You sure you're Black???!!!
LOL, I'm up north Syl, we ain't eating pork tails up here. I don't mess with chitlins, pig's feet, none of that stuff. With the exception of ribs, bacon, ham, and a roast, I don't mess with swine.

I'm starving right now!! I'm going to lunch in a couple minutes, but I'm hungry. I gotta can of soup, but thats not going to cut it. I'm gonna take a breeze through town and see what I can see. I want some bbq ribs right now, fried shrimp, or fried wings.
OMG Syl, Sweet Potato Pie, ohhh what I wouldn't give for a homemade one. My dad does them occasionally in these huge baking containters, ya know the kind you'd put baked macoroni and cheese in. He'll do two of them, and give one to me, and one for him. I'd feed off of it for like two days. Eating pie for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Pork Tails? What is that?

Did you play tackle football as a good little JW?
by JRK inin my town we did.
each congregation had its own "pick up" team.
we would get together and play on a chosen sunday after the meetings.

Yes, played tackle football, got a screw in my finger holding my tendon in place to prove it! Someone always got injured when we played, usually I was the injurer not the injuree, except that one time...
Basketball was worse though, we would rent a GYM every Sunday night and have about 6 congregations participate. About 50 people were there on average. Elders, MS's were there too, they were the worse offenders! I've seen more elders and MS's in fist fights (no shit) than anyone else. The CO came through one year and shut it down. After he left it started back up again and the fights resumed.
It's crazy right!?!?? So truthful!!! I've never seen elders and servants in fights, but as far as being competative is concerned, definately they were the worst. If an elder or servant wasn't playing physical, then their teenage sons were. I think Momma-Tossed-Me has a point about pent up energy and frustration within JWs, particulary males. There's something in us as males, I guess testosterone, that makes us raw. We need to occasionally destroy something, shoot something as evidenced by the defense rounds thread, yell at something, give our wives the goods in the rawest most aggressive of ways, and I don't mean the groceries. Even at the meeting this week, I'm sitting there and agitated because I'm tired of sitting. Been sitting all day, and I'm ready to cut loose. We need sports.

Another Bad Witness - Elder School on Christmas Day?
by LostGeneration inhad a brief conversation with by jw father a few days ago, unfortunately still an uber witness and as a cboe he has nothing else in his life.. he brought out that he was getting ready for the elders school.
not sure if he was bragging or wanted sympathy for having to go.
lol.. i didn't press him on the details, though i wanted to ask if they would be covering all 7 chapters in the new manual on how to df people.

So I guess the arrogance of the WT pisses of the elders as saving money is more important than people's time. And the ignorance of the WT will come through as "worldly" people are put off seeing the upcoming cult fest.
This right here, this describes my personal feelings, and I'm 100% sure the feelings of many other elders who wouldn't dare speak it to another elder. Those rotton, filthy, dispicable men amongst the higher ups in this organization are so arrogant and haughty, and take for granted that people work for a living and have families and responsibilities. I look forward to my days off, and the last thing I want to do is spend two days going over bureaucratic nonsense. The only thing I'm really looking foward to is clarification on holidays and traditions, as it was really vague in the new Flock book. It left me under the impression that they're backing off a little bit on holidays such as Thanksgiving, although I could very well be looking too far into it. I'm also curious to see how they're going to relay increased emphasis on the no-blood policy, and the no-higher education policy. Plus I have a feeling there will be a couple other gems I'll need to keep an ear open for. I might tape it, I'm considering the thought.

