Notewe, welcome to the board. I never was a witness, and never will be, thanks to this board, among other things. I'm absolutely sure that the people here will support you. I'm afraid I can't be of much help to you, since I was never in, but I'm willing to do whatever I can.

Do Atheists Celebrate Christmas?
by believingxjw indo atheists celebrate christmas, the celebration of christ's birth?.
if so, why?.
-
dgp
True said it better than I did:
"I think most Atheists may celebrate to some certain extent, particularly if they have children under their wing.
It may be just a holiday to enjoy the days off of work and responsibilities.
When your an atheist you don't have to be involved with any religious celebration, its an individual choice.
To myself its dinners at restaurants and visits to friends and family members ( Who say its not really a Christmas get together ) "
That's the answer. No need to say more.

I would first define the word "atheist", not because we don't know what it means, but to better make my point. I think we will all agree that "atheist" means "he or she who doesn't believe there is a God, or Gods". So, a Moslem, for example, or a Hindu, are not atheists, and they won't celebrate Christmas because they don't believe in Jesus as God.
Atheists like me do celebrate Christmas, but as a social holiday. Or, as an occasion to reconnect to friends and family. Though you might not believe in Jesus being your savior, or Buddha being in the Nirvana, you do believe in loving thy neighbor. You do believe in making a better world. You do believe in being kind to people. And, beyond that, atheists living in Christian countries grew up surrounded by the faith, and were probably raised in a faith, so they can but adopt the customs of the lands where they live.

by dgp ini'm under the impression that the restrictions the wtbts imposes on witnesses to interact with non-jw's ultimately means that a non-jw might find he or she can't really help a faithful witness.
even if the witness in in real, serious need, or in the common events of every day life.
you can't ask your witness neighbor to come over to your house and interact normally.

I am so, so, so, so unbelievably happy for you, Can't and Nugget. I remember that post by you, Can't, when you first discussed things with your wife. I remember that, back then, I had just dared to do something other than lurk in this site, and started posting.
My situation can't be solved, and I miss her tonight. Maybe that is why I'm so happy to hear that you two are together in this. At least you two will stay together.
I hope to be around the day you announce that you two are finally free. I don't think I can do much for you from where I am, other than wish you the very best.
I don't find the words to say how happy I am for you two. Can't and Nugget, you two CAN indeed LEAVE.

Merry Christmas, cantleave and nugget! I'm so happy that you're celebrating it tonight.
Is nugget related to you, Can't? Is she your wife? If she is, well, I think there can be no better Christmas gift than that.

"The Joy of Celebrating a Godless Christmas"
by leavingwt insome of you may find this to be interesting, for various reasons of agreement and/or disagreement.. .
the joy of celebrating a godless christmas.
for some christmas celebrants, secular traditions like television specials, gifts, and decorations are just a distraction from the holiday's religious signification.

I don't want to die.
by paul from cleveland ini've been conditioned since childhood that i'm going to live forever.
i'm having a hard time contemplating the fact that i'm going to die.
i'm so afraid of death that i can't enjoy the life i have now.

Paul from Cleveland, you wrote: What gives your life meaning? It all seems so pointless. When I was a witness, there was some point to it all. Something greater than myself.
I used to be scared of death. I have come to accept it as a fact of life, a bad one, but a fact of life after all. And I have learned not to worry too much about it before it's a real issue. Eventually, you will come to this point, too.
Never let people use your fear of death to dupe you into a trap. You felt your life had a purpose, and you felt you were serving something greater than you. But it was not true. Sorry.
