Ugh - I saw that drama! The other thing that I really hated about it, besides what most of you have mentioned, is that the mother was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO pathetic! At least the one in the one I saw was. She just cried all the time and wrung her hands. THAT WAS IT. I'm sure all you mothers on here and out there really parent that way. "My son is being bad...oh woe oh woe oh woe! I'll just have to sit on the couch and rock and cry! Oh woe oh woe oh woe!" And of course all worldly girls at work were tramps. And not to be throwing stones, but looking around the audience, many, many of the young ladies there had on super tight pencil skirts, high heels and distractingly low cut or low buttoned tops. Seriously. I've was taken aback. Or what's the term? Oh - STUMBLED!

Attended DC this weekend, quick recap...the End may not be imminent could take a million years but its still coming
by shopaholic inattended the dc this weekend in california with a jw acquaintance of mine that wanted to go 'jw man-hunting' and didn't want to go alone.
she knows i'm not active and haven't been to a meeting in a long time and have no interest in jw men.
i think she feels like she has the best of both worlds with me, anyway it was interesting...the gb appears to be changing their tune and i don't think the masses even realize it.. br.

Thanks everyone. It seems like from your feedback that this might be a legitimate claim then. I appreciate the point about priests being trained in counseling, JB. I'm just trying to explain why just because someone gets paid to be a minister or priest, it doesn't mean they take advantage of that or are only motivated by money.

When bad spelling trolls leave, new bad spellers (studies, JW's, JW lovers) arrive
by OnTheWayOut ini will totally leave names out, as many get all huffy about that.
it's also possible that i am wrong, though i doubt it.. it's just that some trolls seem to deliberately be terrible spellers to make themselves look more naive and when they leave here for whatever reason, some new bad speller comes along in less than a week with an impossible problem or a complicated love situation with a jw or they are a firm believer with questions.
just watch out.

Thanks for the info so far! Some people on here have said that they sell the mags. Is that true? I know there's a good bit of humor used here and I appreciate it, but sometimes I'm not sure if it's a joke or not.

Do mixed marriages work? What about kids?
by greenie ini'm new and have posted something along these lines recently on another thread, but i'm wondering, do marriages between non-jws and jws work?
by "work" i mean can they be loving and happy?
and what about kids?

Do you (or anyone) know specific examples though? I'm told that all the money is used to print the mags, etc. that they give away for free, and to pay for food, shelter, etc. for Bethelites. I know some people posting here have actually lived there, so I'm looking for specific examples. The second part of what I've heard is criticism for mainstream Christian leaders who officially get paid for their jobs as priest, minister, etc. Because of course that means they are only motivated to do what they do for money (please note the sarcasm on my part). I was challenged to name another group that sacrifices by not getting paid like JWs for the religion. I couldn't name another specific group, but could only reference monks who sell all their possessions and take vows of poverty. You all are right that this belief they're the only ones who do this that or the other is a real motivating factor for Dubs. So, I just need some facts on this if they exist.

I'm curious about Bethel and Brooklyn. How does Bethel work? I'm told that no one gets paids and everyone's work there is voluntary. Is this true? How can that work? It really impresses my JW, but of course I question everything. Thoughts?

Thanks everyone.
Black Sheep, I have a question. Can you tell me why you didn't ever get baptised? If it's too personal, I understand.

Black Sheep: I get that and I'm not trying to discount it and don't doubt it for a minute, but it sounds more relevant for someone considering having kids with a JW not one that already has a child with one, know what I mean? At this point, even if one day baby thinks Daddy is crazy for his beliefs, he'll still try to pass on that lesson, you know what I mean? So I can only try to mitigate those teachings now, or prevent them from taking hold. I have heard of situations where mixed relationship kids think that "that's just what Daddy believes" re: JW beliefs.
One thing I've been pondereding all I do get a little bit of a double life feeling from him, not as severe as what some of you guys have described or experienced, but it does exist a little. His is more that he doesn't tell people he's a JW. Like, good friends don't know; apparently I spilled the beans (I'm not so discreet). So, he's never ever hidden me from his family (I think he told them about me the first week he met me), and they know I'm not a Dub. However, I'm not sure if they know - if he's told them - that I have no plans to ever become one. His mom is very sweet and talks to me about goings ons at the Hall, brings Awakes over sometime, etc. and I just listen politely, but I don't know if I should say anything outright to her (it doesn't ever seem that opportune - it would be a little forced) or throw in a church story on my part. Soooo, for the double life element, it seems he doesn't tell his non-Dub friends that he is one, and he doesn't tell his family (as far as I know) that I don't ever plan to be one. Maybe that's to preserve our bliss? What do you guys think?

"Oct 15, 1996 WT regarding 'Unbelieving Wives' "
Does anyone know where I can find this?
Yknot - thanks again for your openness and honesty! I'm just feeling a little bewildered because I know I love our life right now, but I have NO idea what it would look like when/if he returns. From what I read on this site, it seems like he would be a very different person. And I have to say, when he says his JW catch phrases, he sounds like a robot. It's very bizarre.
SAColton - of course I wouldn't be ok with that, but at this point, I'm sure someone in my child's will say that no matter what because of who the father is - a JW. In many ways, I'm already in a position where I will have to mitigate those circumstances. I don't see how to avoid them.
