  How DID the first century Christians keep things going without the Watchtower to control every aspect of their lives and keep them in line???

  Exactly. The reality is we don't have a complete picture of the sort of lives that first century Christians led. The scriptures even indicate that much of the historical record of Jesus' life is missing. (John 21:25) With that being the case its inappropriate for the WT to make stories up about the lives of those Christians. Its even more inappropriate and downright unethical and wicked to put a figurative knife to our backs in order to ensure we nod our head in agreement to their made up stories. Then they have the audacity to quote 1 Cor 4:6 about "not going beyond what is written." They go beyond what is written every time they pressure you to pioneer, auxilliary pioneer, special pioneer, not to miss the Friday session of the District Convention, blah blah blah. We can go on and on all day about all the things the WT expects of the Flock that isn't remotely scriptural. But don't you invite a few friends over to celebrate the day of your son's birth!! Ohhh nooooo!!! There's less repurcussions over getting wasted off alcohol or viewing pornography in this organization than celebrating the birth of your child. Gotta love it!

  niether Jesus or his Appostles celebrated them despite knowing all about them.

  Jesus and His apostles didn't celebrate wedding anniversaries either. After he died, the apostles didn't have annual meetings at Beth-El. The apostles didn't have a Tuesday night book study, a Thursday night Theocratic Ministry School followed by a Service Meeting. They didn't have a public talk delivered on Sundays, followed by a WT Study. They didn't have Circuit Assemblies, District Conventions, there was no such thing as a Regular Pioneer, Auxilliary Pioneer, Special Pioneer, Circuit Overseer, District Overseer, Branch Committee, territories, publishers, turning in of field service time to the older men within the community, the enforcement of shaving causing severe razor bumps for many, wearing full suits as opposed to a blazer or sports coat with decent slacks..................we can go on and on and on........how far do you want to go with this?

  Again, if the new Flock book is any indicator, there might be slight loosening on how we view holidays in The Truth. (how do you guys to the trademark thing anyway?) What makes it particulary sickening to me is if they do loosen their views on holidays, the average Witness is too brainwashed to recognize that this is NOT new light, but it is in fact showing that those men had not a foot to stand on regarding their previous view of holidays in the first place. It wasn't new light, it wasn't truth because it had to be changed. Meaning, they were wrong about it the whole time we labeled it truth.

  i know intense pain, fear and loneliness as a direct result of the wtbts.

  i have overcome most of it in life and am happy now.

  I remember when I first read this post, and for whatever reason never posted a response. But man I feel the same sick feeling as I felt the first time reading it. My heart goes out to you Laverite. No young person, or anybody for that matter should have to go through that. I swear this organization is screwed up on so many levels. Its sick and depraved.

  Forget disfellowshipping, reinstatement is grossly unbiblical

  disfellowshipping has a "measure" of validity since in the 1st century you could be removed from the christian congregation for practicing sin.

  (but not shunned outside of worship ceremonies).. the process in which someone is accepted back into the fold in the jw policy is completely made up.

  it's funny that witnesses will poke fun at catholics for making up purgatory when they have completely pulled the reinstatement process out of their asses!.

  Okay. Needed to get that out of my system. The situation in the Corinthian congregation is often used as the basis for the concept of 'reinstatement'. But there is a glaring lack of detail in this that requires them to make up stuff.

  1. The person who saddened everyone--well, do we know who that was for sure? No. He might've been the person who committed fornication, or he might not have been. That guy may never have bothered to repent, for all we know.

  2. Confirming their love for the repentant sinner did not require a committee of elders to get a letter from him, then meet him to 'determine' if he was truly repentant, then decide what 'was already decided in heaven'.

  This goes for the prodigal son as well. The prodigal son didn't sit outside his father's house for a year, then write a letter to his father to be accepted back, then meet with the father's slaves who would then determine if his father should actually let him back in. The father saw his son from a distance, then RAN to meet him, rejoiced that he was back. How would he have known this son wasn't coming back just out of desperation and not out of true repentance? That wasn't at issue--the father accepted him as he was, broken and dejected.

  In the end, we're all like that. We could all use some fixing, and that's really the point of it all, if you're a Christian. Jesus died for sinners, not righteous people. He died so we could be accepted without hesitation by the Father.

  3. The sinner in 1 Corinthians 5 obviously had a very public situation going on. Both disfellowshipping and reinstatement processes are carried out in secret (not unlike how the Sanhedrin tried Jesus, illegally), and the only thing you know about it is what you hear in the rumor mill. Since you're trying to shame people anyway, might as well have a public trial like it's 'The Crucible' or something. (sigh)

  Wednesday...My New Yorker magazine arrives in the mail

  I need to get a subscription to the New Yorker. I used to buy it every other week. Great read. I like the Atlantic and Harpers too. Good magazines. Definately more stimulating than the WT/Awake.....
