How petty! I wouldn't even think of looking up the name! Have they nothing better to do? Not surprising, though, I had moved out and got my own TV before I could watch Top of the Pops, any of the soaps, Scooby Doo, E.T., Grease, Fame... the list goes on!

An announcement from the Watchtower?
by ThomasCovenant into be read by the co-ordinator of the body of elders at the earliest opportunity to the whole congregation, a copy of which is to be posted on the kingdom hall noticeboard and preferably local and national newspapers.. to the worldwide brotherhood of jehovah's witnesses;.
dear brothers and sisters,.
it is with a heavy 'heart of wisdom' that we address you all today.. we have thought long and hard, and some of us even prayerfully, of how to bring out this latest 'new light'.. for many years now we have taught what we thought were delightful words of truth.

Fantastic news!! I'm so happy for you both.
I can understand her 'information overload', as I was in the same situation when my husband helped me to leave. It's overwhelming, bless her!

by Cadellin inokay, i was just thinking about that lawn ornament gnome that ends up having its picture taken in all these exotic places and i realized that my poster name is kinda like that.

Just showed this to my herpetologist daughter. She says that the snake does look dead and the bruising on the neck is consistent with being crushed by something like a shoe.
If the leg was an atavism it would be lower down the body nearer the vent, which is where the actual vestigial limbs on snakes like pythons are located (the spurs).
The snake does appear to have eaten a lizard which was a little too big and has ruptured the stomach wall and protruded through the ribs. This is quite common, especially in young snakes, which this appears to be. (Another example of a wonderful loving creator, eh?)

Serious Omissions in New Watchtower Book
by metatron inthe society's latest book, "bearing thorough witness about god's kingdom" contains two serious omissions.. first, on page 105, it offers an outright lie about the organization and the bible.
"they do not force the scriptures to fit their views.
impartial observers have recognized this fact.

It was their misquoting and self quoting that finally tipped me over the edge. Mainly in the 'Creation' book.
Borgia, there's a bit about earthquakes and their misrepresentation of facts here: http://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/earthquakes.php
(not sure how to make the link clickable, sorry) One example from the site is:
The 1983 Watchtower article also misquotes Professor Aki in a further attempt to prove a surge in earthquakes.
- "Professor Keiiti Aki of the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology speaks of "the apparent surge in intensity and frequency of major earthquakes during the last one hundred years," though stating that the period from 1500 through 1700 was as active." Watchtower 1983 May 15 p.6
This partial quote from Professor Aki gives the opposite meaning to what he actually said. Aki's full sentence was:
- "The apparent surge in intensity and frequency of major earthquakes during the last one hundred years is, in all probability, due to improved recording of earthquakes and the increased vulnerability of human society to earthquake damage. The main reason is the well established plate tectonics which indicates a very steady fault motion over the past many millions of years."
In other words, due to the slow movement of plate tectonics there is no surge, just an apparent one due to better measurement and recording. However the manner in which the Society misquoted the Professor gives the misleading impression that there has been a surge.
