It is incredible how transparent the "control by fear" is when you you are out. When you are in, it can dominate every action you take in your life, what type of job you take, who you associate with even what you eat and drink. The thought of everlasting life is not a "hope" it becomes a fear, a fear of "what if I don't make it?".

Any lurkers here who are worried about whether they are about to be put on god's "hit list", please realise he doesn't expect you to worship in fear of your life, it is the self appointed, uncaring men who call themselves the FDS and it's governing body who place these unreasonable demands and fears on you.

CO handovers

i have just been reading the thread about co do get togethers and it led me to think of a question that i have had for years.. every three years the co rotate and a circuite will get a new guy to hound the elders.

my question is, what level of handover info does the new incumbent get from the leaving co?

i now they get the congregation reports but is their any exchange of personal information regarding elders personalities / weaknesses, are potential trouble makers identified etc.?

Thanks xelder that was exactly what I wanted to know, My reason for for asking is that I turned down down a CA part before stepping down and the outgoing CO was more than surprised and I am sure he very unsure of my motives. He knew me well and we condidered each other as friends. I was just wondering if I would be on some sort of "watch" list. It sounds like I may well be. My next CO visit is in January, by that time I am expecting to be a very rare attender, but still reprting some FS (trying to avoid the "he's fallen off radar lets see him beofre the visit" category), the info you have just revealed will help me to get the balance right to avoid an interrogation.

Assembly Parts NEVER made sense to me....!!!!

this is and always has been one of my biggest gripes: assembly parts/experiences.

not 1....ever......e-v-e-r was even remotely relatable to me.

now i have traveled all over the place (and to other countries) and i have sat amongst rich and poor jws, suburbanites and urbanites, siddity folks and straight 'hood'.....and not 1 assembly experience made me sit up in my seat and say "wow - that's just like me!".

The weirdest I heard was a couple of years back at Bournemouth District Convention.

We were told about a guy who lived on the Isle of Wight (an Island off the South Coast of England) and commuted each day to London, in order to work in city (this is approx a 3hr commute each way) where he was obviously earning big bucks in finance. He was an appointed man (an Elder from what I recall) and despite his self imposed stupid daily commute he never missed meetings, and took the lead in weekend FS.

Everyone I spoke to asked why was he used as an example? What sort of quality time could he possible be giving his family. He could move off the Island and move nearer to work or find a job nearer to home. So we were expected to see his stupidity and putting family behind career and congregation as an fine example.

How Many Here Actually "Studied" The Publications?

when i was a teenager i extensively studied nearly every publication.

i especially enjoyed looking up the root words meanings in the hebrew and greek of the bible language.

it gave me the flavor of a word and its origins.

Nevr read the yearbooks, but loved things like the Creator book and Books on prophecy. I would sit for hours reading stuff on the CD ROM, just researching stuff for the hell of it.

Who remembers the Circuit Orchestra's? How good was yours?

in the days before 'simplification', the days of 3 day circuit assemblies (fri evening plus sat & sun), when we used have catering departments that cooked and served up hot meals, we also used to have circuit orchestras.. i must say ours was pretty poor though, only matched by the lacklustre singing.. eyeslice.

(bee in his bonnet since mrs eyeslice went to singing practice at local kh on sunday evening).

I remember those, I knew two members of the orchester very well, both extremely accomplished musicians (A guy Called Jim Burgess who played Bassoon and another Guy called Bev Wood who played violin).
