I can't even get past the sound of it. I refuse. Maybe that's the JW side of me talking, I don't know. Watching Anthony Bourdain on No Reservations eat them, I just couldn't get past the thought of what they were. I usually love looking at what he's chomping on, and I'd love to hang out with him one day, but I have to pass on blood products. Uggk!

"You wouldn't question the creator of all things, would you?"
by sabastious inmy older brother has a 4 year old son.
he has a wild imagination and is frequently freaked the hell out at night.
so my jw brother naturally tells him that jehovah will protect him.. when this statement doesn't appease the fearful child he will use a statement along the lines of "do you question whether jehovah can protect you?".

I hate that kind of reasoning. Jonah questioned Jehovah, and Abraham debated with and questioned Jehovah over Sodom.

Its doublespeak. On one hand they claim they're being guided by God's spirit, but when they screw up royally, or alter doctrine, they either blame their readers for misreading, or call it new light. It's actually disrespectful to God, because the holy spirt is acting like a roller coaster at an amusement park. I'll give you an example of this from the latest circuit assembly.
A few years ago, the Book Study was touted as thee most important arrangement. It was relayed to us that when disaster strikes, and the Great T happens, the Book Study arrangement would serve the purpose of a mini congregation. There was heavy emphasis being placed upon this arrangement. Then out of nowhere, that arrangement went poof! Gone, with an assortment of explanations as to why. Everything from gas prices, difficult traveling due to the terrain in foreign lands, etc.. At the most recent Circuit Assembly, I heard the latest reasoning why Jehovah's Chariot changed course regarding this subject. The speaker stated it was to prepare the families for future events. Um-K. Enter the Family Worship Night. The speaker also went out of his way to state that this change had nothing to do with gas prices. I've got my own beliefs why this change happened, and I'm mostly leaning towards conductors and those commenting promoting views not sanctioned by the WT. That and poor attendance. I know some on here have mentioned the Legal Department's concerns with pedophilia, and thats a legitimate theory to take into consideration too.
My point though, is things change in this organization and the reasoning given by the leadership is insufficient. What makes it so troublesome is the very point of this thread. It's hard for me to accept that this organization is spirit directed when we're constantly being guilt tripped and our arms bended to bow to the faithful and discreet slave's will, especially when it comes to doublespeak. They remind me of Jame's thoughts in James 3 where he talked about many should not be teachers because of the responsibility that comes with that position. I can't speak on behalf of everybody, but I try to be unbiased on here when looking at the faults of the leadership in this organization, but they've stumbled the daylights out of me on more than a few occasions. The leadership wants to have it both ways, having their cake and wanting us to fork feed it to them too. On one hand they want the adulation, prestige, money, perks, free labor, and loyalty that comes with being God's chosen organization, but they don't want the bad light shown upon them when they come up with nonsensible noo lite, when their ulterior motives are exposed, or when their history is exposed. They can't have it both ways. I guess this is what happens when you take a parabel from the bible and force it to fit your needs. Its like taking a square block and forcing it through a circular hole, and then forcing the rest of us to go along with it and not say anything.

Would've been nice if I married a pioneer, at least then she'd be out of the house sometimes on the weekends! Terrible joke.
That is one positive thing about marrying a pioneer. Never looked at it that way.

OTWO, I just typed the first thing I thought after seeing her today for the first time. She is something. So she's been the crowned winner since May? Wow, where have I been?
PSAC, I guess they still ask those questions. It is all rather silly. That's partly what I mean too, in 2010 shouldn't we be past this kind of stuff? Beauty pageants as we enter 2011? I just wonder if we should be better than this.

No offence but this thread is worthless without pics !!!
;)
I purposely neglected posting any pics of her. I'm all for some eye candy, but I don't want to turn any women away from this thread. I want to hear their thoughts on this. She is fine by the way. Bad woman.

