Is this chart on the same link you referred me to? Thanks for putting it here. So instead of doing battle with 521, I can choose the vaccine, and do battle with 61. "Oh. Great."

i try to keep my hands clean regularly and stay away from areas and people that i know are sick.. i have never gotten a flu shot and i do know that many that do get one, get the flu anyway.. still, the flu is considered very very bad this year..

"Since October 1, 2012, CDC has antigenically characterized 521 influenza viruses, including 17 2009 influenza A (H1N1) viruses, 327 influenza A (H3N2) viruses and 177 influenza B viruses.
I'm not sure I understand how this relates to the flu shot, in terms of...521 different kinds of viruses. So one shot is protecting against 521 different kinds of flu? Or is it just that if you're safe from a type A and a type B, you're just about ready to deal with any of the others? How does that work?

because there is a difference.
to expect somethin' doesn't mean it will happen.
for years the wts made a direct prophecy and have claimed to meet the qualifications.
So then their use of the term "expectation" is actually a big lie, because it was not merely an expectation, it was a PREDICTION. They generally did not say "we expect this to happen" (except maybe with the 1925 stuff, "we may reasonably expect..."), they said "it will happen". Even going so far as to say that God would make sure that it happened! (May 15th, 1984 WT p. 6-7)
It's just a word game they like to play, and unfortunately too many are being fooled by it.

I've never gotten a flu shot. Been debating it, but from what I've read, you can still get the flu if you get it, even the strands you're supposed to be getting protection against if you're exposed to it within 2 weeks of the shot. There are also many flu-like viruses it does not protect against. The data is dubious on its effectiveness, from what I've seen, so I've been inclined not to trust it.
I tend to wash my hands pretty regularly and thoroughly and avoid touching door knobs and elevator buttons and escalators if I can. Especially good to wash your face and hands right after you get home, too. And to not touch your face--but that itch on my nose just won't go away!
The other thing is to dress warmly--getting too cold could make you more vulnerable to getting sick. I never get proper rest, and the best I can do is hope I don't get it, really. If I do, then maybe my wife will dump my body over the balcony, douse me in olive oil, and set me aflame, then perhaps my ashes will be picked up by a hot east wind. Either way, it'll work out.

so i have another visit from the elder this week.
this time they want to speak with my wife, still a believer and myself.
i think they want to know my position about my children attending the meetings and some other things.. while preparing myself for it i though of a challenge for the elders and my wife.
Am I missing something here ? Witnesses now have to believe in apostolic sucession, ? How could I have missed this .!
Can someone please explain this to me .? ( I am having trouble keeping up with this nu-lite )
Ah. I had to think about this for a moment. Jonno's got a point there. In order for the slave to have been appointed in 1919, there has to be a form of succession, as Rutherford & gang would die off, and a new group would need to become the 'slave class'. Hence, it would be a sort of modified form of apostolic succession, with the HQ anointed playing the role similar to the 'apostles and older men' of the first century. Again, none of this matters to a JW true believer, but it's fascinating to watch.
Also, what you say to the elders really all depends on what your agenda is. If you plan to throw all political considerations aside, then you have to play their game. If not, then drop some knowledge on them, Star Destroyer style...

my husband and i have two small children, one of which recently became an unbaptised publisher and joined the school.
my husband is an elder and firmly committed to our family and loves me deeply as i love him.
i would like to find a way for all of us to fade away as we have family in the organization that we do not want to lose.
Hi. I'm sd-7. Welcome! Not that I live here or anything...
It seems like you have had quite a tough time in the congregation, to say the least. It's another testimony that sincere people like yourself are deeply troubled by things they have experienced inside the organization. It's reassuring in its own way that we're not all collectively losing our minds and are by no means alone.
You seem like a good woman, a good wife and a good Christian. Not that I have any way of really knowing that, but let's not get distracted here. I don't really know if you can convince your husband of anything. It's usually safe to assume that on your own, there's a high probability of him simply turning you in for having doubts and it totally creating a wedge between you and him. But it sounds like you have a good enough marriage that there's more potential for hope than I am accustomed to seeing.
Best thing I can tell you is to be patient, trust yourself--your feelings are telling you something is wrong for a good reason. Confusion is natural at the beginning. But a good mystery isn't solved overnight. Continue to gather evidence and be as honest with yourself as possible. Question, double-check, and triple-check whatever you find. The answers are probably closer than you think. Heck, the Bible itself provides some pretty good clues if you pay attention and read it on its own.
Enough horrible things have happened to you already, so anything you learn now probably pales in comparison, but it will be hard to learn what's really going on. Finding someone you can talk to openly about these issues is critical to your emotional well-being. I'm sure there are plenty of people here who would be glad to listen and offer support.
Once you understand fully what's been done to you for most of your life, you can begin the healing process. You've got a lot of reading ahead of you. Steve Hassan's books might help. "Freedom of Mind", his most recent work, is a good place to start.
I hope you will find your way and be able to open your husband's eyes, too.

after several months of leaving the meetings as soon as they ended or only staying for "the first meeting" then leaving the "second part", the elders finally cornered me at last night's meeting.. they said they were concerned about me and that being that i am a young brother in a recently divided congregation they saw so much potential in me to help out the congregation and become a ms.. i told them i was thankful for their thinking of me to help the congregation but that at the moment i could not due to my job.
then the began asking personal questions that got on my nerves.. they asked where i worked and how much i made.
they asked if i was going to college and what i was studying and for how long.
What I learned once I actually engaged the elders was that they're really not used to people standing up to them. They seem to be accustomed to getting their way, to having this spell of authority. You don't have to be antagonistic with them to be a man about it all. Heck, if even I was able stand up to them, and I'm a doormat, you should be able to manage just fine!
But it sounds like you're clever enough to deal with them. That's a very Bat-like move with the phone, bro. "Helps if you're prepared."

The positioning is clearly a pose, not the look of someone who was actually chopping a tree. I'm sorry, but that's got to be staged.

after reading through onedayillbefree's thread about being taken into the back room and asked inappropriate questions, i was reminded about a part done at the km school.
one of the common themes throughout the one day school was viewing things the way god sees them and how doing so will require that elders develope insight.
they defined insight as, evaluating individual aspects in light of others, or getting & understanding facts and how all relate to one another.. next, they gave specific examples where an elder will need insight in order to assist wayward sheep.
If a person or group claims to be Christian, from what part of the Bible should they get their teachings? The Mosaic Law or the Gospels? For them to
ignore what the Gospels said about the same subject (in this case the Sabbath) and find how the matter was applied under the Law, shows where
their
priorities are.
