A question about Vampires (Well Vampire Bats and other blood sucking creatures)
When you were a dub did you ever consider this ...........
As Jehovah regards blood as something sacred, why did he create animals that feed on the stuff?

Well done - I know exactly how you are feeling since my Missus has gone through a similar process.
i typed in:.
jehovah's witnesses .

The name Peter Mandleson comes up as "Mean Old Serpent"
i wanted to say a few things to current and former elders.
it was really a post by alltimejeff on 10/1/2009 that got me thinking about this and i address a few things that he says here.
but i dont want to single him out because i really think that he is typical of many, and he did in fact apologize for his actions at the end of his post.
Hi Styxx and Welcome. I think you need to read Jeff's full story to understand his motivations. As witnesses, growing up in the organisation we are encouraged to reach out, CO's even talk about a "career in the truth", unfortunately when anything like that is presented as a carrot people will work towards it. This is especially so when many have given up worldly careers to give of their best to Jehovah.
Ambition is not new, the aspostles were constantly fighting about who among them was the greatest. They would have no doubt have created problems themselves with this attitude.
I was an elder, I tried to do what I felt was right and best for the congregation. Unfortunately the ones who were ambitious, abusive and showed nepotism are still serving and being patted on the back for that service by the heirarchy of the organisation.
i upgraded a couple of days ago from ie7 to ie8 after a prompt showed up on my desktop.
after hours of locked pages, slow downloads and unsuccessful attempts to tweak the settings on my computer; i followed a suggestion on computer related board.
i've uninstalled ie8 and reverted to ie7.
Fills me with confidence to upgrade from vista to windows7.
i have been thinking about this alot recently.
calling our god the creator by his first name jehovah takes alot of nerve.
my 10 year oll son doesnt walk around calling me by my first name.
I think the penny has dropped with the missus (her conclusion above). Thanks with helping us in our family worship night Psanc!
my wife and i want to start looking afresh at the bible, go back to basics as it were.. what have people here found to be the best approach?.
what translations of the bible would you reccomend (i have the nwt).
what commentaries / texts have people found most useful?.
Hi Wobble, anyone who share a pint has reached christian perfection already. To buy your drinking buddy a pint of his own is well on the way.
Thanks for your comments my friend.

Psacremento - I agree with what you are saying.
I have thought about the insistance on using a name rather than the term Father and I think I have sussed it.
JW's are taught that God is the father only to the annointed who are his spiritual sons. They can appropriately refer to him as father and have a close familial bond with him. The rest are taught that they are one step removed from this they are not sons and at best can only hope to be declared righteous as God's friends as Abraham was.
You cannot be a friend to someone whose name you do not know and use. The use of a name is smoke and mirrors it says by refering to God as Jehovah we have a close personal relationship with him, but not too close. It does place distance between followers in general and the spiritual sons. The Great crowd are not family members but personnal friends. In this context the pronunciation is of less importance than what it means psychologicaly.
Over the years the great crowd has been distanced from the annointed and the governing body. Different hopes, different relationships with god and different mediators. It's not always spiritual snobbery to use the name it is a genuine desire to build a relationship with a being who is not as close to all followers as was first thought.
I realise this thread has gone off point a little but I hope this helps to explain a little why the name has such significance within the organisation.
As I am new to all of this I may not be on the same page as everyone else but I have found all the posts helpful and informative.
i know some jw's who only watch movies with specific ratings.
some will watch only pg and g. others will watch pg-13.
but i know which ones i can watch these with and which ones not to.
I was always quite naughty. I would never watch anything truly "demonic" like the Exorcist, but had no problem with violent films like Tarantino. I would never watch a Harry Potter film at the cinema but wouldn't have any worries about watching it at home when it was shown on TV- always thought that "ban" was BS, but wouldn't want to stumble anyone.

This is the original Cantleave - I will get Mrs Cantleave to get her own sign-on at some stage!