She's so fine its a sin, she's my sinsation. I didn't know they were still doing these beauty pageants. I've never found these pageant contestants all that attractive, as I prefer a round the way girl myself. Plus I like a woman with an appetite. However, this gal is something else. She's stellar.
These contests should have went the way of the dinosaur, or brick phones. 2010 is wrapping up, and Hillarly Clinton is the Secretary of State, Angela Merkel is the current German Chancellor, Oprah is loaded, Mariah Carey is the head of her household, Sarah Palin is well, Sarah Palin. Women have come a long way, and I'm happy for them. Considering the thread on women and head coverings, I wish success and happiness for all the JWN women. I realize, not all women can be painted with the same brush, at least in most respects, but what do you think of beauty contests, or these Miss USA pageants? Are they appropriate for this day and age? Are these contests demeaning?

Latest Special Talk in Australia
by jwfacts inno, i don't mean the visit by oprah.. there was a special talk on sunday relayed to all the aussie congs from sydney.
apparently the speaker had an american accent, but was stationed in a latin american country.
he was really pushing field service and pulled out the old one that: if you do not witness you are not one of jehovah's witnesses.

My Circuit Assembly was fairly recent, and as always there were talks focusing on the importance of the ministry. Nothing new there, but there was definately more urgency within the tone and material of the talks. I'm wondering if this same Special Talk was delivered at the Circuit Assembly and not mentioned as a special talk, because there's nothing on the agenda in the way of special talks anytime soon at my congregation. At the assembly, everything is special per say.
I have the notes I took during the assembly with me right now. I started to do a thread on this and the circuit assembly in general, but figured this fits in harmony with the subject of this thread. The syposium had a section regarding Babylon the Great, and the speaker went out of his way to contrast the difference between the WT and Christendom. He specifically stated that we should not let the unpopularity of the ministry deter us, and referenced 1 Tim 4:8. He also stated Babylon the Great has an improper view of the preaching work, stating that they view the door to door work as primitive in consideration of technology and media. The ironic thing about it was, either he, or the outline, or maybe both made the case that the door to door work is primitive. I say that because after dissing Christendom, he goes on to say that the door to door work is "our trademark." He acknowledged the extreme apathy, and even hostility JWs face in the ministry. However the fact that its "our trademark", is sufficient reason enough to go door to door.
Another talk that was delivered, used the "tomb of the unknown solder" as an illustration of our duty to be in field service. The speaker stated that "orders remain unchanged" regarding soldiers guarding the tomb. The speaker then stated that our orders from Jesus remain unchanged, referencing Matt 28:19, 10 and Acts 5:42. Worth mentioning, that text in Acts mentions preaching in the temple, which the speaker didn't mention. He only focused on the house to house portion of that verse.
One last thing, that shows their emphasis on the ministry, was a demo contrasting two families on any given evening. The first family was the wayward family, ya know, the bad example. The mother was attending night school for a degree, and afterwards going out for drinks with her girlfriends. The son was going over a friend's home to play the latest vampire video game. The daughter was going to a midnight shopping spree. I can't recall what the dad settled on doing for the evening. The speaker did the routine, "this family is a poor example" routine. Then they introduced another family getting prepared for the ministry on a Friday night. The kids were excited and couldn't wait to go in field service. The kids also were excited that on Sunday, they would be hosting a prominent brother and his wife for hospitality, and couldn't wait to hear the stories this pioneer couple would share with them from preaching in foreign lands. It was so unrealistic that I found it humorous.
Like I said, I don't know if the special talk delivered in the land down under, was done at all during the circuit assembly. I do know that during the assembly the emphasis being placed on field service, particulary door to door, was at steroid levels of guilt tripping.

As a woman in the truth what went through your head when you realized that us sister had to cover our heads?
by life is to short inok i was raised in the "truth" but no one ever studied with me.
my parents were abusive and i got nothing from them or anyone in the "truth" no bible study any attention nothing from anyone.. i read the great teacher book to myself at the age of seven, and when i was in my mid teens i started studying on my own with no help from anyone nor any answers my questions expect to be rebuked if i asked the wrong question so i quit asking it was god's chosen religion after all who was i to question anything.
i conducted the sort of study and this elder looked at me and said where is your head covering.

Wanted to mention, this is a very good thread. As a man I'm sometimes oblivious to how women get treated in the truth. This isn't a religion people can just air their complaints about while still in it. At times I even wallow in my own misery within this organization and forget what women have to deal with too. Tip my hat to any woman putting up with this weirdo religion.