This thread is bringing a tear to my eye. I miss those days. Excuse my language, but hell yeah we played tackle!! Couldn't imagine it any other way. Most of the kids and teenagers I played with were worldly. If there was a enough snow in the winter, we'd play tackle in the street. The fellow JWs when we got together, we'd play tackle in any random field we could find, and there were plenty. Hated recovering that night and the next morning afterwards. Muscle pulls, bruises, cuts. Although I don't ever recall breaking anything, we had a couple fights. But we'd always makeup later. No way any elders would ever find out about that either. We kept our mouths shut. Afterward playing football we'd go to any random one of our parent's homes to eat, and all the adult would be holding their noses cuz we stunk so bad.
We played basketball too. I had a couple JW friends that had Division 1 college potential. They've relayed to me in latter years, that this JW upbringing made them bitter that they never explored those oppurtunities. When we were younger, we'd played in tournaments sponsered by various companies. We weren't AND-1 material, but we did alright. When I was younger, there were always JWs that reserved or would rent a gym for brothers from all over the city to play, even brothers from outside the city showed up. It was beautiful. We'd be trying to impress the sisters that showed up to watch. I'm out of the loop nowadays, but I believe some still rent gyms. I miss those days, life as a JW meant a little bit more to me. It was something that back then I could see doing for the rest of my life, even if the new system appeared unrealistic or on a long term hiatus. The far majority of the JW fellas that I came up with, all gone. Every one of them. Thats a testimony to the leadership in this organization. If any of you Bethel monitors are reading this, do me a favor and relay a message to your superiors, you failed, miserably.

There's more than a few elders who are ticked off about this too.

While in, did you ever rationalize questionable behavior, entertainment, even sin as justifide?
by miseryloveselders ini'm not the biggest fan of depeche mode, but a couple of their albums were actually ok. there's one track by them i've always loved called, "strangelove" from their music for the masses album, and the lyrics remind me of my own thought process at times.
the lead vocalist sings at one point, "i give in, to sin, because you have to make this life livable.
looking back on it, i feel that i needed to watch that fight.

I just can't post what I am thinking. You just seem so sincere. Maybe someone else will say it.
You think I'm gay don't you? That hurts me, I'm joking by the way. By all means say it. If I post something on here, that means I leave myself open for critique. I'm a big boy, go ahead and say post it. Matter fact I'm offended that you refuse to post what you're thinking. I want to read your thoughts.

Sebastian Ramos and his campaing in Brazil; how can they claim a right to shun you?
by dgp ini suppose everyone on this board knows now about sebastian ramos and his campaign in brazil.
he has filed a claim agains religious discrimination, to the effect that shunning (not disfellowshipping or disassociation) is forbidden, on the grounds that it amounts to religious discrimination.. this is a very easy point to see for someone who is out.
it sort of extends the meaning of "religious discrimination", however, as it is usually understood.

I agree with Mr.Ramos and hope he keeps up the fight. Funny, I just came across this article in a Awake that is in harmony with the general sentiments in this thread and Mr.Ramos. Check this out.

BestWaytoFightIntolerance
Tolerance does not mean that everyone should have the same ideas. People might disagree with one another. Some may feel strongly that the beliefs of another person are very wrong. They may even speak publicly of their disagreements. However, as long as they do not spread lies to try to incite prejudice, this is not intolerance. Intolerance is seen when a group is persecuted, targeted by special laws, marginalized, banned, or in some other way hindered from following their beliefs. In the most extreme form of intolerance, some kill and others have to die for their beliefs.
How can intolerance be fought? It can be exposed publicly, as the apostle Paul exposed the intolerance of religious leaders of his day. (Acts 24:10-13)When possible, though, the best way to fight intolerance is to work proactively—to promote tolerance, that is, to educate people to understand others better. The UN report on the elimination of intolerance referred to earlier says: “As all forms of intolerance and discrimination based on religion or belief have their birth in the human mind, so it is at human minds that action should initially be directed.” Such education may even lead individuals to examine their own beliefs.
I read what I highlighted in the first paragraph and thought to myself, "ya don't say." The second paragraph is ironic because I feel thats what we do on here, and Mr.Ramos is taking it to another level, and he has my admiration and respect. The more people know about how jacked up the inner workings of this religion are, the better.
