tonight while watching the show in the promo leading up to his performance, lawrence talked about being raised in a cult (he did not use that exact word) but said he was always told he was not good enough, also that he was brainwashed.
made me think perhaps he is an ex jw too.
he's from the walnut creek ca area now but apparently grew up in mississippi.. ada.

Quote from the above link, his local newspaper:
Is it any wonder, then, that Beamen is determined "to live in the now"? Fiercely guarding his privacy, he's reluctant to discuss why his parents banished him from their Oakland home while in his teens ("They are very supportive now. Mom calls every day to see if I'm OK."). And he doesn't say much about a short-lived marriage he entered into at 18 ("It lasted five years, but, mentally, I left after three.").
Could be.

today i went into a charity shop near where i live.
it was the cancer research shop.
when i was there i noticed a nwt , (the new softback version), sitting on the shelf amongst the bric-a-brac.
Hmmm, I always write it directly on the magazines I find in various places. A piece of paper can fall out or be thrown away. Good job, either way you got the rebuttal in there.

i've never celebrated halloween (too bad none of you live around here - jacksonville fl), but for whatever reason, i have alot of good memories from the anticipation of the various holidays as a child (i'm originally from a state that actually had seasons), even though we as jw's did'nt participate.
i still remember being at friends' houses, seeing them apparently happy and found myself wishing that i could have something to look forward too that was fun and not just the memorial (such a solemn occasion).
i have swore to myself that when (and if) i ever have children that i will celebrate them (the holidays + birthdays) as would want them to have some of the memories that i was denied.. am i making too much of this?.
I absolutely love Halloween, or as we call it, Samhain. Samhain is a holiday pagans have for honoring ancestors, family and friends that have passed over.
Ages past folks would leave gifts of food on their doorsteps for the wandering ghosts, and leave candles burning in their window to help guide them home, that practice gradually morphed into the holiday that we now know as Halloween.

calanders have been shrunk to half {less room for hours} awake is now monthly, the watchtower has a "witness only" edition and now.....the bibles are soft cover like the "book of mormon".......less cash out i guess..
Strange, I was walking to my car after work one day a few months ago and came across a stash that a homeless person had left. There were three of these paperback new world translations, they had been out in the rain and were sopping wet. I hesitated about what to do, you really don't want to take the comfort away from someone that is that destitute, but then I thought about the fact that they prey on the most vulnerable of people, and I picked them up and tossed them out. I wondered at the time how long they had been out in paperback, they looked pretty cheap

i'm not even sure where to begin with this.. my father is considered an apostate and i haven't been allowed to talk to him for 14 years.
now i don't even have any connections to him.
i don't know anyone he knows and i don't even know basic things like where he lives.. any help on someplace where i could look him up would be appreciated..
Good luck with this. My brother lost his daughter when he left too and didn't see her from the time she was around 4 years old until she was around 19 or so. She had been told all kinds of lies about him. Amazingly enough, they have developed a great relationship. But it was heartache for him for all those years never knowing if he would ever see her again.
I'll check back on this thread to see you you make out.

in my privious thread about sunday mornings i noticed alot of people , including me sited having a full english breakfast.
but the contents of that seemed to change with every person.
so just what exactly does make the traditional full english?.
The full english is food? Dammm I thought I was about to learn something scintillating. Oh well. **yawn**
Carry on.
Ada
ahhhhh!
a lay in, slowly pottering around, doing whatever i like, a full english breakfast at 11ish, meeting freinds in town for coffee in the arvo... dodging all the jw's waving their mags as i walk through.... now that we are free, what do you do with your sunday mornings?.
Thanks for the welcome, I am not new, you'll remember me as Gretchen956. Simon was nice enough to let me change that, it never really fit me. I haven't posted in a long time.
