by JerkhovahsWitless inmy friend and his girlfriend will be meeting with their elders this coming week to confess the lengthy amount of time they've been committing "pornea".
so far the elders know that he wants to meet with them and he wants to setup a time.
he hasn't told them what for though.. he was asking me what the process will be like.

He was asking me what the process will be like. I've never had to go through this before, but from what I read I told him:
I think once they tell the elders why they wanted to meet with them, the elders will setup a time for a judicial committee. My friend and his gf will then have to go confess to their parents about their "sins" and then fear the parental freakout that will ensue.
The day of the judicial committee at least three elders will make sure neither of them are recording the cult trial, then interrogate them both seperately and probably want all of the graphic details. They'll read scriptures, tell them how terrible they both are, send them out of the room and judge, then tell them to come back in and DF them. Sometimes there might be more than one JC meeting before the verdict.
They'll have the option for an appeal, which will be a waste of time.
To get reinstated they'll have to go to all of their meetings for a while, then write a letter requesting to be reinstated.
Is that all there pretty much is to it or are there details or steps I mixed up or left out that would make him feel better knowing before he goes?

It seats 5,000 assholes, according to Wikipedia.
The leaks were repaired by slave "volunteer" labor. It wasn't a leaking roof - it was a poorly designed air conditioning system that dripped condensation on the floor below. Arbeit macht frei!
I'll be one of the assholes sitting there for three days in a couple of weeks.
I was also slave labor that helped clean that place.
Does anyone remember those scary alien looking a/c vents that used to hang above everyone?

who had a child molester in their congregation ?
by looloo ini have done this thread a long time ago , but a few newbies have joined recently and may have had some experiances to share , there was 2 in the congregation i was involved with (i was a "study" ) one was from bethel in america and got deported after his prison sentence and the other was reprooved for abuse then carried on abusing in the congregation , years later he abused my daughter and after i found out i reported him to the police , but he had got off "scot free" for 20 years untill i reported him .
i believe the one from bethel was reported to the police simply because elders kids were affected ..

I have 2 that I know of in my congregation. Who knows how many there actually are there...
One was a JW the whole time he was molesting his kids. He still is a JW today. I found out about him through a member of his family.
The other was convicted prior to becoming a JW. I found his record in the sexual predator database one day.
My congregation doesn't even have 100 people in it.

Question about DF'ing
by JerkhovahsWitless ini have a relative who was df'ed in one congregation and later moved to another congregation in another state.
the old congregation, whose elders were friends with my relative's ex-spouse, refused to reinstate my relative for a few years, (the ex-spouse continually had a hand in their decision).
finally, the new congo contacted bethel and eventually the old congo allowed the reinstatement.

Kum Vulcan: Yes, he has to get reinstated for family reasons. He lives with parents while he finishes school. If he didn't attempt to get reinstated, he'd get the boot out of his house and probably kiss his parent paid tuition goodbye. Also, when he moves away and attempts to fade, he'd still like to have contact with his parents and sibblings.

Thank you for the fast responses.
Judging from the steps sir82 listed, if he wrote his letter requesting reinstatement to the new hardass elders, they could keep saying no as long as they wanted just because they don't feel he's been shunned long enough. The elders from the old congregation wouldn't even be aware that he's requesting to get reinstated until the new elders say yes and then they ask for the old elder's final input?
So, I guess if he wants to get reinstated quicker, I'll have to tell him he's better off staying at his current congregation, and suffering with having to see his soon-to-be ex-gf 2 times a week, that he would have married, if he didn't realize he was in a cult. Wow, what a F'ed up way to have to get over breaking up with someone.

