But undoubtedly one who is a true Christian will want to be careful not to stumble others.
When all other arguments fail..........use the "stumble card." Never fails.
i plan on inviting a close family member ..(who has been a jw for several years).. to share thanksgiving with us this year.
my husband and i have never been jws.
what exactly is a jw's reason for not taking part in thanksgiving??.

there are some interesting things coming out about this guy.
according to the der spiegel (the link below) he was kick out the 800 member church he started in germany by his congregtion for his weird teaching.
note this quote from the der spiegel article:.
The media is loving this, both the left and righ are using it for their own political interests. I agree, he's not worth printing about.

I've never done the graveyard thing either. There is no way in the world I will ever do that. Ever!!!
Thanksgiving witnessing sucks. I hate bothering people during their holidays. I also hate getting up early on my day off.

Lord knows they hate sports with a passion. So I guess I can't watch "America's team" on that day, or the Lions, Redskins, and whomever else is playing that day. Ridiculous logic. It's amazing seeing gluttony mentioned in that article, because as a kid raised in the 80s, I can't recall any articles focusing on gluttony. Its one of those tabboo subjects. I wonder if it has to do with the amount of obese witnesses prevalent within the organization?
this is an actually quote made by a district overseer at a convention in dekalb illinois in august of 2008...yep, no joking, swear on a holy bible...he actually said that.
just thought about the quote and thought i should post it to share it with the fellow 'apostates' (sarcasm)..
Not just that, misery, but do you think some JWs commit "sins" because it is a quicker and easier way to get DFd than to face the doctrinal issues? I mean, lots of people "just know something is wrong" with the organization but haven't done the research to put their finger on it. They don't know how to leave or how to explain their desire to leave (maybe not even to themselves), so they sabotage their relationship with the Borg on purpose by going out and having an affair, or they try to self-medicate their frustration with alcohol abuse, or any other number of things that they know can get them DFd (which is what they want, either consciously or subconsciously). Do you find this happens much?
I'd say yeah, but it took me coming on here to recognize it. Those ones who sabotage themselves do it as you put it, subconsciously. so they're not even aware why they did what they did. Its really depressing to think of it in that fashion. I hate even considering it. I feel a knot in my throat while I'm typing this. I've mentioned before on here, I've questioned myself a couple times if I might be hitting the bottle more than appropriate. I'll be good for this month due to hitting the gym hardcore. Alcohol ruins the gains you make due to sugar conversion. So I'm purposely avoiding all things alcohol for the next few weeks. But there's definately times I've taken a couple pills, and alcohol to help cope. There's definately a culture of heavy drinking amongst JWs that rarely gets addressed. I guess its to be expected, its the ony way to self medicate with any dignity. To even see a Psychiatrist is viewed negatively. Its really sad.

I've never heard the gluttony argument LOL. Days when mom cooks a turkey I do tend to eat more than I probably should.
Thanksgiving is one of those holidays that has a whole convoluted list of reasons why it should not be celebrated, none of which ever actually made any sense to me. Like JWoods mentioned, the pagan origin is an issue. I'd say patriotic undertones can be included as well. You'll probably get the standard, "we should be thankful everyday, not just one day of the year!" responses.

It reminds me of why gangsta rap become popular in the 90s, particulary amongst young males.
i mean something really serious that you won't forgive/forget..
Being born into this nonsense. Somedays I feel I woulda been better off aborted, or discarded to a rubber in the garbage can, or contracepted. Been a miserable existance. I love my parents, but I look at them somedays with scorn.
i bet people has forgotten me but thats ok because i know they have helped me a lot on here.. .
anyways i think the last time i been on here i mentioned my jw sister not going to my wedding.
for those that do remember my story, the wedding was beautiful on the beach in key west, fl!
I live in a city with a few universities, a couple are major universities. Every year we get a couple or few JWs from out of town. It makes for an awkward meeting when there are parts and comments with negative thoughts toward higher education. A couple times I cringed sitting in those meetings as it was offensive to those young gals from out of town in the audience. Like you guys mentioned though, there's all kind of opinions on education right now. I guess it depends on your geography regarding how "the friends" will view it. In my hall there's an unwritten law to be semi-cold or aloof towards the out of town college kids. It's almost like a townies vs students mentality that you see with neighborhoods having an influx of college students. The only difference is this time its religious in nature, and limited to congragation meetings.
