How Do You Feel Being Thought Of As An "Apostate"?
by minimus indoes it bother you if witnesses regard you as an apostate?.

Most of the time, I really dont care, as per the definition that thetrueone posted, I am one. I do, however sometimes hate being known as a 'big time apostate" Geez. I was invited to a wedding where the son is no longer a witness and he was marrying a disfellowshipped girl. The father, who is a double life witness, refused to go if I attended because even though there were several ex witnesses there, I was a 'big time apostate" for his son's sake I didn't go.
The only way he could have even known anything about my views was if someone was on the only one board I'm on where my real name is used, so I say, "hey what are you doing there, dumb ass? got some doubts about the "truth", do you?
So, in general, I really don't care, but sometimes the consequences are annoying.

The Bible, Why not Reliable?
by sayitsnotso inokay here is my thread to discuss this.
i believe the bible is inspired by god and reliable.
many argue it's neither.

Thank you dave & leolaia for your responses.
No, I admit, I don't have facts, only speculations & theories. I don't know how anyone can really have too many facts in either direction, none of us were there. And as your video pointed out, archeology can swing either way, too.
At this point in my journey, I believe the bible to be as reliable as the imperfect people who wrote it. I focus more on the New Testament and my belief in Jesus. I believe that those writers made a real effort to write down their experiences with Jesus and I believe them. As far, as them being secretaries for God, as described by the watchtower and by many in Christianity today, I don't believe that. I think there is enough information in the new testament to know what those people believed about Jesus and how the early church was formed for a person to make their own decision.
Since Jesus and his disciples quoted from the old testament, they must have found it to be reliable. Since Jesus lineage is found clear back to Adam, there must be some reliability to it.
I could be wrong, but , I'm ok with that.

Thank you, Leolaia, forgive me if I missed something in your previous post regarding Tyre, but I thought I read somewhere that there were two Tyres, one that Nebecanezzer dealt with and the next was the community rebuilt but down the road. I vaguely remember reading this somewhere and need to research it.
Hey Dave, Bob Dole speaks in third person all the time, lol! It's my belief that he compiled information from Noah and Abraham, & Joshua is said to have written some . It wasn't unheard of for bible writers to use scribes.

Sayitisntso How do we know verse 3 means that let light come to be isn't from the perspective from on earth? Couldn't something have been blocking the light during these creative events? Whether on earth or between the sun and the earth?
In Verse 1 it merely says he created light for the earth, it doesnt say where the source was from, light doesn't always come from the sun. The light in your bedroom is from electricity, not the sun. Being a God capable of creating a planet, I'm sure bringing forth light was easy compared to creating a universe.
As far as vegetation goes, we don't know if the earth was created in 6 literal days or not, the bible doesnt say whether or not it was. Vegetation grows in light, whether from the sun or by what we know today as artificial light. Ask anyone who has grown pot in their closet. My point is that the light created by God on the first day doesn't necessarily have to have come from the sun.

Would any of you DESTROY ones faith and life as a JW if they were your dying grandparents?
by EndofMysteries inthis is a serious question, trying to decide the right thing to do.........i do believe in god, i am sorting out what i believe and true from lie and such.
have question on how atheist and just ones belief in god would respond to this.. .
if you have a grandparent, (or even some relative) who spent their entire life as a jw.

I personally would pray for them. I would ask God for him to reveal opportunities for you to share your faith with them, tactfully. God knows their hearts, he knows if they have accepted his savior or not on their own personal level.
You can only share what you know to be true to you. None of us have all the answers. If the moment is right, it will come to you, not by you , but by the holy spirit guiding you.

LOVE your ENEMIES: where Jesus goes wrong
by Terry inmatthew 5:44 "but i say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,.
luke 6:35 "but love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return.
the most radical teaching attributed to jesus has implications if followed.. an invading hoarde of mongols would not be resisted.. a christian husband would not only allow his wife and daughters to be raped; he would be compelled to forgive the rapist, pray for him and offer.

I think as Jw's we were conditioned to think of all subjects in "black & white". Even from the platform conscience matters were discussed as gray areas, but we all know what that really means, black, shouldn't do whatever it was or we would be considered spiritually weak.
I no longer view things that way. In other words, I can except both that we can "love our enemies" and expect justice, as someone mentioned, Armagedon. Based on these two concepts alone, we can see that there is more than one personality trait to God, just as we have more than one trait. I believe if you look at the totality of his message you will see that he encourages us to "keep the peace" where we can, but there are limits.
I can turn my other cheek, give somebody my coat, if it will keep the situation from escalating.
We can certainly pray that a rapist will come to repentance and stop doing what they are doing, become reformed, but if they continue to do such things, I'm not opposed to the death penalty.

Who really are JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES......really.....?
by Terry injehovah's witnesses don't expect to convert the world.
they expect to educate the world about jehovah's kingdom and his christ.. before: nobody knows about it.. after: everybody knows about it.. how would you measure what people "know"?.
how well informed is the average citizen in 2010 vs 1879, for example?.

Yeah, Terry , they won't help others, nor will they allow you to help yourself. No college, no work that requires you to miss some meetings, you have to ask for assemblies off. Many brothers I knew, including my husband, got jobs working graveyard shift, and then were critized for sleeping in the morning instead of going out in service.
You are constantly told to "give to the preaching work" and at the same time told to "live simple". I'm so glad to be off the hamster wheel.
