The Watchtower, the faithful and discreet slave indeed!
by dgp inhow many of you think that this is true of the watchtower, as the (self-appointed) faithful and discreet slave?.
24no one can slave for two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will stick to the one and despise the other.
you cannot slave for god and for riches.".

By the way, NOT that I am standing up for the Catholic Church, but the Wikipedia has this about St. Francis of Assisi:
It has been argued that no one in history was as dedicated as Francis to imitate the life, and carry out the work, of Christ in Christ’s own way. [ 3 ] This is important in understanding Francis' character and his affinity for the Eucharist and respect for the priests who carried out the sacrament. [ 3 ] He and his followers celebrated and even venerated poverty. Poverty was so central to his character that in his last written work, the Testament, he said that absolute personal and corporate poverty was the essential lifestyle for the members of his order. [ 3 ] He believed that nature itself was the mirror of God. He called all creatures his “brothers” and “sisters,” and even preached to the birds and supposedly persuaded a wolf to stop attacking some locals if they agreed to feed the wolf. In his “Canticle of the Creatures” (“Praises of Creatures” or “Canticle of the Sun”), he mentioned the “Brother Sun” and “Sister Moon,” the wind and water, and “Sister Death.” He referred to his chronic illnesses as his “sisters." His deep sense of brotherhood under God embraced others, and declared that “he considered himself no friend of Christ if he did not cherish those for whom Christ died.” [ 3 ] Francis's visit to Egypt and attempted rapprochement with the Muslim world had far-reaching consequences, long past his own death, since after the fall of the Crusader Kingdom it would be the Franciscans, of all Catholics, who would be allowed to stay on in the Holy Land and be recognized as "Custodians of the Holy Land" on behalf of Christianity.
St. Francis was declared a serious risk for the Catholic Church because of his ideas about poverty. He was, actually, "swallowed" by the Church, and then his friars were changed into something he didn't create. Any similarities? Is there any Francis of Assisi within the Watchtower?

So, who does the Watchtower slave for?

Watchtower and Hedge Funds
by TJ Curioso inour "beloved" watchtower, "a spokesman of god on earth," is everywhere: on the one hand say they yearnto live with christ in heaven and on the other hand - strange as it may seem - also have their interests in the land of mortals.
let's explain!.
each year, the watchtower (watchtower bible and tract society) meets with the most important world of high finance, in its meeting of "hedge fund", obviously without telling its members to support the worldwide and that they fill the coffers.. .

It is so funny that they need "Bible standards" to know that "oral sex" is "sex". One would assume that only knowledge of English would be necessary.

Am i worthy to partake of the bread and the wine?
by TimothyT ini need to ask a serious bible based question regarding the bread and the wine that jesus passed around on the night of the passover.. i understand perfectly what these mean, and i understand their relevance, however im struggling to understand, after 15 years of indoctrination, if i am deserving to partake of them.
today at the baptist church, we were all offered the bread and the wine.
i wanted to partake but i still feel that i do not have the right to, as i am not of the chosen nation.

Perhaps this will help: as a former Catholic, I find it odd that you even ask this question. We assume that we are all invited to "partake". It's just a matter of whether you are willing to do it with a clean conscience or not, and whether you understand what you're doing.
I never bothered to learn Bible quotes with verse number and all because to me that seemed an exercise in futility. Why keep it in your memory if you can write it down somewhere, add a sticky note to your bible, whatever? However, I can ask you a question: Didn't Jesus say something like "take my flesh and drink my blood", et cetera? Where in that passage do you find the "restrictions apply" part?

Your top 5 most irritating doctrines/practices?
by cedars init's clear that virtually everyone on here is infuriated by wt teachings/doctrines/practices, but i would really like to know what is of most concern to people who frequent this forum.. here is my top 5, number 1 being the most significant/infuriating:.
the disfellowshipping practice - expanded to include family members (but not parents) who are old enough to leave home.
wrecks families and creates abject fear once people find out the truth about the organization.the blood issue - another unmerciful teaching, but one that costs lives.unquestioned authority of governing body - a handful of men make life-altering decisions as representatives of a larger group of people who they never see or speak to, and yet they demand unquestioning obedience on pain of being disfellowshipped.failed prophecy - the fulfilment of huge swathes of bible prophecy, including revelation, has been attributed to the events of the early 20th century, and the actions of a small group of men.two-tier christianity - faithful and discreet slave are anointed who go to heaven to whom ransom provisions apply directly, whereas remainder, or "great crowd" stay on earth and form a sub-class, only access benefits of ransom through fds.i realise that many of these issues are inter-related, but that's roughly how i would put them.

From the outside, I find these to be:
1. Blood
2. Disfellowshipping
3. Everything else.
4. Everything else.
5. and Everything else.

Will the relatively increasing number of non-American, non-white witnesses have an effect on the Watchtower?
by dgp inon another thread ( http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/post/edit/12/4103481) i asked what the watchtower corporate ladder would be like, and whether brothers from non-english speaking countries could conceivably make it to the governing body.. as a result of the answers i got, i thought that, if i understand things correctly, most witnesses around the world basically live in three countries: the united states, mexico and brazil.
since real growth is happening mostly in brazil and mexico, rather than the us, i would expect that, sooner or later, the relative weight of brothers from those two countries would need to show.. whoever manages the watchtower in either sao paulo or mexico city (which are ranked eighth and ninth largest metropolitan areas in the world, according to the wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/list_of_urban_areas_by_population) has much more real weight than the branch overseers in several european countries (according to the same source, moscow is the largest metropolitan area in europe, and it has seven million fewer people than either sao paulo or mexico city).. what do you guys think?
can you speculate whether this will have an effect?.

Tacos and jamaica would be much better, Rub a Dub. And a caipirinha just so the Brazilians won't complain. Or, so they complain less than they usually do.
