Am i worthy to partake of the bread and the wine?
by TimothyT ini need to ask a serious bible based question regarding the bread and the wine that jesus passed around on the night of the passover.. i understand perfectly what these mean, and i understand their relevance, however im struggling to understand, after 15 years of indoctrination, if i am deserving to partake of them.
today at the baptist church, we were all offered the bread and the wine.
i wanted to partake but i still feel that i do not have the right to, as i am not of the chosen nation.

The effect we are having on the Watchtower is HUGE
by jwfacts ini was inspired by a recent thread i know i aint gunna crumble the wt, but a girl can dream to look at the effect we as individuals are having on the watchtower society.. 3dogs1husband quoted a story to show that even helping only one person is worth it.. it is encouraging to note that the one person you may have helped has lead to millions being helped, due to the power of compounding growth.. compounding growth is well illustrated by the rice on a chessboard problem.
if you start with 1 grain of rice on square one, and double it to 2 on the second, 4 on the third, 8 on the fourth, by the last (64th) square there would be 18,446,744,073,709,551,615 grains of rice.. likewise, if you help one person out of the grip of the watchtower this year, then next year you help one more and they help one, in a few years that is going to have a formidable result on the number of jehovahs witnesses.
look at the following statistics.

I agree with Mummatron. Ever heard about Ivan Illich and his "Disabling professions"?
http://www.amazon.com/Disabling-Professions-Ideas-Progress-Illich/dp/0714525103
http://books.google.com/books/about/Disabling_professions.html?id=7NYPAQAAMAAJ
" regulating access" can mean "creating illegal trade".
I hate this: " Instructor approval of selected topic is required". Sounds like censorship to me. I know, such is life.

I'm not sure they are emulating anyone. I think that they just know they can get away with not answering. Whatever they do, there will always be someone whose fear will turn him or her into one of the "fold". Because there are people who just want to believe. "Anyone who can appease a man's conscience can take his freedom away from him", says the Grand Inquisitor in the Brothers Karamazov.
Also, we live at an age and time when people are afraid to call a spade a spade. Men (and a few women) in positions of power can get away with "responding", never "answering" (I'll get to that in a minute) because so many of us refuse to demand that they speak clearly or else.
One of my "aha" moments in life came when, in the course of my work, I was "given training" as to how people should "respond" to a journalist's question, "but not necessarily answer". The explanation is easy: Say what you want people to hear, not necessarily what answers their question. If I were to say, "Why are people told to die rather than take a transfusion", the response would be "Why do you say so? I'm afraid you've been misguided. Let me explain... and yada, yada, yada". "Response", not "answer".

The Watchtower, the faithful and discreet slave indeed!
by dgp inhow many of you think that this is true of the watchtower, as the (self-appointed) faithful and discreet slave?.
24no one can slave for two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will stick to the one and despise the other.
you cannot slave for god and for riches.".

CoCo, St. Francis puts to shame many people, most Catholics included as well.
I would like to make it clear that I know the rank and file witness is basically a good person. I am talking, as some of the posters correctly pointed out, about the Governing Body and their cronies. As is the case with some priests, they may not own property, but they live a life of privilege. Would they give that up?
I have always liked his prayer. I was taught to make it mine. I'm not religious anymore, but I still find it great.
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
when there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
Grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood, as to understand,
to be loved as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying [to ourselves] that we are born to eternal life. -
