things are what they are.. everything acts according to its nature.. nothing escapes its own nature.. we cannot be other than what we are and our "choices" follow our nature.. consequently, can we not say correctly that free choice is merely our ignorance of the fact that all our actions and choices are predetermined by our nature?.
1. if you are offered either a handful of dog poop or a cold dove bar---is your "choice" really much of a choice?
2. offer a heterosexual male a night with a hot chick or a hot dude...is the outcome really "choice"?
Nothing more to say on the matter

not sure if there was a thread like this before, but.... there are times that certain books touch us in our spirtual lives, sometimes in an emotional way, other times in a theocratical way.. the shack by william young touched me deeply and renewed my faith in jesus and god.. in search of christain freedom and crisis of conscience by raymond franz, made me aware that the issues i laways had with organized religion were not just mine.. question of consceince by charles davis, showed me the the issues that mr.franz faced in the wt were faced by other in the rcc far earlier and made me understand that we must truly server christ and not any man-made organization.. the jesus i never knew by philip yancey, which i read after the shack motivate dme to read the nt with new eyes.. the nrsv of the nt with greek interlinear, one of the best study interlinears i have.. the oxford bible commentary, a must for any student of the bible.. .
Easy to pick up, but hard to put down

some posters seem to have the art of diplomacy-.
i re-read my previouse posts and felt i was less than diplomatic with terry-(i do admire his ability to reply without offence).
so do you need to be a tough minded, and insensitive to survive on discussion boards?.
I wish I could change my heading from "How do you survive on this site?" To "How do you(positivly) contribute on this site?

minimus got me thinking with his thread about whether or not you know anyone that committed suicide.
i think it might be interesting to see what the opinions are.. what do you think?.
are there cases where it is understandable?
Actually I believe the word FREEDOOM came from the early Christians. They could be FREE if they denounced their faith. Or DOOMED if they chose to be thrown to the lions.
I was also told once the lyrics from the T.V series "Mash".... suicide is painless It brings on many changes, and you can take or leave it as you please" was written by a 14 year old boy.
As to the question do I feal suicide is wrong. Iam always aware how easy it is to be the perpertrater who brings a person to suicide. So Iam glad I never had the responsibility of being an elder. Also thats why I refrain from helping some witnesses see my new understanding of their faith.

i would value your opinions on how best to handle a dilema i have with a rental contract i signed.. 1-a year ago i agreed to let out a property i owned to a tennent.
i spoke to the council and they said i was responsible for the water and sewage and so i areed to pay it.
(would i failed to understand that it was my responsibility to pay the council but i was entiltled to ask the tennent tp pay me these monies.. 2-i also failed to take into consideration the basement , landing and hallways in working out the rent which is based on the kvm size of the house.. therefore on point 2 alone he is paying me 25% less a month than the correct monthly rental-.
Hi undertheradar
The end of the lease is 3 months notice by either party.
Iam however aware that the tennents are very happy and want to be their till death (Maybe 20-30years)
My predicament is Iam not prepard to have this contract run for another 20 years on this arrangement.
Iam prerard to continue with the rental we agreed. But I think it fair the tennent pay for the water and garbage collection.

By problem is legally I can give him notice and terminate the contract. Morally I was aware he and his family wanted to live in the house for many years. Now Iam thinking of writting to him and explaining the situation saying Iam happy to keep the monthly rental as agreed but I think it only fair he pays the water and sewage charges-
Do you think this is reasonable behaviour on my part.?
What would you do in my circumstances?

i was recently doing some personal reading when i came across this qote from an unnamed jewish rabbi, "there are times when we have questions we cannot answer, and the ultimate test of our faith is to believe that there is an answer, even though we could never fathom what it might be".. i have been very content the last few years just recovering from the cult and have not been looking for something to replace it.
the biggest reason i left was the fact that the jw's got so many initial beliefs incorrect, including the three "generation changes inthe last 20 years".
not knowing an answe to an question that could only be answered with speculation was not an issue for me.. this quote, whether you put stock in it or not, initiated me revisiting what beliefs i may or may not have.
Hi treadnh20
An interesting thought from the Rabi. Personally I believe there is an answer for everything. The only problem is we cannot fathom the question.