I have a relative who was DF'ed in one congregation and later moved to another congregation in another state. The new congregation didn't have the authority to reinstate them. The old congregation, whose elders were friends with my relative's ex-spouse, refused to reinstate my relative for a few years, (the ex-spouse continually had a hand in their decision). Finally, the new congo contacted Bethel and eventually the old congo allowed the reinstatement. Is this the usual case that the old congo is the authority on the reinstatement?
The reason I ask is that my best friend is going to be DF'ed this month. (If you remember the previous threads of mine, you'll know what the story is about). He wants to be DF'ed and reinstated at his current congregation because these elders tend to reinstate people in a year or less. But, his current congo is the same as his girlfriend's. Since the DF'ing is going to cause them to break up, and he doesn't plan on getting back together because he wants out of the cult, he would like to not go to that congregation anymore since its going to be hard having to see the girl that he is in love with but has to end things with.
I told him the story of my relative and that I'd try to find out if he got DF'ed at his current congo and then switched to his parent's shortly after, would the old congo be the ones reinstating him or not? (He doesn't want the elders at his parent's congregation to be in charge of reinstating him because the elders there are a group of donkey-holes. I used to go there myself and hated pretty much everyone. People at that congregation have been disfellowshipped for 2 years or longer before getting reinstated)
Are any elders or once disfellowshipped individuals here knowledgeable of this situation? I'm sure there's details to the process of changing congregations once you're DF'ed that I'm unaware of.

The Pagan Christ
by poopsiecakes inhas anyone read this book?
i haven't, but i just watched a documentary on it.
the author's premise is that the idea of jesus as a god coming to earth came out of egyptian mythology and that there is no real archeological evidence that jesus actually existed.

I've never read that particular book. Hmm, I'll have to add it to my list.
Similar books that I have read and recommend are:
- Christ In Egypt: The Horus-Jesus Connection
- 101 Myths of the Bible: How Ancient Scribes Invented Biblical History
- The Christ Conspiracy: The Greatest Story Ever Sold
- Suns of God: Krishna, Buddha and Christ Unveiled
- The Jesus Mysteries: Was The "Original Jesus" A Pagan God?
(I feel like I should be posting Amazon affiliate links to all of those books)I'm looking forward to reading Sex Worship Or An Exposition of the Phallic Origins of Religion after I finish Thought Reform by Lifton.
From what I've researched, the Zeitgeist debunkers seem to be Christian apologists using WT style thinking. The author of some of the books mentioned above, who's work was used in Zeitgeist has this URL about the debunker claims: http://stellarhousepublishing.com/zeitgeist-challenge.html
Btw, the Watchtower is well aware of Jesus being a sun-god. The very books they've quoted from for years showing the "pagan" origin of christendom's christmas, easter, the trinity, Madonna with child statues, etc, also expose the non-christian roots of Biblical myths.
As a quick example, if you look up the book Paganism In Our Christianity at Amazon.com, you'll be able to search through the book. Searching for "Isis virgin" will bring up pages showing the sun-god Horus was born of a virgin, as well as Buddah. Searching for "eucharist mithra" in the book will bring up a few pages about how the last supper is taken from much older religions.
Try a search for "Paganism In Our Christianity" in the WT Lib. They quote a lot from that book, but of course, out of context and only the parts they need to push their agenda.

Christian Myths and Legends?
40 According to some modern critics, Christianity also embraces myths and legends. Is that really so? Many scholars reject as myths the virgin birth of Jesus, his miracles, and his resurrection. Some even say he never existed but that his myth is a carryover from more ancient mythology and sun worship. As mythology expert Joseph Campbell wrote: “Several scholars have suggested, therefore, that there was never either John [the Baptizer] or Jesus, but only a water-god and a sun-god.” But we need to remember that many of these same scholars are atheists and thus reject totally any belief in God."I love that logical fallacy the paragraph ends with. Actually, one big fallacy sums up that entire article. (Gotta also love their interpolated Josephus quote to prove Jesus' existence later in the article, but they leave out the rest of it where Josephus says Jesus died on a cross).
Interestingly, here's the whole quote from Joseph Campbell "'The rite of baptism was an ancient rite coming down from the old Sumerian temple city Eridu, of the water god Ea, "God of the House of Water". In the Hellenistic period, Ea was called Oannes, which is in Greek Ioannes, Latin Johannes,' Hebrew Yohanan, English John. Several scholars have suggested, therefore, that there was never either John or Jesus, but only a water-god and a sun-god.'"
