What year Did you Stop Attending Meetings - How Long were you a JW ?
by flipper ini'm trying to compare some statistics and figures on this to share later in the thread to see if more long-time witnesses are exiting- or are newer witnesses exiting after a shorter period of time.
and - are more people exiting in the last 10 to 15 years than before.
so your answers would be helpful in looking into this .

I LIKE Y'ALL, TOO!!!
by snowbird inthis is just a note to all who have assured me of their fondness for me, on board and in pm.. i really appreciate it, and i feel the same about y'all.. this is a great site, and i do get a bit carried away at times.. blame it on too much loneliness and not enough to do on the job, but not on deliberate crassness.. ok?.
thanks!.
sylvia.

Which poster would you like to have a beer (or Pepsi for the sober peeps) with? Why?
by serenitynow! ini've lurking for months, and have enjoyed the various personalities on the board.
i'm pretty sure that i've seen this topic done on an old thread, but i don't want to get my buddy asilentone all riled up by performing a resurrection.
minimus- cause he is funny.

I try to look at the positives I can find in any circumstance. I was 16, it controlled me enough to get me off of drugs and other unpleasant things. I needed to be controlled at the time. Not really sure I would be alive without it. Having said that, I find I'm a better person, happier and more fulfilled since I left.

My first experience at a Christian church--for what it's worth
by bluecanary ini am dating an advent christian (very similar to baptist).
i went to church with him for the first time yesterday.
i was pleased that he wanted me there because it's nice to be included in things that are meaningful to him.

Are JW's so interested in outward appearances that they are missing an ingredient of intimacy that is needed to forge real relationships amongst the unwashed masses that is mankind?
Yes. They do not encourage relationships outside of the congregation. Family relationships (of those not living in the household) and relationships with neighbors, co- workers and class mates are only encouraged on the basis of "necessary business" or the jw's ability to "witness" to such family members. It is highly discouraged bying using the scripture in 1Cor. 15:33. "Bad association spoils useful habits" If you are not "a lover of Jehovah" AKA a Jehovah's witness, you are bad association and could lead the Jehovah's Witness out of Jehovah's organization. (I'll leave references to Blondie or Leolia, I don't have the info here at work)
BlueC, Thanks for your post, I was suprised the first time I attended church, that it was nearly as scary as jw's make it sound. I was impressed that the one I attended was more focused on worship & praise, then 2 hr. lecturing about how great they are.

Would You Picket A Kingdom Hall?
by minimus ini know some zealots that have carried signs and peacefully picketed kingdom halls, especially on the memorial.. what do you think about that?.
-
littlebird
No, they have a right to believe what they want and picketing would only re-enforce their belief that they are "being persecuted for Jehovah's name". People dressed up like clowns and picketed the assembly when I got baptised. All it did was make me think they were weirdos, and that I was being persecuted from satan for getting baptised. Big back fire.

Why is it so hard for Ex-JWs to make that "final step" and give up Christianity?
by sabastious ini'm not sure if it's just denial on a lot of people's part, but the reason the jws doctrine is so wacky and controlling is because they are among the few religions that really try to follow the bible!.
the bible is the culprit here in actuality, but even after someone has "wizened up" to the misguided teachings of jehovah's witnesses they still hold the bible as inspired word of god.. why don't you believe that the governing body was chosen as the faithful and discreet slave in 1918?
because the only real evidence to that fact is that they say so.

I looked at the evidence for and against Christ, the bible, etc and compared that with my own personal experiences and came up with different conclusions than the atheists. I'm not a walking, talking encyclopedia, like some here, but my search found a historical Christ, evidence of the flood and confidence in the bible. Part of the reason I'm not much of a reference quoter is because I don't really feel the need to convince anyone of anything. I'm happy, it's my life and I'm finally feel free to believe as I wish.
