences because they were seen as "first". That's another reason this train wreck is so hilarious/sad to watch. All dude had to do was just the minimal and he would have staying power likely the rest of his life and probably an ok residual from ad revenue. But nope.

What is so dumb and this is coming from someone whose real life job is to create content for a global company...what he makes requires little skills. Honestly, he doesn't even have to edit much if he doesn't want to. All Tibor adds is a nice filter on top. But do ex-jws really care that much about how well something is edited? Especially when 99% of the content is interview/podcast style? Like really? This dude is so lazy, he'd rather beg out here like a homeless person than learn the most minimal of editing skills.

I love the people who come in here trying to be like, “you gossip like jws”. No we gossip like people in the real world. It’s just that many were brainwashed into thinking that all gossip is bad and isn’t normal. This thread would be 20,000 pages long across multiple forums if Lloyd was remotely famous with people in the “world”. It would be water cooler talk at the office with people laughing. If anything Lloyd is lucky it only impacted the ex-JW community.
By the way one easy fix is just to avoid this thread if you feel this strongly about it.

Hmm interesting question Kim. I think at the end of the day he wasn’t really a activist or a YouTuber he was an opportunist. Capitol “O”. He can make a claim he has done some activism, but seems to only do it if he can promote himself at the same time. He can make a claim he is a “YouTuber” but most entertaining channels expand their content into other areas. Lloyd can only discuss two topics. Ex jw technicalities and himself. That’s it. So in both examples he’s not good at being and activist or YouTuber. He only has the thinnest resume possible to justify his claim to calling himself either one of them. What he is best at is promoting himself. He is also lucky that he had ambition and good timing. It’s more important to be first in peoples eyes than best. That’s all he needed.
But competition always comes for people. Now there are activists that get loads more views and do way more work than Lloyd. Now there are YouTubers who have more creative ideas, are experts in other fields, and get more views than Lloyd. So now he’s being exposed as a on again off again activist. A lazy content creator and a self promoter.

Wow awesome work Derek and Kim! One thing that may be possible is to use a service like Fiverr for the translations. I used to use it for commercial translations all the time. Also I’m not sure translations will cost that much. Especially in Croatia. My girlfriend recently had to get some translation work done by a pro and it was around $20 per page for documents going to immigration. For something non official it should be a lot cheaper
