It is sad when someone like that passes on. A dear old brother died last week in our circuit, he had been a loyal JW's since the 1950's, he was a real gentlemen who loved the all in the congregation in which he served. I know that he was a genuine force for good and even though I am fading I will attend the service for him because he too was unhypocritical and did his best for the people he loved.

Bohm, I suffered this type of torment for 42 years from the time I was born. The public talk you heard was probably "Is the Trinity a Scriptural Teaching?" It is one of the Talks I used to give. These talks are based on an outline from the society. There is some lattitude for the speaker to make it his own but following the direction if quite a prescriptive outline. At least you didn't actually fall asleep.
Will you be going again? Or will find better things to do with your life?

But what did this brother Irwin ever do to lift a finger to correct all the wrong in the organisation?
There are many sincere Elders who try to make a difference, even it is only congregation or circuit level. Some keep trying all their lives, others give up, step down and move on. Although I generally enjoy your comments Yadda, I think the question you ask is making an assumption that Bro Irwin did not try to do anything, that is something that we don't know. He was obviously well respected and will be fondly remembered by those who knew him and for those who are grieving for him on this board you have my condolescences.

Bluegrass has had an excellent opportunity to answer a serious question and demonstrate his faith. What does he do? Slag everyone else off.

I love walking my dog. I am lucky enough to live in a rural area with plenty of wildlife and walks where you don't see many people (in the uK that is quite difficult).

Jordan Maxwell mentions JWs
by cameo-d ini am not a fan of this guy.
i see many half-truths in his ramblings.. however, i did think it might be of interest to know that in this newly released video, he mentions the jws briefly.
he does not say watchtower; he specifically says jehovah's witnesses.. because this guy is so self consumed, i wouldn't put anyone through the torture of listening to the long winded video, so i will cut to the chase.. at 38:20 the interviewer asks a question....and you should start from there.

I can honestly say IMO this guy is quite nuts. I don't think his mention of JW's will be seen as significant by anyone. If anything, It will be an embarrassment to some the witnesses, that someone like this even gives some credability to them,a bit like Michael Jackson's odd behaviour was when he was associated. The main difference being MJ was a tortured genius this guy just comes across as a self opininated dellusionist (Simon I hope that is classed as libelous)!

JW's Defend 607 BCE Teaching!
by tryingtoexit inmy father (who's an elder) just sent me this link...and i'd like to get yall opinions on it before i call him back:.
apostates and other opposers argue that jerusalem was not destroyed in 607 bce, but in 587 bce, and provide what they claim is archaeological evidence to support this.
if 607 bce is wrong, then the seven times prophecy ending in 1914 ce would be wrong also.. .

"Scholar" will be along shortly to commend the articles that your Dad shared with you. The "celebrated WT scholars" have done their homework. There's no point in second guessing them.
I can't wait!!!!!!!

"Stone the infidels", erm ... I mean apologists (IMPORTANT)
by Simon ini've noticed a trend lately which is becoming annoying and is definitely something we want to address and put a stop to.. we'll see topics or get pms about some 'evil poster' that is making abusive posts or harrassing someone, driving people from the forum, yada yada and so we look ... and find nothing.
we ask for examples of their behavior where they have harrassed people and it goes rather quiet.
in fact, we find just the opposite - people being respectful and in return getting abusive posts directed towards them.. and why the hostility?.

Which is your favourite single malt Scotch Whisky, and why?
by lifelong humanist inas a true scot, i'm deeply passionate about most things scottish, any possibly one of our small nation's most successful export is my main favourite - our single malt whisky heritage.. i'm writing this while savouring a 12 year old highland park - distilled in the orkney islands, the most northerly distillery in scotland.
it is one of my favourites - it was my late father's favourite tipple.
yet, only 500m from my house is scotlands oldest legal whisky distillery - glenturret, in crieff.
