What's the best cover version of a song you've ever heard?

the title pretty much says it all.. it's true that there are many classics that simply can't be topped but it doesn't stop people from trying anyway.

Good thread. The Cramps had a song called The Most Exalted Potentate of Love. I couldn't find a studio version of it, and the live versions sucked on You-Tube. At any rate, Queens of the Stone Age covered it. Love this tune.

I was discussing this briefly with Garyneal a week or so ago. Its always been said that the victors write history. If Joe Blow Israelite did what David did, they would have stoned him in front of everybody. David was like the Israelite version of O.J. minus the white Bronco. Granted one might say David suffered the rest of his life watching his family act like a soap opera from hell. His son trying to kill him, his lovechild dying, his right hand man betraying him, etc.. That had to have been stressful for him. At the same time though, gangsters and powerful wicked men throughout history have went through similar situations, and there are no holy books labeling them as being righteous. Thats what leaves me bewildered to some degree.

jw serving elders ... did any of you have to handle the part at the sm this week on why jehovah's witnesses are not a false prophet?.

this part made me livid.

our most corporate elder handled this part and i felt my self wanting to refute everything he said.

Going back to that part being kind of strange for a Service Meeting part, let me ask you fellas a question. Have you ever been hit with a question like that in field service? I can't recall ever being hit with something like that. I mean I've been hit with doctrinal questions that hit grey areas. I've heard cult accusations. Been threatened. But never, has anybody raised an issue about JWs being false prophets. Its quite strange now that I'm at home and thinking about it all. What generated this part?

Do you love or hate to cook?

just a quick poll if you will.... i personally hate to cook.

it's not that i'm particularly bad at it, i just don't have a whole lot of patience or motivation to do it.

i suppose it has something to do with my having to live alone?

I like to cook at times. I was gonna bake cookies tonight after IsaacAustin got me that old recipe from the Awake. I'm just kinda tired. I like cooking and baking, but I'd much rather find a wife who'll do it for me.

Elders (Current and Former), JCs and Qs

i'm thinking of sweetbabycheezits and his wife right now...started wondering about not only their situation but also related situations.

then i started thinking about our esteemed elders on this board.. you gotta wonder, at these jcs for "apostasy," if any of the elders that sit in judgement have concerns/questions about the borg of their own.

did any of our current or former elders on here ever have some uncomfortable situations on jcs where you were dfing someone for "apostasy" yet you knew the brother or sister was actually 100% correct?

Thank Jah, no i have not ever had to sit on a judicial case based on the A... now...knowing what I know... I would recuse myself on some made up grounds.. I couldn't sit on it under any circumstances

Me neither. I wouldn't do it. My conscience would get the best of me on that. I still struggle with a measure of guilt every time I click the submit tab on this forum. To sit in on an apostacy case with the potential to ruin someone's life, knowing what I know, and posting on here...........I'd rather die. I just couldn't live with myself after doing something like that. I mean that, I'd rather die. Another thread dealt with a similar theme along the lines of being a company man yet being an undercover apostate too. Several including myself mentioned that there's limits to the amount of hypocrisy you can openly display in the name of spiritual subterfuge, for lack of a better term. We've got families we're trying to salvage too. Some of us agree with many things in WT land. At the same time, there's limits to what we'll support, and if push came to shove on a judicial case of apostacy, I'd personally have to excuse myself. I just couldn't do that. I'd have the self esteem of Judas Iscariot if I took part in something like that.

Lets see...............

8:46am- should be getting out of the shower, drying off

8:50am- scrambling for the least wrinkled pair of dockers, least wrinkled shirt, least non smelling undershirt and underwear

9:00am- tossing random WT and Awake magazines in leather bag, hoping I have tracts under the passenger seat

9:05- running out the door, tying tie simultanously, tripping over untied Clarks shoe

9:10- gunning it down the avenue, praying the police don't pull me over for speeding, while reading the Daily Text to see if its related to field service

9:15- meeting the group for field service

9:20- debating whether the weather is friendly enough for door to door activity

9:25- assistant does concluding prayer, figuring out how we're going to divide car groups

9:30- putting folding chairs back, and heading out the door

9:45-11:30am- on our way to territory for nonstop door to door activity sharing the good news!

I don't think I'll be able to accomplish the moment of silence, unless............. my alarm doesn't go off for some reason tommorrow
