Ohhh, no you don't Snowbird, no you don't!! There's no walking away now, you just committed to this thread by asserting Babylon the Great is the US, and the beast is a conglomerate of European Christian nations. Explain how you've come to this conclusion. you rarely open up I've noticed. I want to hear this.

GodBlock, a new web filter that blocks religious content. Stuff like this makes me wonder about the Babylon the Great doctrine.
by miseryloveselders inhttp://www.godblock.com/.
i mentioned before that i don't agree with the wt's interpretation of who babylon the great is.
however, i can't deny that people are more open today about being closed towards religious interference in their lives.

Kingdom Hall Dreaming
by Darth plaugeis inhow many of you have had these dreams, where you find yourself at the hall or assembly?.
i have found myself in both scenarios, almost 10 years since i set foot in either, but when i do have these dreams (not often) i do laugh out loud in my dream saying "what the hell am i doing here" and the freinds..... oh how are you, it's so good to see you back.
and the venue is always dark.

I mentioned before that I don't agree with the WT's interpretation of who Babylon the Great is. However, I can't deny that people are more open today about being closed towards religious interference in their lives. I've only been on this planet a little over 30 years, so I don't know how the secular vs. religion wars were decades ago. But lately documentaries like "Religulous" are popular. Authors like Richard Dawkins are popular. And now, there's a web filter to eliminate religious content on your browser. You ever wonder if maybe the WT might be onto something with the goverment turning on the World Empire of False Religion? (translation every religion without the JW/WT label) My JW upbringing is tugging at my heart againt tonight. I see something like this GodBlocker, and immediately my JW mindset kicks in, "Is it beginning?!?!?! Have I done enough in Jah's service!?!??!" I know, its silly. Or is it?
I like their logo by the way. This is the web equivalent of "put me on your do not call list!", as I visibly pull out the territory card out of my suit jacket in front of the angry householder and make a note in the back, "don't go to 666 Pizzed Off Way"

Thought Control (A simple test for JW's)
by TD inin george orwell's novel 'nineteen eighty-four' the capitulation of the principal protagonist is portrayed in his willingness to assent to the proposition that two and two make five.
once he had denied objective reality, his mental conquest was complete and he was no longer truly the master of his own mind.
nineteen eighty-four is in many ways, a very depressing read.. a charge commonly leveled at jehovah's witnesses is that the type of mind control envisioned by orwell has been and continues to be used on them.

Remember this: "The End of False Religion is Near!"
by Mad Sweeney ini was looking through some crap on a shelf the other day and came across a bunch of these un-placed tracts from a campaign a few years ago.
the urgency in the language is palpable and the doomsday lightning bolt on the front is scary.
yet when i looked at the date of publication it was four years ago ( 2006 ) and there has to date been not one sign of religion ending, whether it's false or true.. they keep using words like "near" and "soon.

It doesn't matter Cantleave, a simple Google search, and you'll find the entire book online anyway.

I wouldnt get too excited about this. It will be the same as the Flock book. I'm more curious as to what they they want us to do with the Flock books upon recieving this new book. The letter if i remember correctly stated we would recieve instructions on what to do with the Flock books. It sounded real Mission Impossibleish.

Yeah Blondie I guess I'm showing my age. During my time, it's always been the world empire of false religion which means anybody and everybody thats not a JW. But interesting you mention the Catholic Church was the older interpretation, because in the literature today, you can still pick up on a heavy anti-Catholic mentality. I'd like to ask the younger generation on the Writing Department, what the Catholics ever do to you that Rutherford didn't instigate?
I can't remember much during the campaign with this tract. I do remember the really awkward feeling handing these tracts off to people. There's too many faiths, particulary Christian faiths in my congregations territory. Placing this track isn't the same as placing a WT magazine on smoking. Plus I don't buy the whole exclusive God's channel/Faithful Discreet Slave teaching. To brush off EVERY other Christian faith as moot is too haughty for my liking. Some months ago, in a discussion with a brother, he was really critical of the Amish, the Quakers, and other seperatist like faiths. He essentially considered them cowardly for seperating themselves physically and socially to practice their faith. The irony of it all somehow got past him when considering how we as JWs do the same thing, though mostly socially. But the mentality of criticizing other faiths is such a part of the fabric of JWs that its impossible to be a JW without looking down on other faiths with utter disdain. The worst part of it to me, is when researching Revelation, Rome, Jerusalem, etc., it becomes difficult to still believe Babylon The Great is some world empire of false religion.

I mentioned in another thread, my Brother In Law and I were doing door to door in the winter a couple years back. We came to a house that we couldn't tell whether or not was occupied. I can't recall or not whether this track was behind the screen door or on the porch with a ton of other junk. But the tract still being there for that long just laying in obscurity was illustrative of field service to me in general. Looking at it laying there emphasized to me how I feel that I'm wasting my time in FS. Fast forward a few years later, and there still doesn't appear to be anything to indicate the world goverments will be making a play at religion somehow.
The more I research history, I'm convinced the WT intepretation of Babylon the Great is incorrect.
