  OK misery what I want to know is why people in their teens and twenties were hanging out at somebody's house for a pretend WT study. Talk about lame!

  What's funny about that to me, I was raised in this nonsense of a religion, but looking back, that's what born-ins do and hardcore younger JWs do too. I did the double life thing all throughout high school. Did some things I wish I could take back too!! But the values(if you want to call them that) that you're raised with as a JW tug at your very soul. So even though you're living a double life, you're JW side is jockeying for position too, and so when you're invited to a "get together" to do a pretend WT, you do it. Not to mention what else can JW youth do together without chaperones?

  "Hey mom, I'm going over Steve's, he just got his own place."

  "And what are you guys going to be doing??! Who's going to be there!?!? I worry about you!"

  "Oh, its nothing mom, we're going to study the WT together."

  "Ohhhh, that's good to hear, have fun!"

  Exactly, what was the movie with Jack Nicholson where he played a writer who did women's books, and one of his fans asked him how he wrote women so well? And he responded, "I take a man, and take away accountability, and reason."? That what he said? What flick was that?

  LOL, I'm sorry, you ate that right up too. I apologize.

  I know what Lady Lee is talking about, I might expose myself with this situation, but I remember being younger and going to a "gathering" if you will, and it was small affair, chips and dip, and we were all going to study WT study together. Mind you, we were all in our early 20's to late teens. This one married brother decided to play the role of WT conductor, he was a MS at the time. It was hilarious because he relished doing this. This was big time to him. He was the only one with a significant other at this shindig having a wife,, and she corrected a mistake he made during the study. Instead of him recognizing she was correct, and acknowledging and thanking her, he corrected her. Don't get me wrong, he didnt Ike Turner her or anything of that nature, but he put her in her place so to speak. Saying something to her, to the effect of, "I know honey, but I'm handling this tonight! You be quiet", maybe not in those exact words, but you get the point. It caught me completely by surprise. But its an example of how young men are groomed to "reach out" and "take the lead", and how young women are taught to play a supportive role.

  I just caught that LOL. I'm bored and slow today. Slow day at work, stuck here for another 45 minutes. Killin time.

  Just trying to have a lil fun. Dreary, rainy day. Bored at work, on a Friday, and done in 45 minutes. In all seriousness though Lady Lee I agree, I hate all the Men>Women nonsense. To take a different view of things, you women should be somewhat happified you're not males. Why? Think about it, you don't have to worry about "reaching out." You don't have to "handle the microphones", , setup the stage, you don't have to read the WT, or take the lead in field service, or do the Bible Highlights, do the accounts, be on the hospital liason committee, stay late after the meeting, or attend meetings after the meeting about meetings. You don't have to wear ties. You don't have to shave facial hair (some of you anyway, you know who you are), you don't have to worry about being asked to be an attendant at the assemblies and conventions. You don't have to ask the woman in the row with the crying bab to take the brat in the back as she's disturbing the meeting. there's more I'm missing, Minimus feel free to add on.

  To play Devil's advocate, it's probably good to have rules to keep women in line. We all know how emotional women can be, and quite frankly getting emotional is not the best way to get results. Men deal with logic and reasoning, women deal with hormones. If women could be Ministerial Servants, or Elders, nothing would ever get done because they would be too busy gossiping and having hot flashes to ever handle their assignments. Rarely do I ever request someone handle an assignment for me. If I was a woman, I'd probably always be calling someone at the last minute to handle the Highlights, or take the lead in Field Service. Why? Cause I'd be wigging out over a hot flash, or it would be that time of the month, or I'd be mad at one of the other sisters for wearing excessive makeup. So to be fair, the WTS has a point in this case.

  my personal recommendation: synecdoche, new york.

  it's one of those movies that words fail utterly to capture--which really is the hallmark of a good movie, i suppose.

  GentlyFeral, I saw Beijing Bicycle some years ago, that is a good flick. I remember thinking to myself, "all that over a frickin bike!" Thinking back to my youth though, I'd defend my bike to the bitter end too. I can't remember all the specifics to that flick, and I wanted to rent it again, but independent video stores that rent out foreign and independent films are a dying breed around here.

  Trainspotting is a favorite of mine. Lost In Translation is another one, although I think it got nominated or won an award or two, but nobody I know has ever sat down and watched it. Broken Flowers is another Bill Murray flick nobody has seen that I've conversed with.

  Does the Bible actually and specifically teach an eternal Earth paradise?

  disclaimer - i have left behind all the jw and other religious speculation on this and am now a non-religious scientific thinker on the subject.. so, for me - earth is the planet we live on.

  both earth and all of us have a finite lifetime - and it is up to us now what we do with both.. but, as a question for exjws like myself: much is made in the jw theology of an eternal "paradise" earth.

  I ran mics, did stage, handled the sound system, sometimes adjusted the microphone for myself (top that off), as I was doing highlights and the instruction talk as Ministerial Servant, and I believe one of those talks Servants weren't supposed to be doing. This thread kinda depresses me. I hate brown nosers, lap dogs, kiss azzes. Yet thats what I was doing my whole life, justifying it as I thought I was doing it for Jehovah when the reality was, I was really doing for it some old geezers in NYC, and some brainwashed geezers in my congregation whom I still have love towards. What a waste of a life. How many Tuesday nights wasted handling the microphone, sitting in the first row so I could adjust the speaker's mics promptly. Making sure to set up the demonstrations fast enough to still have time to sing the final verse in the song.

  You realize how silly it sounds looking back on it now? We were showing our dedication by running up and down the aile handing off microphones. We were idiots!! Buffoon!! Singing songs like, "Here I am send me!!" A brother whom I love dearly, just got removed from magazines, and despite the fact that its supposed to be viewed as negatively, I want to go up to him sometimes and ask how good does it feel to no longer do that nonsense?

  not a big baseball fan until playoff time, but I love Manny. True definition of swag. Last year during the playoffs I became a fan of a Jayson Werth.
